With some of the attitudes expressed on this thread, I can see why one of my co-workers vows that she will never divorce again. Says if she can't take being married anymore she'll kill her husband...that murderers are forgiven more easily by some Christians than divorcees are.
God forgives divorce when it is truly repented of and every effort is made to restore the marriage, but those who choose to subsequently marry another spouse while their first spouse is still alive commit adultery. If they continue to have sex with their second spouse subsequent to the consummation of the marriage, they are continuing to commit adultery. Under the Old Testament Law, both adultery and murder are capital crimes. A woman who killed her husband would not have the opportunity to marry another spouse because she would be put to death before she had that opportunity.

When the disciples of Jesus heard His teaching on marriage and divorce, they found the teaching to be so strict and severe that they replied,

Matt. 19:10. The disciples *said to Him, "If the relationship of the man with his wife is like this, it is better not to marry." (NASB, 1995)

And notice the asterisk, an indication in the NASB that the Greek tense here is the historical present tense, a tense used for emphasis and to indicate that the attitude expressed was not something that the disciples quickly got over, but an attitude that stayed with them.

Modernist, licentious teachings that tickle the ear are teachings from hell.

</font>[/QUOTE]Since when was a radically unbiblical point a "Great point?"

Beginning in Genesis 28, we find many examples of God hearing vows made by unbelievers.

20. Then Jacob made a vow, saying, "If God will be with me, and keep me in this way that I am going, and give me bread to eat and clothing to put on,
21. "so that I come back to my father's house in peace, then the Lord shall be my God.
22. "And this stone which I have set as a pillar shall be God's house, and of all that You give me I will surely give a tenth to You.'' Gen. 28:20-2, NKJV.

13. `I am the God of Bethel, where you anointed the pillar and where you made a vow to Me. Now arise, get out of this land, and return to the land of your family.' '' Gen. 31:13, NKJV.

Anyone who teaches that marriages made before being saved don’t count needs to read the Old Testament and read about all the marriages of non-Christians that did count. In the Bible, marriage IS marriage and it IS A LIFETIME COMMTMENT!
