I agree...but I also know something had to be done about Iran.
My big question about the decision to attack Iran again comes down to the following:
We bombed the three nuclear facilities where uranium was being enriched in June 2025. Following that mission, Trump stated those sites were obliterated and it would be "years and years before they will be able to enrich uranium again."
Eight months later in February 2025, Trump attacks Iran again claiming Iran was two weeks away from having a nuclear bomb and a month away of using it against Israel. He claimed the nuclear attack would wipe out Israel and most of the Middle East.
Which of those was the lie? They both can't be true. Perhaps neither was true.
Jumping from natural uranium to 20% takes massive effort; going from 20% to 60% takes less; and jumping from 60% to 90% requires the least amount of effort and time. Once they reached the 60%, they easily could have gone to 90% easily, but instead they kept enriching uranium at 60% for four years. Why?
They had no intention of making a nuclear weapon. I say that because they could have made one three years ago. They continued the enrichment at 60% and stockpile it to use as a massive bargaining chip. After the United States unilaterally withdrew from the
Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action in 2018, Iran incrementally violated the deal's limits to pressure Western nations into lifting economic sanctions.
For the sake of debate, let's say Iran did develop a nuclear missile and launched it at Tel Aviv. The impact on Tel Aviv would pretty much the same as it was for Hiroshima and Nagasaki. However, most winds in Israel blow to the east from the Mediterranean. The biggest threat to the West Bank would be radioactive fallout. Ramallah, and potentially Jerusalem and Hebron would be blanketed in radioactive material within hours, causing severe radiation sickness, long-term cancers, and rendering large swaths of agricultural land unusable. That radio fallout would also carry into Jordan.
A nuclear detonation generates a massive electromagnetic pulse. Depending on the altitude of the blast, an EMP could instantly fry the electrical grids, cellular networks, internet infrastructure, and medical equipment across the entire region, plunging Gaza and the rest of Israel into total electronic darkness.
What I have described is only part of the overall devastation.
Nuclear doctrine dictates that a strike on Tel Aviv would trigger Israel’s automatic, massive retaliation ("The Samson Option") before its systems could be fully destroyed. Because Lebanese groups like Hezbollah operate as Iranian proxies, Israel’s retaliatory doctrine would likely treat Lebanon as an active co-belligerent. Southern Lebanon and Beirut would likely face immediate, catastrophic conventional or nuclear counter-strikes by the Israeli military.
International defense trackers estimate Israel has up to 90 nuclear weapons. They would retaliate by launching what is available at Tehran (est. population 8.7 million), Mashhad (4.2 million), Isfahan (2.5 million), Karaj (2.1 million).
This is why Iran never intended to develop a nuclear weapon.
