I don't know of any "Christians" in the true sense of the word, who celebrate Ash Wednesday; Catholics, yes; Christians, no.
There are Baptist churches that celebrate Ash Wednesday.
Does that disqualify them as Christians?

True, I think I remember Tiny Tim mentioning this once. I'll have to send him a Gospel tract :laugh:There are Baptist churches that celebrate Ash Wednesday.

Sad to say, but some Baptists have chosen to follow in the footsteps of the Catholic Church. Lent has entered the door, as well as a Friday crucifixion, which began a good number of years ago. Some have boarded a horse whose track gets mudder, and mudder.I don't know of any "Christians" in the true sense of the word, who celebrate Ash Wednesday; Catholics, yes; Christians, no.

Yea, some people go so far as to actually have a beer or a glass of wine every now an again.....FOR SHAME!

Some Catholics are Christians, by the way.
And my church, an evangelical church, celebrates it.
When I was at Wheaton, many grad students celebrated it.
Check it out. It's all over the place.
It's called the liturgical calendar. Christians of all denominations have been following it for years. Check it out.

Jaigner....dont think they know what that is, incredibly.....wonder is doxology would be pushing the envelope? Hmmm
It is not UN-BIBLICAL to celebrate Lent. I do not observe it myself
And why not? It is God that provides, and gives to us the Bread, and the Wine.Yea, some people go so far as to actually have a beer or a glass of wine every now an again.....FOR SHAME!
Thanks for your input. Not all Baptist churches follow this practice. This observance I know can trace back to the 1st Century, but 40 is a number for Israel, the apostolic church. What has this to do with the Christian church in Antioch? Can we find in the Bible any reference to 40 days applying to Gentiles, or for that matter any Holy Days? It's called the liturgical calendar. I keep hearing about the "true meaning" of Christmas. Being a man-made holiday...what "true meaning", and where are we told to celebrate it and how in Scripture? We celebrate Thanksgiving (another man-made holiday), if one person has a home cooked meal and another goes out to eat, one watches football, one walks along the beach...which one is violating this unwritten "true meaning" of the man-made holiday?
There is 1 in 365 chance Dec. 25 is even Christ's birthday, and it most likely is not.
