There is a series of disks we rented from Netflix called Body Story. One had to do with the mechanics of the brain. It demonstrated how alcohol impairsthe brain, even the slightest amount of alcohol such as only 1/2 glass of wine. They showed this guy dancing with this woman before and after wine consumption. He drank only 1/2 glass of wine and the wording was "Watch (forgot his name) the carnal desires take over his body" There was a subtle difference in his dancing with a lady before and after the wine. Just enough alcohol to drop his inhibitions, and provide him with courage he didn't have before to really enjoy himself (let loose).

This movie is from England. The alcohol inhibits receptors in the brain which affect the area's responsible for pleasure. It takes only a tiny amount of alcohol to breaks down our body's natural defenses which protect us from becoming too carnal, or too relaxed.
Some people are allergic to alcohol and others fall asleep with half a glass of wine. They definitely should avoid alcohol because of the impact it has on their body unless the sleepers are using it to fall asleep.

Yes, alcohol lowers inhibitions to allow people to do what they want to do but are too shy to. That could be something carnal if one wants to do carnal things.

Just to clarify, I'm for moderate drinking. I don't think you, me or anybody alive today is the authority on the subject. You choose to not drink, I won't care. If I have a glass of wine, extend me the same courtesy.

Col 2:16 Therefore no one is to act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day--

Joe, Supranette and StandingfirminChrist;

You are the Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego of the modern church. While the rest are bowing to the alter of booze and smokes you are willing to go through the fire.
May the forth man always be with you.

Wine=Juice of the vine, while Not associated with an Alcoholic drink, as it is fermented it is referred to as Strong Drink and to be avoided as a beverage.

FTR, after reading every post in the thread (Why do I seem to think I've read several of them before a dozen times already, when this is the first day I even looked at this thread?) :confused:, I am pretty sure that Sopranette, StandingfirminChrist, and Joe are not all saying exactly the same thing, for the benefit of Palatka51, here.

Either that, or he and I are reading in two different threads, where I'm missing some posts he is reading, one or the other.

Context Joe. Pregnant mothers shouldn't drink. Your using a medical syndrome as a "blanket" statement for all alcohol use. All alcohol use is not abuse.
Here we go round the mulberry bush
The mulberry bush, the mulberry bush
Here we go round the mulberry bush
So early in the morning

This is the way we wash our clothes
Wash our clothes, wash our clothes
This is the way we wash our clothes
So early Monday morning

This is the way we iron our clothes
Iron our clothes, iron our clothes
This is the way we iron our clothes
So early Tuesday morning

This is the way we mend our clothes
Mend our clothes, mend our clothes
This is the way we mend our clothes
So early Wednesday morning

This is the way we sweep the floor
Sweep the floor, sweep the floor
This is the way we sweep the floor
So early Thursday morning

This is the way we scrub the floor
Scrub the floor, scrub the floor
This is the way we scrub the floor
So early Friday morning

This is the way we bake our bread
Bake our bread, bake our bread
This is the way we bake our bread
So early Saturday morning

This is the way we go to church
Go to church, go to church
This is the way we go to church
So early Sunday morning

Thought I would throw that little tune in there. I have no idea why. :laugh:

I think one of the stranger things about Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) is that it doesn't happen more often. It is not uncommon for alcoholic pregnant women who drink large amounts during pregnancy to give birth to kids without FAS or any other alcohol related developmental problems.

In medicine, a systematic review is considered the highest level scientific evidence. [SIZE=-1]The Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health published a systematic review that found no consistent evidence that prenatal binge drinking has any serious effects on the fetus. Link (journal abstract) Link2 (news article)

My wife didn't touch alcohol while she was pregnant and I would recomend all pregnant women to avoid it. But I wouldn't freak if they had a drink or two somewhere during their pregnancy.

When you drink alcohol, it rapidly reaches your baby through your bloodstream and across the placenta. This is fact.
Some degree of alcohol related damage will occur, though modern science has not yet created a way to measure it.
This is a growing fetus, which is still developing. An innocent little fetus growing into one of us. How wonderful! Let's treat God's blessings as just that!

Drinking Alcohol During Pregnancy

Drinking alcohol during pregnancy can cause physical and mental birth defects. Each year, up to 40,000 babies are born with some degree of alcohol-related damage (1, 2). Although many women are aware that heavy drinking during pregnancy can cause birth defects, many do not realize that moderate—or even light—drinking also may harm the fetus.

Potential Problems
For those who might think drinking during pregnancy is no big deal, here is a list of the potential problems their newborns could be facing as a result, according to Missouri Department of Mental Health, Division of Alcohol and Drug Abuse:

* Small body size and weight
* Slower than normal development and failure to "catch up."
* Deformed ribs and sternum
* Curved spine and hip dislocations
* Bent, fused, webbed, or missing fingers or toes
* Limited movement of joints
* Small head
* Facial abnormalities
* Small eye openings
* Skin webbing between eyes and base of nose
* Drooping eyelids
* Nearsightedness
* Failure of eyes to move in same direction
* Short upturned nose
* Sunken nasal bridge
* Flat or absent groove between nose and upper lip
* Thin upper lip
* Opening in roof of mouth
* Small jaw
* Low-set or poorly formed ears
* Organ deformities
* Heart defects or heart murmurs
* Genital malformations
* Kidney and urinary defects
* Central nervous system handicaps
* Small brain
* Faulty arrangement of brain cells and connective tissue
* Mental retardation -- occasionally severe
* Learning disabilities
* Short attention span
* Irritability in infancy
* Hyperactivity in childhood
* Poor body, hand, and finger coordination
No, it's not a pretty picture, but it is not intended to be. It's very serious. These effects are not temporary; they can cause a lifetime of physical and emotional pain --not to mention expense. FAS is a large price to pay for a few drinks during pregnancy.If you are pregnant, don't take a chance with your baby's future; stop drinking immediately. If you have tried to stop and find that you just cannot seem to give it up, help and support are available.

2 Timothy 3:1-5 ESV But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. (2) For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, (3) heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, (4) treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, (5) having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people
