The KJVO myth is the belief that the KJV is the only valid English Bible version, & that it's perfect. Both those premises are false.
Where do you get that Cain and Able were twins? The KJV teaches that Eve was created by God from the sleeping body of Adam and then given to him as his wife and through whom Cain and Abel (twins) were born to him and later Seth, after that sons and daughters. Not all Bibles teach that. You should discard those as soon as possible.

Where is your scriptural proof that Cain and Abel were twins? I don't find that anywhere. The KJV teaches that Eve was created by God from the sleeping body of Adam and then given to him as his wife and through whom Cain and Abel (twins) were born to him and later Seth, after that sons and daughters. How they were born. Genesis 4:1-2, "And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD. And she again bare his brother Abel. . . ."Where is your scriptural proof that Cain and Abel were twins? I don't find that anywhere.
This is a very mature and wise answer. Using the word mature does not mean that I think the poster is old.Choose a reputable Bible. Read it. In peace. Obey it. Meditate on it. Memorize portions. And study it.
I read the ESV and NIV. Maybe in 2024, I'll choose another.
You said that you "grew up" on the NIV. Well, then you said you didn't read it. To me, you didn't grow up on it at all.
I did grow up on the King James, and actually read it. I don't read it anymore since teaching the Bible. It's not that I don't appreciate and admire the King James - because I do.
I just prefer something to use for teaching purposes that has a closer reading to modern English.
You will get answers here that are LOOOONG and cumbersome. You will get answers that attempt to "prove" one Bible is superior to the rest.
I would just heed my advice in my first sentence.
Alan, this is a gross misrepresentation of modern translators. Wayne Grudem led the ESV translation. I just read his 1100 page Systematic Theology in 4 months, and he absolutely opposes the garbage you accuse him of. He absolutely believes in the Full Deity of Jesus Christ. You are embarrassing. For the sake of honesty, I would not consider changing from the KJV, to any of the 'modern bibles', unless you are also inclined to change your religion to that which they espouse.
All of the changes that have been made in the 'modern bibles' which diminish and counter the teachings of Jesus' Divinity do so for one reason; their translators and writers didn't believe in the Deity of Jesus Christ, so they took out what they wanted to define Jesus as a man and not God.
They just changed the 'bible' from that representing Christianity, to another religion. Gnosticism, if you like, or Anti-Christ Occultism.
That would be OK. I AM 62!!This is a very mature and wise answer. Using the word mature does not mean that I think the poster is old.

What's that got to do with the KJVO myth ? And the KJV's Genesis 4:1-2 does NOT say Cain & Abel were twins. The KJV teaches that Eve was created by God from the sleeping body of Adam and then given to him as his wife and through whom Cain and Abel (twins) were born to him and later Seth, after that sons and daughters. Phew, safe at home. I'm 60.That would be OK. I AM 62!!
Has nothing to do with KJV. Has to do with understanding the Hebrew as translated into our English. What's that got to do with the KJVO myth ? And the KJV's Genesis 4:1-2 does NOT say Cain & Abel were twins.
She there conceived once and bore twice per the simple reading of the text.

He absolutely believes in the Full Deity of Jesus Christ.
The ESV is no friend of the Lord Jesus Christ
as it contains many verses which have been chopped up by the Gnostics.
If Jesus used multiple lines or used the Greek then it suggests to me that maybe all the versions available today are also fine to use and that God's message is in all of them.
What's that got to do with the KJVO myth ? And the KJV's Genesis 4:1-2 does NOT say Cain & Abel were twins.
"The King James Version was translated
from the MAJORITY Greek Text
which agrees with about 95% of all available manuscripts.
"The MAJORITY Greek Text can be traced back
to the Peshitta (Syriac Version) about 150 A.D."
This article takes 50 verses and shows how corrupt it really is
and that it is no better than the others
