Why do you find this funny ? Is half a million dead OK with you ?

And since this thread is about Clinton, your admonishment is a little silly. I'm not the one who brought him up, in this thread, am I ?

I await yer next attempt at debate. But I'm starting to think you are a fairly uninformed opponent.

Not sure you are right there, but let's say you are. Clinton is not responsible for the deaths of so many Americans nor for the ruined lives of thousands more that have had their lives saved, but quality of life destroyed by terrible wounds.
I've posted it up enough to assume you remain willfully ignorant. I'd rather just see you blame Bush than engage with you, anymore.

I wrote that post only because so many as screaming about experience. Well smarts comes into play also and being 5th from the bottom may indicate a number of things, such as:

Not smart
Not interested
Immaturity
More interesting in playing than studying
etc., etc.
Sure, but we should also ask "fifth from the bottom of what?" Fifth fo the bottom at Annapolis is a far cry from being fifth from the bottom at some other college. So we need to compare apples to apples. It may indicate a lot of things, like being youthful.

This argument is a red herring.

I know that several posters (myself included) have pointed out red herring arguments in threads here in the Politics Forum. I am glad that you have learned the term. Now you need to learn its definition in order to use it properly to invalidate your opponent's argument.

A red herring type argument is:

Introducing an irrelevant or secondary subject and thereby diverting attention from the main subject. Usually the red herring is an issue about which people have strong opinions, so that no one notices how their attention is being diverted. In a discussion of the relative safety of different makes of car, for instance, the issue of which cars are made domestically and which are imported is a red herring (Anthony Weston, A Rulebook for Arguments, 2nd ed., 87).

In a debate where the subject is whether or not BHO is ready to be President talking about his experience (one of the primary things that makes one ready for the task) is most certainly not a red herring.:tonofbricks:

I appreciate you response. But I think it is a red herring. Lincoln has little experience and was criticized on this during the campaign with Douglas. I do not believe his 'lack of experience' meant he was not fit to be president. In the same light there are those who have had lots of experience, but did not make good presidents, i.e. Harding and Hoover are two examples.

Then is it important that McCain finished 5th from the bottom of his gradutating class at the Naval Academy and was proud of that. His real goal was to be the goat, the last one making the grade. Well known story in Annapolis.

This is a red herring argument. It does not seek to address whether or not BHO is ready to be President (the subject of this thread); rather, it seeks to divert attention from BHO and focus it on some irrelevant (to this discussion/subject) bit of information about John McCain.

I think President Clinton let everyone know that he supports Obama for President!

Gee, I'm shocked! A former D president who didn't inhale something or "have sex with that woman" opts for the D candidate? You're kidding!

These are good points to introduce in making your argument in favor of BHO. They address the subject of the discussion. However, you are in error when you try to invalidate the discussion out right by inapproprately calling it (the entire discussion) a red herring. Go back and re-read the definiton of a red herring that I provided.

He is our greatest modern-day president.

Care to back this assertion up with evidence and sources? Otherwise, it is simply your opinion and as you know, everybody's got one of those....

He's a criminal, a liar, and is responsible for more Iraqi deaths than the current criminal, and liar.

You forgot to include the fact that he was impeached.

Presidents Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton were impeached by the U.S. House of Representatives, but acquitted by the Senate. Richard Nixon resigned before he could be impeached. Source: http://www.infoplease.com/spot/impeach.html

But this is all off topic stuff....

He also only got into the Naval Academy because of his father. I thought that conservatives applauded merit not favoritism.

I wonder if Senator Obama had been shot down and had been a prisoner of war if you anti-Obama folks would be praising his sterling military record. Personally, I doubt it. I hope I would be wrong but I don't think that I am.

Personally, I applaud John McCain's service to our nation and what he went through in Vietnam. It is sad that the rest of his life - such as his adultery and his crude, mean jokes - has not lived up to the honor he showed in serving our nation in Vietnam.

Another red herring...

This thread is about whether or not BHO is ready to be President. This thread is not about John McCain, his ranking at the Naval Academy, his military service, etc. If you wish to discuss these things please feel free to open another thread on those topics. If you can not post something that supports why BHO is ready to be President then please don't try to post off subject material just to drive this discussion off topic.

A fantastic speech by President Clinton tonight. The Democrats are now on a roll against the Republicans. It's about time. Let's take our country back from George W. Bush and John S. McCain III and their favoritism toward the wealthy.
And Ken reverses course yet again

Actually, I thought giving a boost to the Bob Barr campaign for a bit worked out rather well. He may siphon enough votes from Senator McCain to put Georgia and Montana into play for Senator Obama. :)

Nah. Montana is gone isn't it?

TN Gov Bredesen has publicly told Obama not to even bother coming to TN and wasting his time and money.

Stand up and take a bow, I noticed no one acknowledged your great post so I thought I would...

Obama has exactly the same amount of experience as Abraham Lincoln had when he took office... Two terms in the state Senate and first term in the US Senate.

Perhaps it isn't experience that prepares one for this office since no one running has experience as president.

Not so fast. You must have missed my post #48 on page 5 of this thread.

I quoted the same material from Crabby that you just quoted and said:
