Is the current run of racism a sign of a deeper problem in America, or is it just two older Americans speaking their true minds on the way they were brought up in their youth?

My aunt, now passed, was extremely racist. She was brought up in the upper class area of Detroit [before the city fell on hard times], and went on to live in Gross Pointe. She was bigoted and extremely vocal, and when she'd come to California with my uncle, for their yearly vacation in the sun, as a kid I'd be embarrassed to go out with the family [in the public] as she was extremely vocal about blacks!

As I look at Bundy and Sterling, I have to wonder if their slant on black America is just something that was part of their day and age, and dying out with this older generation of Americans?

why should anyone, in a country where freedom of speech is supposedly a prized possession, be fined for speaking out his misery and bias ?
so Sterling doesn't like blacks, kept that mostly to himself for most of his life, and then was caught in a slip of his tongue.
fine.
he's racist, and he's had blacks in his racist bag without them knowing it.
as long as he doesn't mass murder them, let him wallow in his stupid misery.
as for Bundy, I don't think he's racist at all, considering that the ever liberal media was caught editing their clips to portray him as racist.
I think he's just unable to express what he really means because he's better working with his hands than expressing his thoughts.
as for racism being mostly to whites, and to young generations, I beg to disagree.

Bundy's not a racist. He's just from a different generation when words were just words and the words he used were deemed "offensive" by the PC police.

Now that the whole statement has come out and not just the small, out of context, snippet we were shown originally, it's clear that his statement was one of concern for the plight of blacks in America, not one of racism or superiority.

What's more racist? Somebody who expresses concern for the plight of blacks in America? Or someone who supports social and economic policies that have led to that plight?

as for racism being mostly to whites, and to young generations, I beg to disagree.

Me too. Blacks are the biggest racists on the planet and they're hypocrites, too, because they hide behind the pretense of victimhood while practicing their racism.

JDF, I know Bundy is from a different time, but nonetheless, those were offensive, racist words. Wondering aloud if the black man wasn't better off a slave? Sorry, that's not acceptable, anywhere.

That said, it's obvious his words were used to discredit the cause around him, and that's unfortunate. What PC Police fail to grasp is that he still has the right to say the words, regardless of how offensive and racist they may be. And his opinions on race relations have no bearing whatsoever on the issue facing him and the 54 other ranchers the government drove out of business with their illegal claims on the land in Utah.

Sterling's either senile, or an idiot. Either way, somebody needs to stuff a hankie in his mouth anytime he gets near a microphone, even if he doesn't know it's there. The irony: The girlfriend who secretly recorded his remarks is black and Hispanic -- and 38 years old to his 80. Not to mention, Sterling is married. Guessing the relationship is over. Which one I'm talking about is up to you.

One the realities of our free market, free society is that the government may not coherce anyone or penalize someone for their free exercise of speech (within certian limits.)

What is going to happen with Mr Sterling will not be the product of any government action but that of the private enterprise which he is part of and has agreed to submit to their regulations.

Between the two, I'm utterly stunned this kind if mindset still exists and am sad that Christian leaders aren't speaking out about it in larger voices. Neither man represents a Christ-like viewpoint.

We do need to let the process work itself out with Mr Sterling, because there are some issues with the nature of the recording and why it was recorded. However, if I were playing for his basketball team, I would not have taken the court last night. If I were a ticket holder for his team, I would not attend anymore games. His repugnant lifestyle choices aside, I find nothing worth supporting in this man and will pray for his salvation.

That said, this thread will be an interesting one to see how it works itself out.

Bundy is not a racist and it has been a complete overreaction to his words based on an edited video.

The man doesn't want Blacks at his games. The majority of the league is Black. The NBA would have to be CRAZY to excuse this as a slip of the tongue ESPECIALLY during the playoffs. This is already a PR nightmare. There's no need for the NBA to make it worse by offering any excuse for his comments.

Remove him from ownership or you run the risk of the entire league falling apart.

Frankly, you don't know what Bundy is. And he's from the same generation in which it were commonplace to to discriminate against and demean Blacks. Add that on top of the fact that he is a Mormon brought up in an era and church when Blacks were openly discriminated against well into the late 70s, then he might just have some racist tendencies.

Now that the whole statement has come out and not just the small, out of context, snippet we were shown originally, it's clear that his statement was one of concern for the plight of blacks in America, not one of racism or superiority.

More foolishness

Nothing to do with the OP.

Looks like the corporate media has done it'd job once again.

It's moved the debate from outrageous government tyranny and criminality to "racism" once again.

It's bizarre how easily manipulated some of you are. What makes it even more bizarre is that you know it's the media's job to manipulate you.

Evidently some of you just enjoy being manipulated.

Exactly

I don't the mindset has ever really gone away. It's just gone "undercover" per se.

We do need to let the process work itself out with Mr Sterling, because there are some issues with the nature of the recording and why it was recorded.

I agree. But regardless of why it was recorded, he fully expressed his feelings and no one forced him to say what he said. That's what the league will look at. When the league is stressing how inclusive it is and is all for an out gay man to play, they aren't hardly gonna let the players or the folks who watch and attend the games think that they are okay with a man owning a team and not wanting Blacks there.

This is one of those times where the behavior actually does seem to measure up to racism because, IMO, he comes across as thinking he's better than Blacks because of his skin color. WHich again is weird because he's "dating" a lady who is half Black.

However, if I were playing for his basketball team, I would not have taken the court last night. If I were a ticket holder for his team, I would not attend anymore games. His repugnant lifestyle choices aside, I find nothing worth supporting in this man and will pray for his salvation.

AMEN! And maybe it's just a handfull of folks like me. But if this were as serious as folks are making it sound, there's no way, playoffs or not, would I as a player have put that uniform back on as long as this man was still the owner.

I'll state again, that based upon what he was taped saying, he comes across as a racist. I don't know how there can be any manipulation of the stuff he said as specific as he was.

The girlfriend could have been trying to entrap him or something. But that's still irrelevant to what he said. He's just been exposed for who he is. And based upon what we have heard, I personally don't think any player, White or Black, should suit up for that team again as long as he is the owner.

So, let me get this straight: I can't say that I believe a video is not racist because I don't know the man, personally, but you feel free to tell us that he must be a racist because he grew up in an era of racism?

That's the most idiotic thing I've seen anybody say here since SaturnNeptune left.

No, but it was a direct response to the poster I was talking to.

I'll state it again for your benefit Zaac. The media's job is to manipulate you.

The real story in all this is that the government has once again shown how tyrannical and criminal it has become.

You think that by keeping the "race card" going like you and RD2 are doing here you're helping to right a wrong?

No, you two are playing right into the corrupt government's hand by adding more fuel to the fire. Racism isn't going to go away precisely because guys like you keep shoving in people's faces all time. You and RD2 should be getting paid by the establishment's professional race baiters for doing their work for them.

And as far as what some sports figure says who cares anyway? Christ is supposed to be our role model not some sweaty guy bouncing a ball around.

The most idiotic thing in the world is your continued penchant for not reading. I clearly said you don't know what he is and that he MIGHT be a racist

A man wouldn't have made such a foolish statement to be called foolishness.

Now you're just lying. You've accused him of being a racist several times.

A man wouldn't have made such a foolish statement to be called foolishness.

I see. So then, rather than being able to tell us what I've said that you believe to be "foolishness", you just resort to the "I know you are but what am I" defense.

Man, what are you talking about? I didn't tell Mr. Sterling to say what he said. If Joe Blow down the street had said the same thing about a playground game, it wouldn't have mattered. It's news because the man is the owner of a team in the premiere basketball league in the world. Where has the government tyranized or criminalized what he said? He's being pummeled by the free market responding to his statements.

God uncovered his wrong. The "race card" is going because Mr. Sterling made some comments about how he feels. And he is still free to feel however he chooses. But the free market, upon which the league is driven, does not have to tolerate what looks like racist sentiments by a team owner.

No, you two are playing right into the corrupt government's hand by adding more fuel to the fire. Racism isn't going to go away precisely because guys like you keep shoving in people's faces all time. As I said to John, foolishness. Racism isn't going away because a large chunk of America doesn't want to deal with it or thinks it's a thing of the past. Implying that not talking about racism as the solution to racism does about as much good as implying that not talking about the Gospel of Jesus Christ is the solution for sin.

And as far as what some sports figure says who cares anyway? Christ is supposed to be our role model not some sweaty guy bouncing a ball around.

Who said otherwise? There are Black and White Christians in that league and I personally don't think any of them should suit up again until Sterling is removed from ownership.
