Can A Baptist Believe In TULIP And Not Be Reformed?

As I happen to lean towards being a believer in at least the first 4 points, still not sold on Jesus dieing JUST for the elect...

Can one believe that way, and not be Reformed?

Believe in premilliniual /Pre trip rapture

Can we take TULIP yet still dispensational?

Depends on which "reformed" person you are talking too. They come with differing levels of tolerance for those who would dare to disagree.

I believe and preach without compromise and without apology all five of the truths of the Doctrines of Grace and I am not Reformed. I hold to a covenant theology and I am not Reformed. I disagree with both the Westminster and the London confessions on the law, necessary consequence, sanctification and sacraments. So the answer is yes you can.

Can you believe in a premil eschatology and be Reformed? Yes. It is known as historic premil. My favorite theologian, John Gill, was premil. Can you be a Dispensationalist and be Reformed? No.

John Macarthur is a calvinistic premillenial dispensationalist.

You wouldn't be "Reformed" in the sense of adhering to covenant theology, etc. I would say the best way to describe it would be "Calvinistic in soteriology."

To be truly Reformed (as Calvin certainly was) one usually must also embrace a covenantal system over dispensationalism. There are a lot of theological problems between the proper view of Reformed theology and dispensationalism (not to mention pre-trib/pre-millenialism)

There are a lot of men who hold to the truths of the Doctrines of Grace but few whom the truths hold. MacArthur is one who holds to these truths. He preaches mostly Dispensational eschatology or his Lordship Salvation legalism.

Yes. One's soteriology and one's eschatology can differ, and do. The MacArthur example is good.

J Vernon McGee was a five pointer if I am not mistaken and he was most certainly a dyed in the wool dispensationalist.

While we're at it, somebody please explain why a Calvinist shouldn't be a dispy. I know, McArthur is, but if he shouldn't be why not? What's the conflict?

BTW, I'm historic pre-mil, but came to that position well after I became a DoG.

And I know one DoG who is A-mil. Any conflict there?

Don't forget our resident antagonistic preterist and adamant five pointer to boot named Tom, though he hasn't been around to play lately.

Yes. Whether you are wise to do so is another question.

You are mistaken, J Vernon McGee was not a Calvinist whatsoever, I have listened to him many times. I know for a fact he disagreed with Unconditional Election, Limited Atonement and Irresistable Grace.

That's correct. McGee was in no way a Calvinist.

The L will fall into place when you study the Covenant of Redemption, the covenant of grace, and the High Priesthood of Jesus.
We are all reforming. Some who hold to covenant theology will say that baptists cannot be reformed. The 1689 confession is a RB confession of faith.
[how you view the covenants determines where you stand theologically]
Premill, pretrib rapture, will soon fade away if you are able to believe and have a covenantal view of scripture.

Dispensationalism is not correct....and leads to wrongly dividing
the word of God. It will stunt your growth spiritually.
All the systems seek to account for what is contained in the 66 books.
Some do it better than others. Read the best teachers on each view and be able to give an accurate account of each system, then see where you fit in.
