Happy Birthday again Helen!! Hey - can you celebrate on 2 days?? ;)

Simple day today. Homeschool, cleaning, laundry and such. DH and I will run out when the girls get home to pick up the new sink for our 1/2 bath and then tonight is the rescheduled school board meeting. Gotta stand up for the friend of ours who taught the class on "What is Creation Science" - it was too funny when the one guy, who was totally against this wrote a letter that said that this was a " a deceiving course title and an attack on evolution - and a thinly veiled attempt at teaching religion". Now, of course NO one is against the course called "Problem Solving from a Buddist Perspective". LOL!

    Hey Everyone!

I finally got to sit down for a minute and check in. Won't last long though I'm afraid. I have several things to do, including paying bills. (yuck!)

We have storms headed our way. One of them will be here in just a minute according to the radar. School let out at noon, but I only had Jenna to pick up. Cass and Chris' heads have been busy predicting just how bad the storms are going to by giving them major migraines. Chris' is a little more complicated than that so ya'll pray for him. If he's not better by Monday we'll be visiting the hopital as this migraine cycle has lasted for four weeks with little relief.

My house smells. Sunday night is the pine derby race at church and T thought that Chris' car needed one more coat of clearcoat this morning. Can't paint in the rain, so he asked if I minded him doing it in the house. Naturally I thought he meant in the kitchen. NOT SO! I got home from taking Jenna to school and found he had covered the DINING ROOM table with newpaper and painted it there. Guess where the cold air return for the heat pump is? Mmmhmmm, you're right, it is just outside outside our open to the entire house dining room. Ah well, it's for a good cause and the smell is not as bad as it was.

Helen, I have an animal story for you. I have to keep the huskies tied cause they keep escaping the fence and trying to eat the neighbor's cats. Being the excellent communicators that huskies are, they "tell" me when they've gotten themselves tangled or have knocked over their water or whatever.(Mishka sounds like the tornado siren) Mostly, they don't talk to me at night, thank goodness. So last night they woke me up at 1 am, howling their shaggy heads off. I climb out of bed (I'm well trained) find some clothes (in the dark so I don't wake T) and walk outside to see what is up. Mishka is closest to the door and there was nothing wrong with her. So, knowing that they howl for one another, I head toward Ava. There was nothing wrong with her either! I'm just about to pitch a little tantrum at being woke up in the middle of the night by two miserable dogs when I hear it, way way off in the distance, so far away that I can barely hear it at all: Thunder. Crazy dogs! Hammer, the dog I had to put down last summer was terrified of thunder and he taught the girls well. They were telling me, way before the storm ever hit, that they wanted in the garage! And of course, their willing slave promptly gave them their wish! Sad, isn't it? The real storm didn't hit for at least another 30 minutes and then I think it only thundered twice!

Ah well, I need to get up from this computer. My guinea pigs are fussing to have their cage cleaned out. I have a leaky water bottle and it keeps soaking one side of the cage and then it mildews if I don't get the wet bedding out promptly. I gotta figure out what's causing the problem. I tried changing out the bottle spigot to no avail. Somewhere around here I have a whole new bottle, I guess I'll have to hunt it out.

You see I'm not to keen on getting up........ :D

Good morning all! Just dropped in to see how you all doing. It is raining cats and dogs in our neck of the woods. At least it melts all the snow. Perhaps we have almost as much or more rain than you had a few days ago Helen. By the way, a belated Happy Birthday to you! :flower: So, how old are you anyway? Fourteen and three quarters.....?

BTW, I was watching with sadness the tornado damaged areas in the southern and Midwest states. We heard that more than 11 people were killed. I don't know about you, but I never heard of a tornado touching down in early March. What can we expect for the rest of the year?

Sue, are you still going out to your corner or you've retired? I haven't been around much to read about your adventures.

annsni, congratulations on your successful carpal tunnel surgery! Now I know why the emoticons with the clapping hands.

menageriekeeper, your displayed name sounds so familiar from another dispensation. Weren't you a Moderator at one time on the BB?

    Good Morning Everybody,

It is 32 degrees here, all the ice-melt from yesterday became ice again overnight, and now it's snowing.

Sounds like my Cuz suffers from dropsy and heart trouble. She drops into a chair and doesn't have the heart to get up out of it.

Saw news coverage of the high school in Alabama that was hit by the tornado. It looks like a war zone.

I brought in Sausage Scramble, South-of-the-Border Quiche, Breakfast Calzones, and Skillet Sausage with Potatoes and Rosemary. Enjoy.

Today is grocery shopping, and other errands in town. Time to replace the tires with ice skates.

    Good morning all,

We got the rain yesterday, not sure what we're in for today, but it is gray and windy right now. March came in like a lion here, so it should go out like a lamb. March is the month the tornadoes start around here. It is always a very windy month.

Tim: Due to health issues, I am not a regular on the corner anymore, but I still 'sub' when someone else calls off work. I worked the first three days of this week.

The carnage in Alabama, from the tornado, is terrible!!! This morning, a charter bus, full of college baseball players from Ohio, drove off of an over pass and fell onto the Interstate, killing 6 college students. They were on their way to Florida and the accident happened in Atlanta, Georgia.

I am going to do as little as possible today. I think I'll sit in the recliner and crochet while I watch movies. I started an afghan to put over the back of the couch yesterday. Plus I've been crocheting bunny rabbits and baby chicks to put on the fridge for Easter. They are finished except for adding the eyes and the magnets.

    Hot chocolate time...

    Good morning folks!

Well, the two days of birthday are over and thank you for all the good wishes! Lovely dinner last night with friends. All told I got three different gift certificates to gardening stores and nurseries....now WHY would that be?

I don't mean to sound like what I'm probably going to sound like, but when the weather is so threatening, WHY are sports teams from colleges and high schools busing their kids around from state to state? What kind of insanity IS that? My daughter Julie's husband is on a parplegic basketball team and she went to a game of his that is three hours away from their college in Wisconsin. She ended up in a whiteout trying to drive home (her husband was on the team bus and she was with the girlfriend of another player -- a foreign student who barely spoke English but was good at panicking...), and became lost and scared. They had to spend a night in a motel and then get home the next day. I'm grateful they found a motel! She was still shaking the next day when she called to tell me what happened.

WHAT IS WRONG with keeping out of harm's way and keeping the people home when things get bad? It's horrid enough when a tornado hits a school, but why go out looking for trouble?

    Rant over...

Looks like we're getting a break in the weather around here. We'll see some sun this weekend, at least off and on, and the temperatures will stay above freezing at nights at least until the middle of next week. That's a nice change.

And we stayed below our budget for last month...and that is GREAT!

MK, loved the dog story. We have a rescue mutt, Tia, who was found wandering starving on the streets. She is like my shadow. As one of our friends told me, "If she stayed any closer to you she'd be on the other side of you!" BUT she is easily frightened, and when Barry used a fly swatter for flies last autumn, she was terrified and hid under the desk shaking! When Sam was alive I remember that my brave old wolf dog would tremble at the sound of thunder. You know, I don't think it is the thunder itself so much as the fact that the electrical charges in the air during a thunder storm may be upsetting to the animals, and then the noise only makes it worse.

But getting up in the middle of the night to an upset? Yeah...

There was one night long ago when we heard our chickens raising a horrid ruckus in the middle of the night. I thought "oh no, a raccoon..." and took a flashlight and ran out.

Our rabbit, who lived in the same area, had cornered the chickens and was stamping his foot at them and they were hysterical.

What to do? We laugh. What else is there? As my husband has remarked a couple of times, laughing, "Who runs this house, anyway?" I don't know! Me? I'm the servant....

Have a peaceful day, y'all and God bless.

    Good morning!

I'm sure glad the storm is over! We woke up to atrocious thunderstorms yesterday. My son's satelite dish was blown completely away, and a few trees blown down in his neighborhood. He and his new bride spent much of the afternoon in the laundry room, away from windows. Atlanta was spared the worst of the storm, but we still had some heavy rain and a little wind.

Today is beautiful, tho, and we were planning to tour Barnsley Gardens today. But our route would take us up Interstate 75, which was shut down because of the tragic bus accident with the Baseball team. Traffic is horrible all over town because of the detour, so I guess we'll go another time. So sad for the poor kids!

Ann, what color did you decide to paint your bathroom? I read about it, but haven't had much time to post much lately. The fixtures and sink look gorgeous.

    Ya'll have a good day!
Happy Belated Birthday, Helen!! I hope your day was especially wonderful!

Isn't all of that such horrible news? The tornadoes, the bus accident - such sadness. :(

We woke today to lots of rain - and no hot water. I knew what that meant and DH and I got to work on the basement that was now flooded (the water drowned out the pilot light on the gas hot water heater). The basement is now semi-dry and the pump is pumping out the last of the water as I type. I'll shut it off before I leave for church - the rain should be stopping in the next hour or two.

I was SUPPOSED to be at church working this morning - but I'll do that as I can while I'm up there for homeschool group. I also got a call from the person who's house our small group meeting is supposed to be at and she's overwhelmed - with 9" of water in her basement and a mess in the house so I told her we'll meet at church tonight instead. I wish all problems came with such easy solutions!! :D

So, I've got to go dry my hair (finally got a hot shower - thanks to DH) and then scamper off to church. I'll "see" you guys probably tomorrow since I'm busy until then. Fridays are just way too busy when I have work, homeschool group (that's only 2 Fridays a month) AND small group. Add in a home disaster and it just doesn't all fit. I'll have to do some more work at church tomorrow. Oh well!

Have a great, dry day all!!

    Good Afternoon Everyone!

Servants rule the world Helen. How else would folk get by? :D

had a peaceful night, once the storms passed. No dogs waking us up for a change. This morning they were ready to go back to their own corners and get out of the garage! Now they are sunning themselves, looking like they are dead out in the yard. My dad's little dogs are streched out on the deck looking the same way. Hope animal control doesn't come around and get the wrong idea!

Yay! Chris made it to school and so far is still there! The nice weather we are having today is supposed to last a while so hopefully we can stop this migraine cycle and he can get a few days peace and get his stomach back under control. The meds he takes have really caused some problems. It's sad to hear him say his head is better but now his stomach hurts nearly as bad. :(

Got to run another dress across town and then run check Dad's house and other dog. Jenna's going with since she ran a freak fever for no reason that I can tell all yesterday pm. When i get back it'll be clean the house time(we'll see).

I'm all alone tonight, with my Wife in Texas and the Gkids with my Son this weekend.

Tonight I made Basil & Garlic Chicken Marsala served on a bed of hot cooked orzo pasta, Scored Potatoes, and Fresh Lemon Tart for dessert.

Now Ann tells me [on another thread] that when her family is away she usually has cereal. I don't know how to "cook" cereal, so I made something I know how to cook. I probably made too much, so I brought it into the coffeehouse for anybody who stops by. Enjoy.

Tonight is a nice quiet night, sitting in front of the fire with a pot of hot cocoa, doing my Bible Study and Devotions.

So, apparently, it wasnt my best friend not wanting to takl to me anymore. It was me being over anxious, and she was getting annoyed.

I went to the doctor today to give her my list of symptoms, and she just sat there wide eyed, and listening for one consistent thought. She then asked me "Ok....so you are in school?" I said yes. Then she says "And you have two small children?" I said yes. Then she said "Ok, I am going to put you on Klodipan(a nerve pill) because it wont make you drowsy. Im also giong to put you an adderall. I think we can both agree you need them both."

So yeah.....Ive just been clinically disturbed for a few months. At least I can repair it.

Glad you got some help, PD! When I was your age, I had two kids and a job. We didn't have nerve pills then (I don't think). We just toughed it out somehow and slept when we could...

Rob: You mean you've never fried corn flakes?

Just buy a box of Cream of Wheat, Oatmeal or Malt-O-Meal and cook away...

    Good morning all,

It is 20º this morning with a dusting of snow already. We're kind of expecting several different kinds of weather today. None of them sound like spring!

Well, I have enjoyed my mini-vacation enough. I am bored. I miss Brent! :tear: I have been crocheting an afghan for the couch and have gotten pretty far on it since I had nothing to do but just sit, but I'm ready for Brent to come home!

Cooking is not even fun when I'm the only one who is going to be eating. Maybe I could just send him someplace for one day a week. That would be nice. Then I could bring him home right before the boredom sets in.

    Time for hot chocolate!

Morning all! It's a beautiful day today - due to get to 55 which is downright springlike!! We have the flooding in the basement taken care of, which I'm thrilled about - and it's nice to have hot water again (hot water heater was flooded).

Today is swimming lessons for Robby (6) and our friend is coming over to help move a light fixture in our new bathroom so that we can fit the medicine chest. Thank God for him!! DH is out now at church for a men's breakfast and then they're doing some work on the new addition of the church (we're at the point of having members do all the rest of the work - about 65% of all the work has been done by members - saving us a ton of money!

Also today, I've got to make food for a friend of ours who's mom died earlier in the week - and she's got a huge crowd at her house. I'm going to call her soon to see what she would like - I know she made some things already so I want it to be able to go with that (they'll have dinner at their house after the first wake in the afternoon - before they go back for the second one). I'm thinking of just doing chicken cutlets (breaded and fried) because those can be quite versatile. We'll see.

I THINK tonight will be quiet for us. My oldest will be babysitting and I don't think there's anything else pressing. Hmmmmm.....

OH!!! I just remembered I need to get up to church to finish the announcements! Yikes!! I'm going to hurry and get a shower so I can get that done!

    Ta-ta!! Have a great day!

No, but I have sauted Sugar Puffs. Not one of my successes.

    Good Morning Everybody,

It is 32 degrees here and doing nothing[for a change,] we had a blizzard yesterday you couldn't see your hand in front of your face.

I'm feeling adventurous this morning, let's try ... Potato-Crust Chicken Quiche, Ham and Asparagus Puff Pancake, Creamy Banana Crepes, and Caramel Apple Panini. Enjoy. I'm dangerous when I'm alone and want to try new things,

The house sure is quiet and empty with everybody gone. I could talk to the dog, but he stutters.

Chores are done. I'd walk the dog but neither of us are very steady on ice.

Guess I'll watch some NCAA basketball this afternoon.

I don't know what to make for dinner tonight. Thinking it'll be Honey Mustard Chicken, or Chicken Ham Casserole, or Potato Crust Chicken Quiche and Crab Cake Sandwiches. Not sure. What do you think sounds good from these choices?

Well, 24 hours on medication, and doing great. The only ground rules i have set up are 1. WHen I am studying, dont keep asking me to go into the other room to do something, 2. Dont talk to me about selling our house or putting a bid in on the other one we want, 3. When I say I need a job, dont tell me that we will manage somehow....let me get a job.

Ive wanted to work for so long. Its smart for me to work. Even if a majority of my paycheck would go to childcare, the remaining funds can buy our groceries, and fill our gas tanks. Yet, my husband seems to think that by saving the $780 a month in childcare, we would be coming out ahead.....even though we are having to dip into savings to by groceries, and running up the credit card to fill up the gas tanks.

If someone knows how to explain this to a stubborn man, please, share your knowledge. I'll even give you a dollar.

You might want to reconsider, PD, especially since you have preschool children at home. There is something to be said for raising your own children instead of letting someone else raise them. It's a blessing to have a husband who will allow you to stay home with your babies. They grow up all too fast...

    Good morning all,

It is back down to 12º this morning and I thought spring was on the way!

Brent got home around midnight last night, but he was too tired to talk, so I don't know who won the basketball or volleyball games at the tournament. I know it was a 4/5 hour bus ride each way. I'm just hoping he brought everything back that he took with him...

Going to cook a pot roast, potatoes, and carrots for dinner. He should like that since he's been eating at McDonald's since Thursday night!

    Time for hot chocolate!

PD - I agree with Sue - AND there are associated costs with working that I don't think you're figuring in. In child care, children are sicker than if they're home, you will be tired, thus purchasing MUCH more convenience foods than you normally might and your wardrobe will have to be brought up to snuff probably, so that will be additional. I'd suggest you come on over to www.prairiehomemaker.com (I'd have to get you in - it just went private - if you want to join to check it out, then I'll get you in within the next week - the owner just had surgery so things are a little slow to get approved while she recovers). The ladies there are amazing savers and can help so much in cutting costs. Check out www.hillbillyhousewife.com for lots of great info too. AND - as Sue said, there is nothing like being able to be home to raise your own children. I think there are costs that we can't even begin to consider - not financial ones but emotional and mental. Pray about whether or not you should work. ((HUGS))

Today is church, then we'll run home for a quick lunch then DH and I are running out for a funeral. After that, we'll go to the club for dinner - I want a good chicken ceasar salad!! YUM!!

    Have a wonderful day everyone!!
