COMMON GROUND COFFEE HOUSE #65

My youngest, Anna, had me laughing soooo hard last night!
We've never had stockings before and we do this year. I decided that since they were being so nice and it would look cute I'd fill them last night instead of tonight, but I put the stuffed animals peeking out from the tops so they couldn't see what else might be in there.
The girls came out of their rooms when I was done to check it out, and Anna just started SCREAMING and jumping she was so excited, then she did cartwheels across the living room. I have NEVER seen the child that worked up! I laughed so hard my stomach hurt...too cute!
I wish I would have had a video camera for that one.

Well! No one even commented on the pictures I posted. Am I being ignored? :(

Brent's Great Grandpa bought him a brand new Schwinn and drove all the way from Wisconsin to give it to him tonight. He is almost 80!

Everyone over-ate and had a good time tonight. Brent got some nice gifts from his sisters and mother. Dale got another dolphin sculpture and I got a DVD player.

The three of us will open our presents in the morning.

Well, I'm calling it a night. 3:00am comes very early. It is going to be right around 0º again in the morning.

Pleasant dreams all!

I just got my mail and joy, an electric bill! The dumb thing is I paid it in full before I moved out of state.
They sent me a bill for the remainder of the actual reading of my meter, which was $29.06
Sure, no problem.
But they included some off charge for taxes in the amount of $46.01 and a little note saying that it was state law to charge kilowatt hour taxes and assessments to asist in the support of PUCO. What in the world is that? So $33 of the bill was the taxes, and the rest was the assistance fee thing.
I don't get it. Since when are taxes more than your whole bill? What is PUCO and why am I being charged to assist them?
Any Ohioans here who got this suprise addition on their bill?

We're waiting for Nick to go to sleep so we can do some assembly! Hope he gets to sleep soon!

Our Jon's car wouldn't start so he had to quickly get an alternator and battery. At least he's got a heated garage on his condo. Last I talked to him, he was still working on it so not sure if he'll come in late tonight or early in the morning. Looks like I'll be holding the screwdriver and other tools for Jim tonight. :D

Sue, my sister in law made our Christmas Village about 12-15 years ago. We broke one tree and never replaced it. Yours looks much bigger than mine. It's very pretty! You did a beautiful job on the platters! YUM! Very colorful too. I like to have colorful foods.

Didn't see your post earlier Gina. I'm bad about starting a post, watching t.v. and finishing it much later. YIKES!

Our gas bills are always like that except in the dead of winter. $18.00 for gas and $40. for them to read our meter, educate the public, etc! Taxes too! I told them I'd read it and call it in for FREE!

Gina, PUCO=Public Utilities Commission of Ohio. It is the regulatory agency that oversees the elctric, gas, water, etc.companies that do business in Ohio. As to why your bill has all that extra ....got me????

'Twas the night before Christmas when all through the house
I searched for the tools to hand to my spouse.
Instructions were studied and we were inspired,
In hopes we could manage "Some Assembly Required."

The children were quiet (not asleep) in their beds,
While Dad and I faced the evening with dread:
A kitchen, two bikes, Barbie's town house to boot!
And, thanks to Grandpa, a train with a toot!

We opened the boxes, my heart skipped a beat....
Let no parts be missing or toys incomplete!
Too late for last-minute returns or replacement;
If we can't get it right, it goes into the basement!

When what to my worrying eyes should appear,
But 50 sheets of directions, concise, but not clear,
With each part numbered and every slot named,
So if we failed, only we could be blamed.

More rapid than eagles the parts then fell out,
All over the carpet they were scattered about.
"Now bolt it! Now twist it! Attach it right there!
Slide on the seats, and staple the stair!

Hammer the shelves, and nail to the stand."
"Honey," said hubby, "you just glued my hand."
And then in a twinkling, I knew for a fact
That all the toy dealers had indeed made a pact

To keep parents busy all Christmas Eve night
With "assembly required" till morning's first light.
We spoke not a word, but kept bent at our work,
Till our eyes, they went bleary; our fingers all hurt.

The coffee went cold and the night, it wore thin
Before we attached the last rod and last pin.
Then laying the tools away in the chest,
We fell into bed for a well-deserved rest.

But I said to my husband just before I passed out,
"This will be the best Christmas, without any doubt.
Tomorrow we'll cheer, let the holiday ring,
And not have to run to the store for a thing!

We did it! We did it! The toys are all set
For the perfect, most perfect, Christmas, I bet!"
Though there's something to say for those self-deluded...
I'd forgotten that BATTERIES are never included!

Thanks Turpius.
I'm thinking maybe it's a grudge charge for having moved away from their service area? LOL

Nice poem Dr. B.
I bought myself an exercise thingy for the first time in my life, my own present. :D I had to assemble it. For about two seconds I thought "I'm gonna have to go find a guy to finish this" but then I got it and YAY! It's done.
I love taking things apart, but have yet to be able to put them together without a few mumbled oaths...

Cold, windy and wet here this early morning. The house smells like a giant cookie. Our neighbor brought over a red velvet cake. Of course we had to sample it, several times.

Well, its almost 2am here. Still no snow, but Santa did come by. He even had a cookie and some hot chocolate. My 3 year old was afraid he'd be cold.
After he left, DH decided to cook some seasoned taco meat for our babysitter whose family well be eating dinner with tomorrow. She goes crazy over it every time she eats here (which is alot). Then he got a wild hair and made tacos for just the two of us to eat. It was an interesting Christmas morning "breakfast" at 1:30 am, but it might make a great tradition!!
We made our Happy B-Day Jesus cake tonight before we went to look at lights. Of course, the heater in our car doesn't work (but we hardly ever need it) so we bundled up with blankets and hot chocolate and had a great time. Now its time to go catch a few zzzz's before the natives awaken.
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night.
