Oh, I can relate to this too. Visiting my grandparents (in far northern MN) as a boy, I remember waking up to -40 or lower some winter mornings. The old farm house (ca. 1900) had the facilities out the door & about 25 feet to the side of the house. YIKES!There is nothing like an outdoors loo at 50 below...
