I'm here and I survived both VBS and a visit to my parents. I may not survive the whiny, bickering kids I'm left with. This week has tired everyone out.

I've been trying to catch up a little on all the discussions going on everywhere here that I've missed this week. I think that'll take longer than getting out that juniper!

Speaking of which, I've had a nice break now and am about to go outside and see if it is too wet to pull out some more roots. I'm hoping the rain we've had today will make it easier, because the ground will be softer. Then again it may be too wet.

I've been wondering about Terry too, but then reread his thread where it said it would be Monday before he got the results.

Our VBS themes were very similar to things we had done in SS this past year but our stories were different. The kid didn't mind one way or the other. It never hurts to review!

I got my boy back! Boo Yah!

The poison ivy that was broken out when he left is mostly gone, but he kept breaking out the next day and some of that is still quite visible.

The spider bite on the back of his leg looks bad, despite the fact that he has been taking Keflex all week. I may have to take him back to the doctor.

He was putting Neosporin on it at camp (but probably not regularly) but then he would forget to cover it with a band-aid.

He has almost no voice left from singing all the way back on the bus and he is one tired little boy.

He also lost a tooth at camp, but the tooth fairy didn't come.

He said the preaching was "awesome". They had devotionals morning and night, plus chapel every day. They went to bed at 11, got up at 6, and walked a mile before breakfast - they all ate good.

We both have our jammies on already and we are watching the DVD, National Treasure.

I think we will go to bed when it's over as we have to do papers early in the morning and Grandpa will be at work.

It's done!

I don't mean VBS either.

Son and I fought rain, insects and crepe myrtle limbs, but all that juniper and its many roots are out!

Now, when Arlene gets past us, or if we get a break in the rain tomorrow, I can put in all the plants I've had here for a week.

Welcome Home to Brent! Sue, I had to take Augmentin for a spider bite a couple of years ago. Brent may need a stronger antibiotic!

Good for you Cindi! I've not ever had to pull out juniper but we used a car to pull out some ugly evergreen bushes in Connecticut back in the early 1980's. The centers had died and they were UGLY!

I'm so very glad tomorrow is Saturday. The preachers kids didn't get picked up until 6:30 and baby was ready for bed. I went ahead and fed him supper but just knew if I put him down he'd be down for the night. At least all daddy had to do was put him down. I changed him right as the car pulled up.

Nick has even MORE new friends. Another family moved in and he's met another kid. A group are having a sleep over on the corner and he told them 'no thanks'. The family hosting it 'aren't into the God thing' so Nick came home and said he'd declined because he knew he shouldn't sleep over at where the grown ups aren't Christians!

I told him he could have his own sleep over and invite the boy visiting across the street another night.

Well we had a nice supper. I ate SO much yellow (summer) squash. I'd eat it for breakfast! We finished a LARGE bowl full. YUM. Good for me too!

Well I'm sleepy and it's still 40 mins. til NUMB3RS comes on.

God keep you all safe and praying for Terry's good results and that the mass be completely gone!

Good Saturday Morning everyone!

Arlene is already dumping her rain on us, which is preventing our finishing the deck. So instead we are going to head out to Walmart(kids have money to spend) and then do various chores and hobbies inside the house.

One of the dogs is finally blowing her coat and I discovered a hotspot on her, so part of my day will include grooming and doctoring her. The other husky has been blowing hers for a few weeks already and is nearly done. Thank goodness our other dog doesn't shed like the huskies. I'd never get all the hair out of the yard.

we are starting to get a little nastry weather. It looks wirse t han it is, really. The color is "funny" outside like it usually gets before that kind of storm.

We are just playing around inside, too. Cant do much else.

My 3 year old daughter has 4 spider bites on one leg. DOnt know where she got them - maybe at VBS. The 4 year old doesnt have any, and they do everything together. This makes 29 spider bites in this baby's short life! I think she attracts them.

We're not going to get that really heavy rain you girls are getting. Weatherbug shows it moving north. There's a slight line of rain headed our way tho. It's very overcast and 71° here. Perfect temps!

Not much going on this weekend other than cleaning and resting up for VBS. I'm SO sure I'll get to church tomorrow and find our mountain fell down. The lady helping me had never decorated before. She's about 8 years younger than me but for some reason, I keep thinking she's a lot older so I let her make the decisions. She's a more assertive person and maybe that's why.

The rain is slow and steady here and our temp is about 70. It's a good day for ducks!

T is going to take the kids and go see Mr. and Mrs. Smith. I'm going to clean the kitchen and work on grooming Mishka if she hasn't gotten herself too wet. She might get a bath if I find a bunch of fleas. I probably need to give my MIL's dog a bath too. We've been dogsitting while they've been on vacation and we let/put her out more than they do.

Sometime this pm I hope to make it to my sewing machine. I have a baby shower gift and two birthday gifts to make.

We 'hid' the toy area with a 'mountain' but I bet you it's down! I just KNOW it won't hold the way we put it up. I dread going in there tomorrow to even see.... I'm glad the church is locked today or I'd be up there trying to fix it by myself!

We had some drizzle but that's it. It's 73° and very overcast. I wouldn't mind it staying cooler all week.

Afternoon all:

I got up at 4:00, folded and bagged the papers, then woke Brent up at 5:00 to help deliver them.

Then we went to our favorite restaurant for biscuits and gravy...

THEN, we went to Ace hardware, Wal-Mart, the grocery store, and another doctor's appointment for Brent because of his poison ivy. He is COVERED with it! He even has it on his face and ears!

They say it can lay dormant for two weeks, so we've got another week to look forward to bumps and blisters popping out...

The bad spot on the back of his leg is not a spider bite after all, it is poison ivy that became infected.

The doctor gave him a shot of something I can't pronounce, took him off Keflex and put him on Amoxicylin and Prednisone and gave him some topical Prednisone salve.

Dale finally found the poison ivy. It is the vine type and is growing on two of our trees. He tore it down and dug the roots out today.

Other than that, it's been a calm day...

Probably gave him a cortisone shot and the prednisone will clear him up right away! Poor Kid! Glad you found it tho and Dale got rid of it. Our Jon would look horrible for weeks until he went through the series of shots.

Nick can't find anyone home to play with today and he's miserable. Jim's watching baseball and I'm being lazy and worrying about my VBS mountain being down. Think I'll go up to the church and peek through the window. LOL

Poor Nick. Bitsy is in the same boat. She was supposed to go to a birthday party today, but it was canceled. The big kids got to go with Dad, but she is to young. So she's stuck here with me and I'm no fun. I expect to much. According to her I'm supposed to provide entertainment. According to me, she is old enough to entertain herself! On top of that, kitty cat is hiding. She is having such a bad day. (of course she doen't want to talk about the brand new toy she got at Walmart. )

I'm just about to head toward the sewing machine. The kitchen is as clean as it's getting for the time being and Mishka's coat wasn't as lose as it looks. So I'm going to hunt down the baby bubble pattern I use for boys and get started on the shower gift.

Diane, if masking tape won't hold it up try duct tape! (just don't tell the building committee that I told you to do it.

)

It's half down, Cindi. I went and looked. I've always had a wonderful room and the church allowed us all $50. to buy decorations. I just couldn't go out shopping and honestly didn't have the money to use and then to wait for reimbursement. We're only in there for 40 mins. in the mornings and 10 mins. while waiting for the parents at the end of the day.

That bit of time is hardly worth decorating for.

However, get out the duct tape!

Really, did you use generic masking tape or were you hanging it from the ceiling tiles? Ceiling tiles require fishing line and paperclips, and if you don't use generic masking tape you are likely to get the "4 hour" stuff that won't hold anything up. I guess it makes it easier for the painters to pull it off the walls but it doesn't help us who decorate for VBS. The blue stuff also doesn't hold well.

Evening all...

It's been raining like crazy here! Viv and I went into Bell Buckle, got the mail and then headed over to the church around 11:30am, and we didn't finish most of the things for VBS until about 4pm. Our "parade" through Midland Acres subdivision was pretty much ruined by the rain, but we had the youth director drive his truck through with a sign saying "Rain Delay: Come to Midland Baptist Church to Register for VBS!" One or two people came from the subdivision. But, we know more are coming.

I'm looking forward to working VBS this year. It's going to be a long week for Viv with little sleep, but she knows the importance of reaching them while they are young. Overall, it has been a great day of fellowship, work and fun.

God is good!

MK...my wife was griping at me when we were helping set up the church for VBS today telling me that "duct tape" was a "man thing"! Not more than five seconds later, the pastors wife came through asking for some duct tape, and five minutes later another lady from the church came in asking for duct tape! I just looked at my wife and laughed! I just read her your posts, and she told me to "shut up"! LOL Told her it wasn't just a guy thing!

Cindi, my 'co-teacher' is new to all this, coming from a very different background. She had the idea of creating the mountain by going side to side where the walls meet at the corner with the toys piled behind. We started high and worked our way down using masking tape. The middle is the widest area and is what fell. I had 20 yards of gray material that I'd planned on putting in a 'ring', attaching to the ceiling and then bringing down almost teepee style as a ceiling to floor mountain with our cubbie holes and small bookcases (which I've covered in green paper and flowers) to block the kids from going 'under' the mountain. I'd made dozens and dozens of tissue flowers that never got put on our tree either. We have 9 foot ceilings and I have a minor vertigo problem. Ladders are not my friends!

Oh well.... it's going to be fine. I'm just a perfectionist and this was not an easy theme for such a very large room anyhow. I had it last year and the Japanese theme was LOVELY!

Night all! Going to early service again so need to get some sleep.

My two best friends are WD-40 and duct tape. It's my father and husbands fault. Any time I needed their help fixing something, they handed one or the other (or both!) and said "use this". The only complaining they did over how I used it was that they couldn't find it the next time they needed it. I solved that problem by buying my own!

Diane, use more wider masking tape. (I'd have been with you and used the fabric) You still have tomorrow to decorate, correct. After that, worry not. I don't even remember the rooms being decorated for VBS when I was a kid. I don't really remember the rooms, even.

VBS, always works out in the end!

Good morning all:

Papers are delivered and although it rained last night and is forecast for today, it held off while we did the route.

Cindi: I agree. Sometimes I think the adults decorate for other adults instead of the kids.

I love to decorate and used to be in charge of decorating the sanctuary, for different occasions and themes, but can't remember ever decorating a room for VBS.

I can't remember what a single room looked like from my VBS days (as a child), but I can tell you about the crafts we made, the stories we heard, and how nice the teachers were.

Diane: I wouldn't worry about it. Kids come to VBS to have fun, make crafts, and eat snacks. They don't care what the room looks like...

I taught VBS for several years and did not decorate the room (other than maybe putting some posters on the walls). Instead I used my resources to buy materials for the kids to use and we made some really nice crafts.

I'm going to lay back down for awhile.

Yep Sue, the church I was in before this one didn't use many decorations and VBS was the biggest outreach we had. Our little chuch of no more than 50 adults and children put together would bring in over a hundred children and adults for VBS. One year we hadn't planned for adults but ended up with a class anyway!

Now Sue, you gotta get back up and get ready for church! You don't want to be late.

Arlene seems to have blown off toward Tony this morning. It is still cloudy but not raining here. All the radar I've seen shows what is left of the storm is north of us. Hopefully the rain will stay away for a while, but as there is a storm system off to our west, I'm not going to hold my breath!
