I took some NyQuil and am going to bed. I've had other mothers call wanting to transfer their children to my class and I told them they'd have to work it out with our leaders because of the high numbers.

It's been rather a long day folks and I'm the only one still up, but heading for bed right now.

Dealing with the car dealer, the insurance agent, accepting the position of moderator, and PR person, on our local FreeCycle site, learning the rules, etc., etc., wore me out today.

Morning all:

MK, I think the people who just moved in last weekend are sore at me for NOT mowing this past weekend (duh...it was raining folks, and I don't have a tractor!~) but, that's okay! They put up a chain link fence right ON the property line, knocking our stakes over and trying to pull up the surveyors pin. Viv's talking about having a surveyor come out here and drawing the property lines again. The other neighbor behind the new ones isn't happy with them either. They've tried to take a few extra feet from his yard. He may have the surveyors out as well. We've not said anything to them yet, but, if we walk out and the pin is gone...well. I'm trying to give them the benefit of the doubt.

VBS was a madhouse...nothing was organized and last minute preparations were still being "last minute" for sure. Kids were still showing up halfway through the evening, which we praise the Lord for, but wish they would have been able to be on time. Then the missionaries didn't show up so a deacon and I had to run the missions part of the program outside in the booth. The younger kids had no way of understanding the information contained in the video, and it was hard for us to explain it to them. Even some of the grade school kids had a hard time understanding what an ambassador was. But, all in all, it was great to see so many kids learning about the Lord! We didn't get out until 9pm, and didn't get to bed until after 10pm. Viv's so worn out that tonight she's PROMISED herself that she's leaving no later than 8pm.

Diane, I'm pretty sure you're right. I probably couldn't do the phone book delivery. The man I talked to who does it for BellSouth here said that it just about kills him and his wife every year! They hardly make enough money to cover the gas according to them. So, I wonder why they keep doing it year after year!?!

Sue Great to hear about God working things out for Dale's truck! That was a blessing to my own heart! God still DOES work miracles, and that is nothing short of miraculous!

Ya'll have a wonderful day. I'm going to try and get some sleep this morning. I staked out most of the tomato plants yesterday, and today I'm going to have to try and mow around this house. It looks like a jungle around the walk!

Good morning all:

We had SEVERE thunderstorms last night with very high winds. A lot of places in central Illinois got hit worse than we did though.

I can see a LARGE branch, down in our back yard, but I haven't checked the rest of the yard yet this morning.

It is 68º with the humidity at 88º and an expected high of 79º today and very windy.

Brent had one guest at VBS yesterday and has three new ones coming today. He may have a fifth guest coming tomorrow...

We are all going to the circus tonight, so today will be busy getting things done around here and running errands.

Morning all!

I planted about a bazillion plants last night and I sure am sore!

Today will be spent mostly sewing and cleaning house. The cleaning is already in progress. If I get the soreness worked out, I have another bazillion or two marigold plants to put out.

I saw hubby looking at what I had planted yesterday, but couldn't tell if he appreciated it or not. He was probably wondering why I didn't wait till we could redo the border. If I had waited the plants would have been dead. They were already suffering from being in those little containers.

Tony, the first day of VBS is always wild. The kids don't mind a bit and even seem to thrive on the chaos. It's us adults that wnt things calm and organized! Glad to hear that you made it through! Poor Vivian, how she survives on the sleep she gets is beyond me.

Sue, wonderful news about the truck!

It's already 90 degrees here and VERY HUMID! Don't think I'm going to be mowing around the house today...don't think my asthma will allow that.

MK...letting those plants stay in those containers too long would have been a mistake. I grew up in the "Marigold Capital" of the world...(Pekin, Illinois) and I transplanted many. It doesn't take much to kill them, and waiting would have been one of those ways. I hope they look great! I love marigolds and have considered planting some around the front walkway.

I took the morning off---after getting in at 12am from a church youth function---and my wife and I got up early---and went to a church member's house---into the woods for those good ole B-L-A-C-K-B-E-R-R-I-E-S!!!!!! Picked 2 1/2 gallons!!!! I can taste that cobbler now!!!!!! (with Blackberry juice on them!!!)

We've got some blackberry bushes out front by the road. We're going to have to move them out back after this year. Don't know how much we're going to get off of them, but it won't be much.

Good Afternoon Everyone! We had 16 in our class today and the children had a great time. I did the story and their eyes were as big as saucers. Later, when in missions they were asked what their story was about, my class called out all the answers, including the 'UNCLEAN! UNCLEAN!' I'm going to do the story again tomorrow. It's where Mary goes to the tomb and doesn't recognize Jesus until He says her name. I hope I can get through it without crying. I can just hear Him say 'Diane'.

I stayed after and tore the rest of our 'postcards' apart, 'stamps' put on them, stapled the daily letters home to mom and dad and magnets together. Rushing to do that everyday just before time to leave was not working out well. My letters home, starting tomorrow, start to share Jesus and ask the parents if there has been a time in THEIR life that they asked Jesus to be their savior. I hope someone reads them.

So, Nick's bite on his ankle has a little swelling right under the bite and it's at least as big as a nickel if not a quarter and bright pink. We have dimes, pennies and tokens in the house but not one quarter! LOL The bite on his neck has just about gone away. It's bright red but tiny now. He had a quick lunch and headed out to play. We gave all the children pizza today and the adults got quite a spread. I ate raw veggies, fruits, cheese and dip. I also had a couple of chips with a cheese chili nacho sauce. You should have seen the desserts! Both days!!!

LOL Diane, teacher breaks in our own lounge away from the kids, is one of my favorite parts of VBS. We even get the ladies who work it to fix us up a recipe book of all the goodies they fed us.

Tony, you made me feel guilty about not mowing my grass. So I mowed the front and now have to do the hayfield that is the back. I hope I can see all the holes my precious huskies have dug so I don't get stuck. Then it's on to those marigolds!

No blackberries here in town. To many skeeters and chiggers out in the country.

Cindi, a few weeks back when it had rained for days Ty said, 'Diane, we don't have mud in our backyard....... We got dog poop!'

Well I had closed up early but it's still 90° here in the t.v. room so I'm heading toward the back of the house where it's a few degrees cooler. We get the afternoon sun directly on the front of our house. That reminds me, still haven't gotten around to scraping and painting our front rails!

Pop up thunderstorms...crazy things. We've got one that is on one side of the road and not the other....A lot of good that does us. Guess I'll have to use county water to water my garden tonight.

Our house faces the afternoon sun too, Diane. I keep the room darkening shades down in the livingroom in summer even though I can't stand the dark. Our bedroom windows face west too, but we have a nice pecan tree that shades them. Since the computer is in our bedroom I can "stay in the light" and be cool too!

Tony, we've had enough rain for a few days, all my plants are drowning. It is nice that it is hot and dry for a change. I probably won't have to water till Thursday or Friday.

I close the big windows on this room before the sun crosses over the house, put up a sun blocking shade and close the blinds. A few years ago we bought extra screens that are supposed to block UV rays and keep it cooler. The only difference I've noticed is that my computer doesn't shut down. LOL I've got a whole house fan that pulls in the cooler air from the shaded back yard. ONLY this room gets that hot! Nick's bedroom is right next door but he's not ever in there during the day so we don't notice it. I do close it up early too, tho. Our rec room is mid 70°'s. The back half of it is under ground.

Diane: Pastor Bob called me about thirty minutes ago (they are on their way back from Florida).

He said, "Guess what town I'm passing through and see if it sounds familiar." It was Villa Rica, GA. He had to take a detour and ended up there.

I told him he should stop and meet you, but he didn't have enough time and there are nine of them traveling together! I told him to at least toot the horn as he went through.

I'm getting OLD!

I'm still mowing grass and trimming and planting, but I'm having to stop and rest every five minutes. What has happened to my stamina?!!!!!

Diane, you need a tree in front of those windows! I have one but it's not big enough yet to give me any shade.

Oh shucks! I'd would have loved to meet them! Villa Rica is SMALL so he had to be only 2 miles from my front door! Maybe next time! Wonder if they drove past our church on Hwy 78? You can't miss it!

Cindi, our driveway is below this room. I think, or Jim says, the reason this room is hotter is the peaked attic above and the garage below. We can't insulate the garage roof because of 'code' and the sprinkler system. Really, we just avoid the t.v. in this room when it gets that hot. We've got t.v.'s in the rec room, Nick's room and my bedroom so it's not like we can't watch a movie or cartoons. The backyard is so shaded. The kids play outside a lot.

It's already dropped to 84° here. We cooked out and Jon's cutting the grass. He has off til Wednesday and Thursday. This is his 'short' week. Jim worked late or rather got stuck in traffic and didn't get home until late.

Oh shucks! I'd would have loved to meet them!

You would have met Pastor Bob, his wife, three of their kids, my oldest daughter, Laura, her three boys and they were ALL hungry. It's probably a good thing they didn't stop!

He called me 2x from towns in different states and had me look up Cici's Pizza so they could eat there.

Bob said he didn't realize you lived that close to Alabama.

They were pressed for time as he is preaching someplace tomorrow night and they were supposed to be there in time for supper tonight (can't remember where) and he has to be back home Friday to preach a funeral.

Well my grass got mostly cut before the belt on the lawnmower broke. It could have waited until Precious had a chance to mow the back a second time. The backyard had gotten so tall during all this rain that I mowed it once on high and then she was mowing it again on low. She only got about a third done.

Most of the plants got put into the ground this evening as well. There are still some marigolds and something my friend calls a "Confederate rose", which doesn't look like any rose I've ever seen. She assures me though that it will grow tall and bloom big flowers. I'm going to put it at the corner of the garage where it is impossible to mow. As a matter of fact there is just about enough space there that can't be mowed to put a hillside flower bed. A flower bed might just solve what has been a perpetual problem.

We ended up with spaghetti for supper since I was still out in the yard when T got home.

Diane, I understand about the garage. I keep mine closed when it is very hot outside. Even so, it gets very hot in there and heats up the inside of the house as well.
