Wow, here's that rain! It's coming down straight so we have all the windows open. Neat! Nice breeze coming from the west....... Anything there, Cindi?

    good evening.

Cindi and Diane, y'all can have some of our rain!! It's rained so much here lately that the roots of the tobacco and peanut plants are starting to rot. The farmers don't like that . . .
Haven't heard about the corn and cotton, but it will probably start to get them too if it hasn't yet.

Oh Dear! We must have our boiled peanuts!

How's your mouth feeling, Gayla? I didn't think to ask if all the teeth were in one area? Hope you're doing MUCH better and sure pray the Clindamycin doesn't tear up your tummy!

Hmmm Gayla, I guess we can't pipe it over here can we?

What we should do is trade places with you for a bit and then maybe we'd see how good we have it at home!

The sleepies have hit me! I'm headed to be with my book......

Well, Illinois will take all the rain y'all! We are in the middle of a severe drought!

Be that as it may - pleasant dreams all!

Well, we just got back from the ER. Brent has a broken arm (which is now in a half cast).

He will be seeing a bone specialist in the morning and will probably end up in a full cast.

He broke it at the elbow and has a cast from his fingertips to the middle of his upper arm.

He likes to ride his bicycle in the morning before it gets hot. This morning, he decided to 'ramp' and the rest is history (so is the rest of his summer). :(

What a way to start the day!

I'm sorry about that, Sue. Now comes all the stories from other people, including me.
But the cast is puzzling. I have two family members who broke their elbows this year, one ice-skating, and one just falling.
One was shattering of the elbow. But neither one had a cast like that. They just couldn't drive for several weeks. But that was because of presumed liability if in a wreck, not because they physically couldn't drive.

They are calling it a "radial neck fracture'. This cast is to protect his arm until he can see a bone specialist.

The bone didn't break the skin, but it looked like a ping pong ball sticking up under his skin.

The cast may be because he is so young too - to keep the arm immobilized.

He is having quite a lot of pain with it. He is taking Motrin, Ibuprofen, Tylenol 3 and napping off and on.

Oh that poor kid! He's had MORE than his share this summer! I guess it goes with being a boy. :(

One Dad down the street built a ramp for his 5 year old who had JUST stopped using training wheels.

The kids are outside. Nick just came in. He and Kelsey wrote on the driveway with chalk and then she wouldn't clean up so he had to do it alone. I sent her outback to play with the little children.

It's going to be a HOT one today. I'm closing up early.

I was not clear in my previous post. The actual elbow is not broken, it's the bone in his forearm very close to the elbow.

I am calling this morning to see if I can't get SOME of the money back because he won't be able to go to camp now.

He is left-handed and guess which arm he broke? Yep, the left one. I'm glad it's summer and not school time because he can't write right-handed!

If you can't, Sue, possibly you could offer it as a way for a child who couldn't afford to go to be able to attend!

I was going to do that, Diane, but they refunded $100.00 and kept the $20.00 registration fee. I think that's fair.

We will use that to help pay our part of the charges for the ER, radiologist, lab, and the specialist he sees tomorrow. ;)

The Motrin and Tylenol 3 is making him drowsy. The ER nurse called this morning to see how he was doing. She said he is going to have a few rough days.

He can't cut his own meat. In fact, he can't even bend his arm to get it to his mouth! The way they have THIS cast on, he can't even wear a sling...

Oh wow Sue, hugs and love to Brent.

And Diane is right maybe there would be a way a child who couldn't attend might be able to pay half, or working out some arrangements.

My life, we dropped the car off at the mechanics to get the inspection, oil change ect. I had a nice visit with my husband as i drove him to work. He is going to his moms this weekend. I'm heartbroken about not going. But, you see there are some rail workers who would like to get home to see their familys on the 4th. My mother in law and I decided we would make it up to each other by a shopping trip to the Amish village later on this summer. The hubby is taking the 3 youngest children with him. The oldest is going to stay here so she and I can finally go spend her Christmas present (a 20 gift card to limited 2) and i'm going to treat her to a movie and dinner. On my only day off. we're hoping to catch church in the morning if i'm not too sleepy from working that night .

Also I cut her hair last night as she wished her hair was down to her tail bone and now is a bit above her shoulder  she loves it i'm not so sure LOL... [IMG] Catch you soon boardmates!!!

Oh I'm so glad you were able to get most of it back! That's a LOT of money!

Hi Wendy! Wishing your husband and children a safe trip over the 4th! Our son, Jon, has volunteered to work but because it's at double time and a half!

Almost time for these kids to start going down for naps. They get up so early! They're all eating lunch right now. I'm SO glad I'm going to have a 4 day weekend! I have no kids every other Friday. [IMG]

Pastor Bob called this morning to touch base with me before he left for a mission trip to Mexico with eight teenagers.

They will be back late next Thursday night. Bobby (21) and Pamela (19) will be coming up to Lincoln for a wedding and will be spending Friday night here. I am always happy to see them.

Then Bobby will go back to Kansas and Pamela will go to Indiana to visit her other Grandma, for a few days, and then come back here and spend some time with me before going back to Kansas.

Brent is hungry (as usual) [IMG] so I am going to fix us some lunch. He may settle down and doze off after his tummy is full...

Poor Brent! He has had a summer! I bet he'll be glad when this one is over.

Not going to be here today. My dad needs help cleaning his carpets at his lake place so we're going to "help" him. Actually I think we're invading!

Ya'll have a good day and stay cool.....

Ah, does that include a dip in the lake or a picnic with ice cold watermelon?

I closed up the front of the house very early and put the sun blockers in the windows and an exhaust fan in one. It's staying quite cool in this room so far. Of course, it's only 85° outside in the sun so not as hot as expected, so far!

Nick and Kelsey are watching a DVD in the rec room. It's almost chilly down there. Ty and MacKenzie are both asleep after playing long and hard outside! I ruined a washcloth trying to get the red clay off them. I keep pretending I'm going to have to take them through a car wash.

Brayden is eating. Boy can that baby eat! He eats a full hotdog every day PLUS veggies. Yesterday he kept fussing for more until he ate a full (not baby food now) can of green beans! Jim says he doesn't think Brayden knows when he's full. No 12 month old could hold so much food!

Well ONE kid down and 3 to go. The Youth Minister is Bi-vocational and works in a rock quarry. He's forced to work overtime. I never know when he will come but mom had thought it would be by 5:00 today.

YEAH! Ty's Dad was finally given the okay to take a short vacation IF he'd work 12 hour days for the next 7 weeks. They really, really wanted to get away. I won't have Ty again until next Thursday at 7:45 a.m. The other three will be here Tuesday at 10:15 and Friday at 8. I can sleep late all next week! 5:30 is HARD on this old girl! LOLOL

Jon's in the shower and his supper's ready. Hubby's not made it home. He got another appt. in Conyers which is 2 hours from home in GOOD traffic.

    Still no rain shower........ [IMG]

Yes, we must have our boiled peanuts! I hope to put some in the freezer for those winter cravings, but every time I buy peanuts I eat them!! You know, go get a few, and a few, and a few more . . .

Never had much pain after the 'extraction'. It was the very back teeth on the top and bottom. Monday, Tuesday and yesterday I was having mild bouts of 'torn up tummy' ;) but after I went to the follow-up visit yesterday morning, I quit taking the antibiotic. What do ya know, normal tummy again. Still taking the good bacteria pills.

Let me see-- summer vacation, a boy, a bike and a broken arm ---hmmm. Sound like a perfect childhood. Oh the flood of memories from the tree house to the doctor's, losing a rock fight and a trip to the doctor's, jumping off the porch roof and a trip to the doctor's, bad aim with a BB gun and a trip to the doctor's...

I'd go on but I don't want you to think I'm accident prone. I just had a full-contact childhood. Tell Brent I'm jealous, celebrate his rite of passage with some chocolate ice cream and buy the boy some Sharpies.
