Howdy everyone!

My goodness the things one misses when they can't get to the computer for a day! It'll take me two days to catch up!

Yesterday the male leadership in the house hogged the computer all day. That is when we weren't running around or getting ready for trick or treaters.

No teenager trick or treaters here. I won't serve them and don't mind telling them that the candy is for the little kids. Precious dressed up and walked with the bunch(we ended up with 8 in the group from my house) but she accept any candy. 13 is too old to be begging candy! Her brother and sister came home with quite enough to share and then some.

As for the cars, we have them too and actually prefer that they come all in one load. It reduces the traffic. We don't have sidewalks in most of our neighborhoods so everyone drives. We also don't have nice neat square blocks. You walk here and you'd better be wearing hiking boots and reflective tape!

For once I bought just enough candy. The last kiddie got the last candy.

Tony! I know all about avelox as I am terribly allergic to it. Gave me a nice case of hives that didn't go away for a week after I took it for two days! I itched even after the hives couldn't be seen any more. The doc that gave it to me said that it isn't penicillin or even related to it(as in grown/synthisized as a derivative), but that it is "chemically similar" to penicillin. I'm highly allergic to penicillin too. Still can't figure out what possessed the man to prescribe the avelox. It did get rid of the infection though! (the cure was much worse than the cause )

I've gotta go complain to the phone company! I changed our services about a week ago and signed up on dsl. Haven't gotten the equipment yet so I checked the order online. They claim I ordered the service I already had. Uhhhhhh, okay, hmmm, why would I reorder services I already had? On top of that there is so much noise on my line that it gives me a headache if I try to talk on it.

Maybe I can catch up here tomorrow.........

Good morning all:

It is 37º right now heading for a sunny 70º this afternoon.

My body is not adjusting well to this time change. I sure wish they'd leave it alone! I go to bed too early and I get up too early...

I think Brent and I are driving to Lowe's in Springfield today since it is going to be so nice and the price of gas is down to $2.39 a gallon.

We have icicle lights that go across the front of the house for Christmas and they are having a sale on them at Lowe's. We have a credit there from the fencing we returned so we are going to get enough lights to go down both sides of the house.

Brent has been waking up early too. Yesterday, he had his breakfast finished and started school at 7:00!

Of course, going to Springfield usually involves lunch at Sonic. We didn't get to go the last time because Brent went to Wisconsin and broke his arm.

Morning all:

This is the day the Lord has made! We WILL rejoice and BE GLAD in it!

It was foggy and frosty when we got up this morning. It was strange to have thick fog that was icy...LOL
It took Vivian a little longer than usual to get to work this morning, but she made it....FINALLY!

Hoping to get some things done today. I got a call from my mom yesterday, and she's not coming this weekend. She, too, is ill with a bacterial infection and sounds really bad. She's missed two days of work, and will miss the rest of the week according to her doctor. So...the trip is out for now.

Sue, have a good trip to Springfield.

This time change is making me wake up an hour earlier every day. Hope I adjust soon.

Good Morning Everyone!

Ever have one of those days when there was so much to do that you didn't know where to start? Well that's the way it is here at the Menagerie. Sue, thank goodness my body is doing the same as yours, cause it's giving me an extra bit of time to get things done! I've changed the sheets in my room, have a load of dishes running through, and started the laundry. The kids went to school early so they could eat breakfast there. So I've got them and T out the door already.

I have no phone service! Last night I saw a truck out working on the transmission box that leads into our neighborhood and thought "Oh good, they're getting the noise off my line". Well they got it off all right. So well that now I don't even have a dial tone. I've been promised it'll be fixed by 6 pm. Hope nobobdy needs me before then.

Ya'll have a good day. I left a low sugar pumpkin cake with cream cheese frosting(also low sugar) on the counter for your enjoyment. I'm not back to baking yet but T is.

Hi folks,

A busy Coffee House crew, as usual.
I will go tomorrow and have blood drawn for the regularly scheduled tumor-marker test. Find out next thursday what the numbers are. After the radiation treatments, the number went from 36 to 50. But the Dr said not to be too concerned because a "flare" in the number is common after treatment. So we're praying that it will be well below 36 this time.

My big news for today is I bought a new car! Mine was from the previous century(!) and was starting to have some problems that were going to be expensive to fix.

So, with lots of prayer, 2 visits to the dealer (one to look at cars and one to get a price on the trade-in), several emails via the internet, and 2 phone calls, we made a deal, and I am thrilled! It really was easy, and I had put it off a long time because of the dread of the buying process.

I will get the new one next week. It was SO exciting to see how God worked out all the details...from the price of the new car, to the ease of the buying process, to the price for my trade-in! He really IS in control of every little detail of our lives!

CJ: Good news about the car! My car is 10 years old and hubby's truck is 16 years old. Both run good, so we'll keep them until the maintenance starts costing more than new (used) vehicles would cost. It takes a while to save up because we don't buy anything on credit...

It is going to be a beautiful, sunny, 72º day today and I think Brent and I will go on a leaf collecting expedition. We were going to rake and blow our own leaves today, but the wind is blowing at 20/30mph so that is out of the question!

Good morning!

It's the day after my car purchase, and I STILL think I got a good deal, I have no second thoughts and no regrets! That's a good sign!

BB, I got a Toyota Camry (which has been my "dream car" for the last few years). Traded in a '99 Taurus. I wouldn't call it a "klunker", though. It was a really good car, but was starting to have some problems that were going to cost some bucks to fix. And when I started looking at the resale and/or trade-in value, I decided it was time to do something else.

The other "decision-maker" was the fact that I don't work on cars myself, and I really don't have a good mechanic that I trust completely to work on it and get it right. So when my car starts needing work that's a little more extensive than oil changes, tune-ups, recommended mileage maintenance, A/C, tires, batteries and wiper blades, I tend to start thinking about a new one! (I had a couple of "major" repairs done, it hasn't been right since, and I don't have the time or the stamina to keep taking it back to get it right.)

In the meantime, a friend and I are having an "estate sale" this weekend! It's Friday and Saturday, and we have some really nice things to sell...hope it goes as well as we are expecting!

Day 4 of transit strike.

Now I know in the old union days (my daddy was a Teamster) this was about workers' rights. But when the union's main complaint is that the transit authority is wanting to have the employees actually make a contribution to their health care premiums instead of getting it free, I think that goes beyond fair.

Besides, when a union strikes against XYZ widget Company, it hurts the owner and the stockholders (that's the idea), and the customers can get their widgets elsewhere. Well, in this situation, thousands of people, the riders, get hurt because the few rail lines there are can only service relatively few of the people who are forced to seek other means of getting to work, school, the doctor, etc. Many of them have no other means, and can be out of work because of it.

I am the only driver in my family, so you know what I've been doing. Missed my train this morning because I had to drop my daughter off, and then try to find street parking near the train station. Praise the Lord my employer is flexible, but I am sure there are many who are not.

Debby, I know you are frustrated. Unions can be both good and bad. I'm surprised there is still someone in this country that doesn't contribute to their own health care. We pay nearly $500 a month for health and dental and that is just our part. The university pays at least that much or maybe more on our behalf. However, every time health rates go up and our salaries don't we have a problem. Last year, or the year before we took a $100 a month pay cut because of the increase in health insurance. Not fun! So I do understand the problem/fear the transit workers have with this issue. I hope for everyone's sake they get the strike settled soon.

Guess what good thing happened here this morning? Son outgrew a pair of pants! I know most of you think this is probably a bad thing, but Son hasn't grown ANY this year because of some of the medication he is on. So when he pulled on his favorite pair of pants and they were an inch to short, we celebrated! This is a first indication that the new meds are offsetting the side effects of the old meds(he is still on the old meds too). Yay!

Good Afternoon, everyone! Boy, when I check in late, I miss all the excitement.

A new Car WOW! But did you have to remind me that mine was bought in another century? Of course you didn't know that did you? My car will be 10 years old next year.

Debbie, we have buses in our city, but none come into our neighborhood. But I have never figured out how to get anywhere on the bus. My grandchildren used to laugh at me because before they could drive, they would take the bus and go all over town.

MK that is great news about your son.

Sue, the wind is blowing here also and Muffin is concerned about all the leaves moving around.

It is a beautiful day, but very windy.

My favorite jewelry store is having open house tonight for ladies only by special invitation for a free showing of their new Christmas jewelry. They are actually picking up guests in limousines. NO, I'm not going. I thought it best to decline.

My wedding ring, watch, one pair of earrings are all I need.

Evening all!

I finally got home a little after 7 PM, after waiting in line for a train for a hour and a half. Seems that on top of the aforementioned transit strike, they had power problems with the Amtrak lines that some of the commuter trains share. I was seriously considering the merits of going back up and sleeping in my cubicle.

But I'm glad I came home. Nothing like your own quilt to snuggle in. Hope tomorrow they put all the plugs in, or whatever the problem was.

Uh oh, I'm talking to myself again. Oh well...

Good morning all:

It is a pleasant 53º this morning and we are going to have another sunny day with the temp reaching 70º again.

My oldest grandson, Bobby (Pastor Bob's son) was using a nail gun at work yesterday morning and nailed his hand to a board. He had to have emergency surgery as the head of the nail was buried. They're not sure if the nail went through the bone yet. Please say a prayer for him. He turns 22 today and is working two jobs to save money (he is getting married December 9th) and will be off work for a while.

He is a member of the BB. His user name is Blessed Hope Boy but he hardly ever gets to post because he doesn't have a computer.

Coffee smells good this morning. I think I'll have a cup!

Got in OK today, although late - 9:30. The reason had nothing to do with the trains. After I dropped my daughter off where she teaches elementary Art & Home Ec, she rang my cell phone to ask me to go back home and pick up the bag of potatoes she needed for the cooking class today. GRR! After doing that, I went to the train station, only to see the train pull out as I was walking up from where I had to park 2 blocks away.

But at least the ride was pleasant. Did one of those sudoku puzzles that are all the rage now. Careful if you try them, they are addictive! But great for sharpening your logic skills (a good thing for a programmer, yes?).

Any of you folks' kids or grandkids like thinking puzzles? I hear some teachers are using these, and the kids love it!
