COMMON GROUND COFFEE HOUSE #88

Now a questions for you, people? Why does a woman scream when she sees a mouse?
The mice startle us more than actually scaring us. We usually see something darting, out of the corner of our eye, and we either scream or jump.

That's the same reason elephants are afraid of mice. A mouse will startle them because they don't know what it is and sense danger.

Teen-age boys: tattoos, body piercings, hair-do's, drinking, drugging - need I say more?

Ok, enough lessons for today. I've got to get some work done and I'm trying DESPERATELY not to go outside in this zero degree weather!

Pastor Bob may start his trip today instead of tonight. In Kansas, they are calling for 1-3 inches of snow today and 2-4 additional inches tonight. It would be very dangerous to drive this far in 7 inches of snow - still steadily falling, especially with everyone being tired tonight...

We've got 22" on the level and it is still snowing. Me and Mr. Snowshovel got our workout in for the day...around the house, a 300' path from the house to the church, the doors at church and the education center...

I think I hear the sound of a nap in the not-so-distant future.

I was just teasing ya' Gina L. Fine piece of writing Ms. Tonemeister...

Thankful

Gina, you are so interesting - creative, intelligent, funny! And a radical on top of that! Just this brief time I have been blessed to be your teacher. You have enriched my life - Thank You
Gina, I just read this. I will agree with your teacher and say that you have enriched our lives also. I think that it is wonderful that you have a teacher that recognizes your abilities.

And...we scream because they're mice. MICE! Beady little eyes, little white tail, sharp little pointed teeth, and they fit anywhere and move fast. UGH! I've never had mice inside a home, but I had a freaky maintenance guy at an apt I lived at leave a dead one for me, wrapped in a towel.

I wonder if someone makes some kind of sound frequency thing that would scare them away? Maybe it wouldn't be good for Muffin though. Or a scent! I bet with some research, you could find out a scent that mice perceive as dangerous, and it would at least help keep them under control and not as willing to come inside. Maybe even a certain kind of lighting would help, especially in the kitchen.

I'd be afraid of them biting me in my sleep. Is Muffin opposed to cats? You could always tell him the new cat is his pet!

That's what I was thinking Gina, that Muffin needed a kitty for Christmas this year!

Hey Ya'll!

I've gotten next to nothing done today except for running around(and replacing last night's new microwave after we found the paint was cracked and chipping inside).

Now I'm doing more research on my issues with the school. This time they have pooh poohed my idea that Son is not doing as well as he should be and is even doing worse now than he was at the beginning of the school year when he had a constant migraine. He is having reading comprehesion issues, can't spell worth a flip even when I help him study, and is having more and more problems with vocabulary(and this is totally new, he's always had an excellent vocabulary). Somehow the school thinks that it is okay for an intelligent kid to make C's and D's when he is capable of making A's and B's. I want him evaluated in these areas but know that if I don't know the exact tests I want him evaluated with they will simply observe him in the classroom and decide he doesn't need anything further. Honestly, it is something all the time with this system.

Oh my favorite comment his teacher made when I complained was that a D is still considered passing! (where is that fainting greamlin?)

Anyhow, when I get tired of looking for the info I need I have to sew some and take the kids to karate and maybe cook supper!

Ya'll enjoy your snow!

Cindi

Thankful

Gina, I have one of those high frequency things and it is supposed to be safe for pets. I did have it on, but didn't want to take a chance of it bothering Muffin. He does not like cats, but he is a pretty good mouser himself.

I don't know why we have so many mice. The open fields are at least four blocks away. Muffin's dry food may attract them.

So far we just have a trace of snow, but it is snowing harder now, but it should end soon.

Muffin loves the snow, but he is asleep right now.

And we scream because we go out in the garage and hear a GREAT big rustling!!!
Turned out to be a little Mickey Mouse field mouse in a dog food bag.
We set out traps but we also plugged in a little device that is supposed to emit a sound unpleasant to mice that humans cannot hear. Got it at the local farm supply store. No sign of mice since then.

Whew! I got my grocery shopping all done deli meats and cheeses, fresh fruits and veggies, hoagie buns, olives and pickles, after I got my coat back from the cleaners. I'm not gonna say what I spent, but Dale will be working overtime for awhile...

I made my Grape Salad and Red Salad tonight. Tomorrow, after our breakfast company leaves, I will make the potato salad, dirty pickles and bake the hams. Brent and I will cut up the veggies for the relish tray.

Then it's off to the rehearsal supper.

After I haul everything to the Women's Club Friday morning, I am hoping to be able to take a nap before the wedding that night.

Going to bed folks.

Pleasant dreams all!

Got a break in the weather. It ain't supposed to snow again until morning. Ended up with a bit over two feet. I'd take 2' of snow over 1/2 inch of ice any day.

Now if I can get that old snowmobile started.....

I heard somewhere recently that soaking cotton balls with peppermint oil and placing them around in bowls was supposed to keep those nasty little mices away.

Would be worth a try!!

Good morning all:

We're having a heat wave, it's 14 this morning! We will start getting our additional 1-3 inches of snow around noon.

Pastor Bob and family arrived safely from Kansas. I have kids and grandkids driving in from Wisconsin today, and Indiana tomorrow. I'm excited!!!

I need a cup of coffee!

I got a reprieve! :D

It is snowing so hard, it looks like a blizzard and we already have 4 inches on the ground with no sign of a let-up in sight. I believe 6-7 inches is called for before nightfall.

Pastor Bob doesn't want us to have to drive 2 hours in this tonight, so he has someone (who is actually in the wedding) coming by to pick up the hams.

We get to stay home in a nice toasty house!

We had some great fellowship at the brunch I fixed this morning! It sure was good to see Pastor Bob and family!

Now I can take a much-needed nap this afternoon!

Sue, sounds as if things are going great even with the snow. I sure it is beautiful, but no fun to drive in. We didn't get much snow, but some still on the ground, but it is cold. Actually, it was warmed to 27 degrees.

It was about 6 degrees this morning.

Been a lazy day here. I have been catching up on some paper work and am looking at the Christmas cards. Why can't they address themselves?

Already had my nap. Now it is time to cook supper.

I know Sue you are having fun with all your family there.

Has anyone heard from Jim1999?

Good afternoon!

Frozen solid here in the DFW area. Got down to about 18° last night, but we DIDN'T call it a "heat wave"...we called it a "winter blast"! I guess it's all in your perspective!
laugh.gif
I'm really not used to SUCH cold temps here. Rarely gets below 25° or so.

Had the day off today as the roads were pretty iced over. Sorta suspected yesterday that might happen, so brought some stuff home to work on today. Got LOTS done...things that I've needed to do for several weeks but just never got them done due to all the interruptions. I feel really good about being mostly caught up!

Have you ever seen frozen plants? :D I had 3 hanging baskets outside that I kept thinking I needed to bring in, but just never did. When I got home yesterday afternoon, they were frozen. I thought, "Awww...how pretty" cause they were still perky, but just frozen. I brought them in and they hadn't been inside 15 minutes when they just totally wilted. :( I guess they won't come back, huh? Oh well...maybe I can salvage a little piece of them and they'll grow back from that. I hope so...they were actually rather special to me.

Expecting another "heat wave" tonight...possibly down to 14°! But supposed to warm up to 45° during the day tomorrow. Now THAT'LL be a heat wave!

Evening all:

Busy, busy, busy! I don't know how much snow we got, but the sidewalk has been shoveled twice and we can't see it again...

1 degree tonight and tomorrow night, then it will warm up to 13 with more snow! Yuck!

Schools are closing for tomorrow because the buses won't be able to get through and it's too cold for the kids (who don't ride the bus) to walk to school.

Shawna is back in Illinois, safe and sound, with her two girls. Brandy (Vern's wife) and their four kids (from Wisconsin) are about two hours away. The roads are terrible! What usually takes them five hours to drive is taking them eight.

Laura will be coming in with her three boys tomorrow from Indiana.

Pastor Bob was out in the blizzard - changing a flat tire on his van. He wasn't real pleased because he was freezing, but he was still cheerful and praising the Lord.

Pleasant dreams all!
