Philip and the Ethiopian Eunuch.

it's not always possible to disciple the people we win.

for example, my friend won a guy to the Lord in an airport at 2Am. The man was a 21 year old chinese guy going to Beijing, my friend was going to Zambia.

I've found with many converts, it's really hard to get them to want to go through discipleship.

seems like every time I try to do a bible study Satan has some excuse or activity for them.

Perhaps the people I am winning are not being saved.

but my point is, especially in America with our entertainment fast paced society, it is really hard to disciple people, especially if they aren't motivated.

This is so true. People these days more often than not do not want discipleship. If they refuse discipleship they are probably false converts. I know this goes against your Arminian soteriology Jordan, but have you ever read anything by Paul Washer? He will speak all about what a true convert is and what a false one is.

I think his books will help you in your evangelism.

When I was a boy my mother said if I didn't go to church Iwas going to hell...it's a mortal sin to not go. Do you agree?

No. But the Bible says not to quit going to church.

Heb. 10:25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

I haven't quit going to church...I just think most of them are inadequate for teaching and edifying. I want much more....like to be challenged by something....not same old same old.

The RCC might say that - but as we know the RCC is wrong on many points.

Why go to church, of course Heb 10:25 has been mentioned.
In addition - why did the Apostle Paul see it necessary to start many churches.

And I agree with you! In many churches people simply attend for many inadequate reasons. ie social status, do-my-duty, see my friends.
How many attend mega churches just so they can get lost in the crowd - and not have any responsibilities?

as far as challenged learning - how many actually study the SS lesson? How many are clock watchers.
Do we actually have proper self-discipline to want to learn?

You may have actually hit on a very important point.

EWF,

It is fruitless to try to argue with you. We have given you Bible. We have given you some practical ideas. But you have your own ideas regardless of what the Bible says and teaches.

So why is there a lousy Baptist church that's pretty much dead in .....Ahhh forget it. Only know this, my own blood brother, who was a pastor at one time is forced to drive for an hour to get to a church that he feels will adequately feed him and his family....so he agrees with me it's a void area. He could care less though...he accepts the commute. I'm the one who agonized about the area. Why, cause it's my home and I want Christ here.....here, not 45 to 50miles away. You know what happens to people who don't have Christ in their lives??? I do....come to NW nj and find out.

You have given me nothing. The gospel was given to me by the Holy Spirit. And there is where my ideas are shaped...by study and by spiritual support.

EWF,
the last 2 churches I have attended were not much more than a social club.
When I tried to encourage evangelism and teaching - I was met with resistance.

IMHO - the challenge to overcome - is the leadership - actually the lack of it.

So Paul Washer is right up there with God when it comes to judging people's souls? Shameful.

John 6:44-No man can come to me unless the father first draws him.

It's Gods job to draw converts and the elect. It's our job to preach the message. After they are saved then we can disciple.

Matthew 28:19-20 (NASB)
19 "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,
20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."

I don't know...it seems that we are to make disciples of others. (I know what you mean, but Scripture does not always....if ever....make that distinction when it comes to evangelism).

More specifically I was a member of those churches. And yes, I did get bounced out.

Right now, I am just seeking where the Lord wants me.

Alas that is more common these days. So what do you want to do now....do you have a hankering for ministry....and do you still have the energy.

God has been sifting me and prodding me....at times, very forcefully....opening my eyes.....but I resist.

Yes & YES! I candidated at a church two weeks ago. They have invited two other to preach. So I am waiting to see what may come about.
