If there is a CONDITION that man has the choice to meet, then the human will has just cooperated with the Holy Ghost in the work of regeneration. Period.

I just moved into our new house a couple of years ago. I paid a builder to build it. A condition for the builder to build my house was that I sign a contract to pay him. But he built it, I didn't. I simply met the condition HE required for HIM to do all the WORK. See the difference? Now, if I had worked on the house with him by doing the framing or bricking or whatever then I would have 'cooperated with him in the work of building the house.' I didn't, I merely asked him to do His work. Now, if you want to lump in asking some else to do work with you actually working, that is your business, but I doubt any objective person would equate those too.

Why? Why the resistance to being defined as a synergist?
I really didn't resist being defined as a "synergist" per say, I simply rejected that particular definition.

Those who misunderstand calvinism.....think in fatalistic terms like islam would. This is mis-guided. Heralds post was right on the money.

And again, the calvinists call the regular Christians stupid.

If education would make me arrogant, then i wish to remain "misguided"

Well...lets see:
from A Baptist Cathechism with Commentary...by WR. Downing...used by permission:thumbs::thumbs:

IMHO

Your problem, as with most Calvinists, is that you put too much trust and faith in 'confessions", "Cathechism's" and men like Luther and Calvin.

Why dont you just try the Bible?

1. So Calvinists are not "regular Christians"?
2. Who have we called stupid? Any documentation?
3. No one should want to be misguided. The "misguided" in the quote was those that misrepresent Calvinism.

It would be refreshing if we all could post our views without resorting to demeaning the "other side." We are all on the same side. We are believers. And even more than that, we are all baptist. We differ on some views which is why we debate, but let's not treat some as lesser.

I agree with you

But time after time it is the Calvinist that says that us regular Christians dont understand the Bible, which infers that we are spiritually stupid.

And yes, i am just a 'regular' Christian because i chose to answer the call to salvation as put forth in the Bible.

Calvinists are 'special' Christians because they were chosen by God and didnt have to make a choice

Sorry if you thought I was turning your post into something else. That wasn't my attempt. I was trying to make a funny about the man who lost his glass eye after being baptized every time he was "saved".

I understand the intended joke, just not going to let it slide by, Iconoclasts post was an accurate description, so all the thumbs and applause response are a reaction to an innacurate post by skan. As I said, one time it is a gift, the next it is within mans ability so he says. Both sides of the fence being played...twisting, turning, dodging, things along those lines.

Perhaps you think you made a choice, but simply recognized you were chosen and saved.

1. It's imply not infer. ;) The person speaking implies, the person listening infers. :)

2. Again, you are implying(and I'm inferring what you said ;)) that Calvinists are not "regular" Christians. Calvinist are regular Christians just as you are a "regular" Christian.

3. Calvinist should then be humble because we didn't' do anything to cause God to choose us.

I'm not sure what you are asking.

You said Calvinists should be humble because God chose them, Michael is asking you what attitude those billions of people God has passed over should have.

I have actually seen Calvinists say that these "passed over" folks should be happy knowing that they are bringing glory to God.

Calvinism turns all definitions on their head. In the OT, to be "passed over" meant to be saved, to the Calvinist it means to be lost.

Calvinists never seem to recognize this.
