Dr. Phil warns about dire health consequences of shutdown

Way to go Dr. Phil!!

He's taking a lot of flack for this, but absolutely nailed it. As the President and many others have been saying, we have to open the country or the cure will be more deadly than the disease.

Many are virtual signaling about their sacrifice, but these are usually those not significantly impacted by the shutdown. Celebrities for instance. But those truly suffering, often have no voice, and are shouted down if they dare speak up.

We hear from infectious disease experts, but never these experts. This needs to change. Major props to Dr. Phil for using his platform. He's going to take a beating.

I believe he got the swimming pool stat, wrong. Just misspoke.

Puh-leeze. Wild-eyed man repeats illogical argument:

"Forty-five thousand people die of car accidents, 480,000 from cigarettes, 360,000 from swimming pools each year but we don't shut the country down for this."

Driving cars is a choice. So is smoking cigarettes. Going swimming is a choice. Catching the coronavirus because you touched the filing cabinet handle at work--not a choice.

"Loneliness actually creates problems. People that 'suffer' from loneliness are 29% more likely to have coronary heart disease. We think we are saving people's lives by keeping them locked up?"

Yeah, sure, Phil. No one's "locked up". Go outside. Go for a drive. Pick up your telephone and call someone if you're lonely. Visit your neighbor (from 6 feet away.)

What a bunch of hooey.

You guys are buying this while 2,500 people a day are dying.

This whole "if you dont agree with me that means you want people to die" attitude the doom and gloomers yell about is dishonest and childish.

If you believe this whole thing is worth destroying the economy and peoples lives then just admit it. I do not believe one is worse than the other.

We can save tens of thousands of lives from car wrecks if we just drop the speed limit to 10 miles per hour. But even the result of doing that is not worth it.

I still remember those 55mph days. :)

I pray our President and governors make wise balanced decisions on this. I don't think we're yet at the point of no return, but we're getting there. Economic depression is nothing to play around with. It's not a mere inconvenience.

LOL! I knew the virtual signalers would get triggered by this. They only want to hear from the experts that support their views.

Triggered? More like tired of hearing silly comparisons between being in a car accident and coronavirus or smoking cigarettes and coronavirus. They are not remotely comparable.

You're right. Economic depression is much worse, particularly for kids. You and the dems are playing with fire. Once you realize it may also affect you, you'll change your tune.

You don't know what my tune is and you are claiming I will change it. I'm all for opening up the economy. I applaud Trump's outline presented yesterday as a template for the states to use. I couldn't find a thing I disagreed with.

Proceed with caution, though. Start by opening up businesses that don't require crowds of people in confined spaces. One example: golf courses. Here in Minnesota the lake resort owners got together and have new policies in place to rent cabins that are COVID-19 safe. Didn't require a government entity to tell them how to do it. I'm sure there are dozens and dozens of other businesses that could open.

I don't see why some restaurants couldn't open with half the tables in place and spaced six feet apart. So what if the server wears a mask?

On the other hand, I've got a dental appointment next Thursday I won't be attending.

I'm not going to read anything by Rush Limbaugh or Dr. Phil and expect to find anything other than thinly disguised entertainment.[/QUOTE]

Well, you've definitely turned the corner on Trump, at least. You and I agree on a lot. You know I've never dismissed this epidemic. But I have to say, I'm a bit baffled why you're so cynical on Dr. Phil's interview. He made good points, same points Trump is making. He's giving the other side from a different field of expertise, which is rarely heard.

Socialist leaning democrats do not care that much about the capitalistic economy. They like total governmental control, it is why they love China. And they are on the record to replace what we have with the Green New Deal, when asked at one of the debates, they all raised their hands in support.

The reason why I dismiss Dr. Phil is because he makes faulty arguments. You can't compare an activity that a person chooses to participate in, knowing the risks, like dying in a car accident or dying from smoking cigarettes, with dying from COVID-19. It's so illogical and dumb that it taints anything he says afterwards. No one chooses to participate in COVID-19.

As far as Trump goes I've always said I agreed with most of his positions, just couldn't vote for a man of his character. I've also always said let's see what he does, not what he says. I admit I've been more than pleased. I will likely vote for him in November.

Fine. We don't shut the country down because of the flu.

Enough of this charlatan. He is only slightly better than Jerry Spinger, the man who had a likewise parade of human debris.
