I used to be a sportswriter for a newspaper.

Using this argument, no one should buy a Monday paper.

You cause the newspaper staff to have to work on Sunday.

Were you forced to miss church due to working? Did this not bother you if so?

I was able to attend on Wednesdays. Yes, it did bother me, but I was putting myself through school. I had three jobs, working 60 hours a week. I had to pay the bills.

But, if the logic for eating out is good, then should anyone buy a paper on Mondays?

    What about Christian:

    Police
    Firefighters
    Doctors
    EMT's
    Border Patrol
    Military Personnel

I'm glad they work on Sundays and are able to find places to eat during their shift.

So basically, what I'm hearing is that not working on Sundays is simply an outdated romantic notion that has no value anymore, right?

Would you consider Scripture and these verses specifically, as one of the "excuses"? How about, then, as to what "Alot (sic) of people think..."? Doesn't this say something about that? Seems to me it does.

    How about these?

You did see the bit about "sabbaths" there in Col 2:16, right? Any other questions??

Actually, I have. I'm a farmer, and guess what? The cows have exactly the same appetite on a Saturday or a Sunday as on a Tuesday or a Wednesday. And BTW, if they get out on a Sunday, it ain't usually to "go to church"!

Do your cows force you to regularly skip church and work all day? I'm guessing not. Why? Because I grew up in a farming community. My grandfather raised cows, we built our house in a cow pasture, fencing them off of course. The people across the road from me farmed cows. The people on the farm behind me raised cows. Cows cows and more cows everywhere, thousands of acres. You know what? Every one of those guys were always in both Sunday school and church and was around for fellowships afterwards.

Obviously my biggest problem isn't the fact that any work is done on a Sunday, it's the fact that I don't want to be a part of forcing people to skip church for no good reason other than my own pleasure.

But you haven't refuted what I thought was a very good point:

Sunday AM is not the only time that "church" happens.

What if you go another time? Doesn't that "count?"

But, corndoggy, how do you know that all church people require that no work be done by anyone on Sundays ?
So you see, what you're doing is putting blame on everybody.
If you personally know the church people that makes you work because they come to your place of work on Sundays to eat out with their families and you personally know that their doctrine is that no work be done on Sundays, then confront them. That's fair.

But to complain here in the Baptist Board like everybody here thinks it is sinful to work on Sundays is unfair.

Quite honestly I thought that all baptists were at least "supposed" to think that you shouldn't work on Sundays if you can keep from it.

Also wanted to point out that I haven't been in this situation in over 10 years, just wondered what other people thought.

Eating out is optional. Medical, police and fire protection are essential services.

That said, didn't Jesus have something to say about those who were overly strict about working on the sabbath. Yes, I know Sunday is not the sabbath, but serves that purpose in the majority of Christendom.

How many watch TV or listen to radio on Sunday? You are making the staff of those businesses work on Sunday by creating demand for the services.

I don't think there is a "Baptist Pope" telling people what they are "supposed" to think.
