Eight Years of Iraq War Cost Less Than Stimulus Act

Who cares as long as the American tax payer is there to foot the bill. The stimulus primarily went into Wall Street so the fat cats could keep their mansions & yachts in Greenwich Ct. It costs allot to maintain that "Too Big To Fail" Lifestyle.

A huge difference is the Iraq war has cost thousands of American lives and untold thousands of Iraqi lives. No way the two can be compared. I'd rather the government spend money trying to help people than to spend money killing people.

Remember Matthew 5:9 says: Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

A hard saying from Jesus that Iraq war apologists would like to remove from the Bible..

If you see two people fighting, would you be a peacemaker if you stopped them from fighting? Or would a peacemaker sit on the side lines and watch them duke it out?

By removing Saddam from power we were peacemakers. You can't seriously sit here and tell me that that area would be more peaceful with Saddam still in power, can you?

One difference, the war in Iraq was a mistake. Or should I say a calculated error by the Bush administration.

So was the stimulus. The stimulus was a most foolish idea that is based upon defunct theories of economics. We spent billions to stimulate the economy and to reward the Big Wall Street execs. This was most foolish.

Ah, yes...the "Bush lied, people died." Haven't seen that one in a while.

Remember...your argument, CTB, can be used to say that WWII was an unjust war as well. (And no, I'm not comparing the two...just pointing out how playing fast and loose with Scripture can backfire on you).

I think it is wrong analogy. You can't compare the waste of tax payer money in the stimulus boondoggle with the money and human cost of the Iraq war.

With that said, I believe that the war was right and proper. President Bush just had the courage to do what previous administrations (Presidents G.H.W. Bush and Clinton) didn't have the willingness to do. We had been saying since even before the 1st Gulf War that a regime change ought to be affected in Iraq, but lacked the political will.

Complete your implication with a Yes or No---- Should our government rule according to biblical principles?

:thumbs::thumbs: BTW, The question above is a trick question. How did Christ handle them?

I absolutely despise when people take scripture out of context and twist it for their own personal agendas. I don't really agree with the Iraq war, but that quotation and application of Matthew 5:9 is haphazard at best and plain dishonest at worst.

Are you saying that Christ did not mean peacemaking is good.

We either take Christ teachings seriously or we are only mouthing that we trust in him and his teachings.

Did he not say that those who live by the sword will die by the sword?

Is it not a perversion of his teachings to say you trust and believe in him and his words and yet advocate what he never advocated?

Can you show me where he praised war hawks? Where he commanded anyone to kill others?

Did Christ make peace with the Sadducee and the Pharisee or the Herodians? No, when they hounded him he gave them what for every time.

It is interesting that when Roman soldiers asked Jesus his commands for them that he never told them not to kill in service of their country.

Luke 3:13-15 - And he said to them, "Collect no more than what you have been ordered to." 14Some soldiers were questioning him, saying, "And what about us, what shall we do?" And he said to them, "Do not take money from anyone by force, or accuse anyone falsely, and be content with your wages." 15Now while the people were in a state of expectation and all were wondering in their hearts about John, as to whether he was the Christ,

God certainly told the people of Israel to kill everyone in the cities where they took over.

These leftists want to enjoy the freedom that soldiers paid for, but want to maintain some false high moral ground that they would never kill anyone because they believe in Jesus.

A few years ago a leftist told me that the time he spent in a hospital doing his Conscientious Objector's duty in a stateside hospital was as hard on him as any soldier's duty. As Bugs Bunny used to say, "What a maroon."

You show you don't have a clue what I just wrote. Jesus did not utter that so some leftist in 2010 could condemn war. Jesus isn't saying a single thing about how society should handle foreign affairs. He isn't speaking to society there, He isn't getting politcal, He does not give you one thing you can use. Jesus is speaking to one group of people and only one group of people - His disciples. He is speaking to them on a personal basis.

If you had actually read what I wrote you would have noticed that I wish we weren't in Iraq at this time. I wish our boys weren't over there getting killed. To me, that war was a bad move. I also do not advocate war. War is horrible. At the same time, we live in an evil world and war is a present reality, unfortunately. I look forward to the day when the Lord Jesus returns from heaven to end all the sin, suffering, wickedness, and wars once and for all. Having said all that, I absolutely abhor using scripture for political ends, particularly when it misuses the actual scripture.

Could God in His sovereignty brought down this proud dictator?

He did.

I do have to agree with CTB, I know it doesn't happen often, but a peacemaker is much better than a war monger. The war was a correct action at the time, mismanaged by Bush and Obama, and now time to bring em home. We are now involved in nothing more than a Police action, something the military is neither trained nor equiped to do.
