Female Chaplains

Suppose you were stationed overseas at a medium to small base. There were two Protestants chaplains, a mainline Protestant who is female and an IFB.

Suppose they each preach 2x's a month - but both participate in the service. For example the week she preaches - he does the music announcements and other opening activities.

So what would you do? Skip the weeks she preaches or what?

I wouldn't be in the military, for one thing.

But that's not the point.

Since women can serve in any capacity to which God calls them, including pastor, chaplain, whatever, it wouldn't make any difference to me.

I would skip both services since she also preaches in two of them and she is in sin for disobeying the Lord about preaching. I would not set under her leading the singing either since she is in sin.

So for the 2-3 years you would be overseas, you would not attend religious services?

No, I did not say that but that could happen if a place could not be found that was biblical. I said I would not attend the services offered through those two chaplins. I would seek off base or seek to set up one that honored the Lord without a woman leading since she is in sin and rebellion.

I am not sure what you mean by what are my thoughts on the IFB chaplin.

I don't have a problem with female chaplains. They fulfill a needed role for many and often serve in roles which men will not serve.

Keep in mind that generally a Chaplain is free to stay true to his beliefs - but in a case like this he would have to serve with a female. I once talked to a GARBC chaplain overseas - When I asked him what other GARBC pastors back in the States thought of him working with a female chaplain, He told me he just didn't mention that to the folks back home!

I would go to whatever services were available, whether he, or she, were preaching.

The sex of the one preaching is 100% irrelavent.

Yes I believe he would be compromising the pulpit if he served under her in her services such as you mentioned.

You are in sin because of what you said.

One day there will be a lot of shame and repentance by many for this same thing.

Would avoid services there altogether. The chaplaincy, and the services they offer, are not properly considered a local church body IMO, thus, there is no real requirement to associate. I would attempt to find another venue, or even get together with like-minded believers and hold some services. I would hardly distinguish between the services preached by the female chaplain and this IFB (if he could retain that distinction). They both seem complicit in the same error.

When I was in the military service in Canada and oveseas, I was a "protestant" chaplain. We had two types; Roman Catholic and Protestant. The Protestant followed the Church of England,,,all Protestants!

The women in active service, were clerks, nurses and aids, and not in service where they would share battle. Sometimes they faced battle when the enemy attacked hospitals.

It is quite different to-day, and I'm not sure I would even join the military period. I wouldn't want women up front for fear I would be watching out for her safety rather than the action. Not that I am against women by any means. Paul approved of women as biblical. Women served in the Old Testament as well. Those who oppose women serving the Lord are unbiblical and hence the sinful ones. Female missionaries have gone where many men sat on their backsides at home.

As far as female preachers are concerned, I have heard good ones and bad ones, but I have seen the same thing among men.

I agree. I would get together with other women in Bible study and if needed, use the internet to get good teaching.

When I was stationed in (West) Germany from 1967-1969, I only attended one chapel service (and it was advertised as a "Baptist" service at that). While the chaplain was a man, all he did during his sermon was give a book review of something Ernest Hemmingway wrote. However, at the end of his message he did, in fact, give an invitation. Unfortunately, the invitation was only to coffee and donuts after the service. Needless to say, I never again set foot in that so-called "Baptist" chapel service.

Thankfully, God soon led me to an off-base IFB mission for servicemen. Subsequently, this mission organized into an autonomous independent church. When I first joined this mission I was still only a babe in Christ, having been saved only about one year prior to this. But in the two years I was with this mission/church, I probably learned not only more biblical doctrines, but also a lot of practical things about serving in a local assembly than perhaps I would not have learned in over several years.

I thank God for all the true mission works for overseas service people, no matter where they may be located!

Before we knew anything about the post chaplains my bride and I attended a service at a past chapel and the chaplain preaching turned out to be a woman. We left and did not go back. If we were serious about fellowship and being discipled during those days we would have found another option.


My own rebellion at that time did not mean I should support her sinful act of usurping God ordained authority within the Church.
