He didn't. John the Baptist's ministry was restricted to the Jewish people. He publically (if we consider that specific audience to be the public) called for the people to repent.
I think you mean confessing of sins. But here it is confessing sins to other members of the congregation ("to one another").
We publically confess Christ.
I do not have a problem with such symbols as ash on the forehead...many wear crosses for the same reason, or a fish sticker on their car, so I see no room for them to complain.
Just because something is not biblical (like such symbols) does not mean it is wrong. It seems to me that God allows for personal expressions of our faith.
Marking thau on the forehead is biblical as as a sign of repentance and separation from sin.
Maybe some do but others do it as a reminder that physical death is inevitable so pay attention to your soul.
I still occasionally cross myself as a recognition of the Holy Trinity in honor of them.. Father, Son , Holy Spirit. That is truly an outward sign of an inward spirit conviction.

What is it are you so? Are you saying that these people, from the RCC are not saved because they do not conform to your sense of biblical integrity?
That’s enough flailing at a brother… seek first understanding… albeit detestable to you and be humble as our lord was humble. Otherwise it might be you lacking a contrite heart. A good act of contrition might be here in order brother.. just saying.
It is as biblical as Baptists using hymnals (or putting lyrics on screens). It may not be wrong, but it is also not biblical.

We should be in daily repentance, however the Church has a formal ceremony of general repentance and humility on Ash Wednesday once a year. It is a reminder for us as weak human beings that we are but dust. Gn 3:19
Humility is the beginning and necessary component of repentance.
The King of Nineveh covered himself with ash dust on his repentance.
“Bear fruit in keeping with repentance.”
By our repentance, others who see it are heartened and given courage to repent themselves, they see they are not alone in their darkness and shame. But also see a path and a way they can claim mercy.

Really, are you joking or are you doing your best imitation of a temple Pharisee chiding Jesus for not keeping the sabbath? This is a cross imprinted on a persons forehead as a sign, first that the person is indeed a follower of the Christ and also it’s a reminder of a humans true state on this earth… this is not a Spinoza moment that dictates your oneness with the natural world, rather it’s a reminder of just who you are in relationship to G-D, the creator of all things. I personally find it both humbling & I rejoice that my creator will call me back to heaven. Of course, there is more to come.. a promise to walk with Him In eternity. I LIKE THIS REMINDER!

I see no reason why a cross provides a satanic symbol. Rather it’s a symbol of divine suffering & love. FYI, my own personal preference however is the Orthodox metal that claims Christ the conqueror of sin.

No, that is scripture misapplied.
The verse is having those who lament the state of the Jews as they fell into idolatry. Those who were involved in idolatry were to be killed, while those identified as morning for how the nation had fallen were marked out and spared.
If that is the biblical support for marking the forehead of Christians then I have given the Catholics more benefit of the doubt than I should have.
But you contradict your previous post (you linked the sign to repentance, now you link it to morning the state of Israel as a nation fallen into idolatry).
So I have to side with my Catholic friends who engage in the practice to identify with Christ.

All Sin is idolatry, In Colossians and Ezekiel we see the putting to death of all that is not marked by thau/ the Cross.
Jerusalem is symbolic of our own souls.
"But you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem".
The Kingdom is within us in the New Covenant. What happened outwardly in the old covenant prefigured what happens inwardly in the New Covenant.
The Old Testament is the New Testament concealed and the New Testament is the Old Testament revealed as they say.
See how beautiful the covenants are joined, isn’t God wonderful.
