Context...context...context. God also gave specific instructions in building the ark of the covenant which included engraved images. The intent of the Commandment was to prohibit idol worship. Otherwise, there are a lot if sculptors and artists who are living lives of sin.

Repentance of sin is the result of the new birth/salvation and will be part of the sanctification process and our new life with the Lord Jesus Christ, Eph 2:10. While we may sin from time to time after salvation it will not be our practice 1John 3:9,10.

I chronically hear Christians say that God would never command people to go against his word... I really can't believe people that know scripture hold on to that belief... it's easily proven False yet the myth remains strangely prevalent.

God says thou shall not kill and then orders the Israelites to kill many people including women, children, and babies that were without sin.

It is not killing when a government does justice. That does not give license to anyone to kill people.

We now have the bible as a guide so that is the standard. Though we or a church, or a bank, or an angel from heaven says to go against that, they are wrong!

How God doesn't work in one time in history, is how he might work in another way at another time in history.

If a Christian believes they are receiving healing and grace from the mother of God or the souls in heaven , how do you know God is not choosing to bestow Grace on them through his mother or redeemed sanctified souls and angels in heaven....by that means?

We should ask where the healing or grace actually comes from. Can we say that Mary in heaven did it or God? Nowhere does Jesus tell us to pray to angels or people on earth or heaven. While God does work within our faith to some extent, I see no reason people should not know God saves, and that He answers prayer, not dead folks ( well alive folks who we on earth think of as dead, cause they left earth) in heaven.

How do you know God wasn't guiding the church councils that approved of those images? The word of God is not limited to scripture by the way.

It is very biblical that the way God acts one time in history, he can act totally different another time in history... We have a new covenant. Some of what was formerly forbidden is now permitted. God knew that Catholics would become the largest Christian denomination and to be the only denomination for centuries. God knew they would have crucifixes statues and pray to Mary. Yet Jesus never said this bothered him. neither did the other authors of the New Testament. It clearly was not an important issue to them.

A one time event does not make the rule.

Graven images are used by the RCC. You can't call them anything else.

I don't approve of any images:
our Baptist Church has none; no interior or exterior Crosses, either!
(Christ is Risen--why the need for a Cross?).

The Scriptures are definitive: only Church Councils that embraced them
fully had God's Approval.
