You are comparing apples and oranges. One deals with a foreign leader and Congress playing politics for their own gain.
The other is remembering a sad, yea a tragic event in American history. Not the same thing at all.
I doubt many people would have been upset if all the Democrats had attended the speech. I wouldn't have been. But I see their reason for avoiding this political play by the GOP. The GOP and Yahu violated established protocol. shame on them and shame on politicizing foreign policy and aiding another in a foreign election. You, I and just about everyone would be enraged if a foreign power did something like this in an attempt to influence one of our presidential elections.
Both are nothing more than political shows.

Surely you recognize that it was Democrats who were holding these folks back in the Civil Rights era, and now those Democrats are doing all they can to rewrite the history of the events and make themselves look better. It's nothing but a political play.
Sure, there will be some people at the memorial event who are genuinely interested in seeing history properly remembered. But there will also be plenty who will seek to cast political mud on those who do not attend, or on those that they think should not attend.

The Democrats do not have to politicize Selma, the Republicans are doing that by not attending. They are missing a good opportunity to show they are concerned about minority groups, but instead they are insulting them by showing indifference.
You are right historically. It was the Democrats holding these folk back in the Civil Rights Era. But that changed with Nixon establishing the GOP Southern Policy. Now it is the GOP trying to hold them back by denying voting rights, taking away programs that have been in place since WW II, etc. Sad but true though the GOP will never admit it.
That is always true. I have two European friends who will be there out of interest. It will be interesting to find their take on this.
Ironic. Isn't making a big deal out of three Republicans not going politicizing the event?

How many Democrats are not going to be there? How many liberal politicians are skipping this event? Or are you saying every Democrat politician in the US is going to Selma? Are the Democrats who aren't going not likewise "insulting" minorities by skipping the event?

If he thinks they would be warmly welcomed he's smoking more of the liberal talking points than I thought he was. I am sure Rose and Hank Sanders would love to have them over for tea, Not!!!! Maybe Alvin Holmes will ask them to make a speech or one of the local black congregations will ask them to speak at their church on Sunday morning. Fat chance!!

Don't know how many Democrats are going, but obviously some are.
Those who do not attend are IMHO insulting the minorities and also those who opposed racial segregation in Selma. But it is not every Democratic member as it is with the GOP
You may remember the GOP leadership also did not attend the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King's "I have a dream" speech in 2013.

Good for them! They've shown a lot of backbone to oppose AIPAC's designs, which is REALLY the entity being upset here, not these congressmen's constituents. Crabby's right on that one.
Not for sure about the count yet, but seven or eight of these are Jews that boycotted the political charade.

You gotta stop playing these political games, CTB. Sag38 was right, you know? None of these GOP members would be welcomed at such an event. Doesn't matter what their personal convictions are. The left has played such a masterful game at rewriting history that they convinced massive portions of the minority population that Conservatives hate them. That's not true, and you know it. But it plays a nice political message and it drives people to vote.

Sad but true.
I think that outside of John Lewis who was actually there 50 years ago, the politicians who are there for the right reason, won't try to put themselves in the spotlight.
It would be cool to see House and Senate Democrats and Republicans show up unannounced and just be part of the crowd .
Unfortunately, the GOP members run the risk of appearing as hypocrites there to commemorate Selma and voting rights while not supporting legislation to restore a voting rights act provision nullified by the SCOTUS in 2013.

Things like ISIS is why people aren't gonna care about those emails. And like with Obama, this might backfire because people are gonna start to think that the GOP is more concerned with emails than the things that matter to them.
I tell you that the GOP is on the sidelines with the Hillary thing--it is coming from the left wing of the Democrat Party or maybe even Obama settling old scores.
At any rate, I can't think that the GOP would even be welcome at the Selma event.

Not particularly. I don't expect the president to stop being the president just because it's close to election time. Why would I expect Netanyahu to stop being PM?
