Keith, the unbelief being referred to above is that of Jesus Christ. In other words, it is "rejecting" the Holy Spirit's convictions, therefore sentencing the person to an eternity in hell.Originally posted by KeithS:
To back up a few posts - just curious why we call "unbelief" sin? If I do not "believe" a co-worker or a friend, it is not a sin. Why is it sin if I do not "believe" God? What if I do not "believe" in a literal Genesis? Is faulty biblical interpretation sin?
I guess I thought that failure to believe was not the "sin" that sends us to hell. All of our sins, including our sin nature, sends us to hell unless we believe.
This is thought, by many, to be the unforgiveable sin. The sin of blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. Therefore, we do know that it is a sin to ignore the Holy Spirit and if we continue to do so, it is unforgiveable, so working from the back to the front, it does make sense.
