House GOP in Turmoil

They do. And parties change.
That is what I am saying. Those 8 are RINOs. Perhaps they are what Republicans once were, but they are now RINOs.

The problem here is that America was founded on compromise. Our Constitution, the Bill of Rights....a result of compromise.

Those 8 are not able to perform their duties because they view their duty as uncompromisingly standing. They give power to the DNC.
Comprise has only gone in one direction for decades. The Dems never compromise their desire for bigger and more intrusive government.

I think I have already stated several months ago in another thread the “MAGA” repubs are the RINOS. The establishment Washington elites of both parties have very little difference in their position.

BTW, just read dem leader Jerries is calling Jordan an extremist. Probably a sure sign he believes Jordan is about to be elected speaker.

peace to you

No. Compromise has gone both ways. For one, that is how I have guns upstairs and can still get ammo. That is why we are not as progressive as the Dems want us to be. But we are slowly going in that direction.

Unfortunately the 8 RINOs may have spread up the process. They would rather give power to the DNC than compromise with Republicans. And they have, to a greater extent than I think you may realize.

What they did is to force Republicans in a position where they must make concessions, to meet the demands of the Democrats, in a greater way than was previously necessary.

I do not believe that was their intent. And I largely agree with what they want. But they made a severe error that will most likely costs seats in the future.

But to be fair, the GOP always implodes, and always from inside. It would have happened anyway, sooner or later. Everytime they get power they give it up in some way.

The timing on this one just made the Republicans look like fools.

Maybe Jim Jordan will be elected speaker but after losing 20 Republican votes in the first round today, and then the second round for this evening being delayed until tomorrow, I am doubting that he will. There seems to be some gathering momentum to empower Patrick McHenry as the Speaker Pro Tempore for thirty days to work on passing more aid for Ukraine and Israel and to deal with the mid-November budget deadline.

33 Trillion in debt. The compromise has been in one direction.

The timing makes the 8 heroes of the republic. The rest of the repubs are already foolish to believe anything the Dems say.

Oh yes!!! The mid-November budget deadline.

Can the country survive without huge deficit spending.

I can hear it now…. “The eight are holding the country hostage”, “the eight are collapsing the economy”, “everything bad that happens falls directly on the eight”!!!!!

We got about a month, then we will see. I hope they have the courage to stand firm.

No, you don't get to be a hero by harming the American people.....even if the principle was admirable. Once you stoop to using citizens as pawns you forfeit the right to be called "hero".

They did exactly what the Dems would have wanted them to do. What you will see is the Dems taking control. Yes, the 8 will have taught the GOP a lesson. But the final result is more power to the Dems. What Congress does has to pass the Senate. The 8 RINOs can't compromise enough to get this done. They will end up pushing the GOP towards even more moderate positions, and like "the Squad" they will cease to be relevant in any meaningful way.

It's interesting. I don't trust either party. But it's interesting like a sporting even.

Well, Jim Jordan's second attempt at being speaker ended up being worse than yesterday's.

Oh yes, they are heroes. They are the first to say, “No More!!!!” They have courage in their convictions. They are standing firm in their promises to their constituents.

They are not harming anyone. They are helping every American. The ones harming the American people are both repubs and Dems that continue massive spending They are holding the American people hostage by threatening to implode the economy with reckless spending policies.

The repubs have voted just like the Dems for decades. The result is 33 TRILLION debt!!!!!

No More!!!!

The Eight are HEROES!!!!!!

Now Tom Emmer's speakership bid failed. Current view of House Republicans:

DT put out a statement against Emmer. A few hours later he’s out.

Wouldn’t it be interesting if they elected an outsider as speaker? Elect Mike Pence (he’s not getting any traction in the primaries) or some else?

Who would make a good “outsider speaker”?

No. They could have been heros.

But Newt Gingrich is right -

“Well right now, [the House] can’t govern, and I think that the eight people who betrayed the conference and joined the Democrats to defeat the 96 percent of the conference unleashed furies that I don’t think they’d even dreamed of, because it gave every person the right to be equally destructive and equally angry,”

What ended up occurring is the House was crippled and the power was given to the DNC.

The 8 ended up empowering the liberals, the Democrats. That was not, I'm sure, their intent. But it was the result.

Good. Our govt does less damage when it can't do anything.
To an extent.

They should have passed a stripped down budget only to keep the government running and the military funded.

Separate all the giving away our money to foreign government ideas, the pork to fund promises made to others....all that junk.

Then they can argue and fight all they want.

As it stands what was accomplished is that the DNC gained power - not in name but in the fact that conservatives will now have to give more ground (and there isn't much ground left to give) to the Democrats.

And the longer this goes on the greater chance thee is for a Democrat controlled House in the near future, never mind losing all chances to gain the Senate.

What speaker Gingrich doesn’t acknowledge is when repubs vote like Dems, it doesn’t matter who swings the gavel, THEY have betrayed their constituents. $33 Trillion Debt!!!!

I understand the elites want everyone to fall into line and do whatever they say. These eight are heroes BECAUSE they are doing the right thing for the right reason and they are doing what their constituents want. How can that be betrayal?

The Dems have been empowered for decades every time repubs betray their constituents and vote like Dems for massive increases in spending and more government intrusion in people’s lives.

Heroes!!! Yes, Yes, Yes!!!!! They are heroes!!!

Doesn't matter. The 8 RINOs voted with the entire DNC House to take apart the Republicans.

Saying the other Republicans did the same thing dies not make the 8 RINOs heros. It makes them no better.

I'm not, BTW, saying the 8 RINOs are worse than the GOP. I'm merely saying that they have defected to the DNC....at least for a time. They are RINOs.

It doesn’t matter how the Dems voted. They are the minority.

These eight HEROES have refused to betray their constituents and voted against a “moderate” speaker that will continue betray the repub base and appease the Dems by agreeing to massive budgets we cannot afford.

$33 Trillion debt!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Dems and repubs (other than these eight heroes) have attacked our children and grandchildren by giving them an outrageous debt of $33 Trillion, knowing these folks that are responsible will never be held accountable UNTIL heroes stand firm and say NO MORE!!!!

Dems + 8 RINOs made a majority.

And it does matter. For the Republicans those 8 are a cancer (allowing a few control the party is political suicide for most of the Republicans).

Right or wrong, the Republicans will have to partner with the Democrats.

Now the GOP is in a position where they are the party in control but at the same time cannot do anything.

Better for the GOP that the Republicans ditch those 8 RINOs and partner with moderate Democrats. Isolate the extremes in both parties, keep them off committes, make their tenure a waste of space.

Heroes do the right thing for the right reason, even if they are “isolated” and lose committee appointments. No amount of name calling (cancer?) will change that truth.

The repubs can do something. They can govern as if they respect the wishes of their base, instead of betraying them with massive government spending (did I mention $33 Trillion debt?)

The repubs wouldn’t dare retaliate against the hero eight because they understand the BASE will vote them out of office. It’s the same reason they won’t partner with Dems because they will no longer have the illusion of being “conservative”.

No. In terms of public service heros do the right thing for the public. Those 8 did not.

There seems to be a misperception that a Congressman is only to consider what his or her state wants (even worse, what his or her specific voters want).

But a Congressman is to also consider what is best for the nation even if this means a compromise. Our nation was founded on compromise with the hope that the middle ground will be better for the whole than either extreme.

Now, don't get me wrong - I agree with the principles of the 8 RINOs. But their actions did more than kill the GOP. Their actions did more than strengthen the DNC. Those are just political positions.

The 8 RINOs did, with their timing, damage to the American people.

And that is simply wrong. They put their own self-interest above the nation.
