Huckabee preaches in S.C.

No, but neither do you, and yet you're giving him a pass... Sounds one sided to me.

I'll need evidence that he lied about his motives for preaching in South Carolina.

As for the Clintons we all know what they have done.

Not when they are running for the office of POTUS. Who is to say that Hillary's tears were fake? Did you attend the event? See it for yourself in person?

With that, we can almost agree.. I agree that him preaching the Gospel is a great thing, but the timing of it is where I have a problem with it.

Jamie

So, Are you willing to say on record in front of God that there is a wrong time to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ?

Think about it...
Even when God gave us preachers this command?

2Ti 4:2 KJV
(2)
Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

2Ti 4:2 CEV
(2)
to preach God's message. Do it willingly, even if it isn't the popular thing to do. You must correct people and point out their sins. But also cheer them up, and when you instruct them, always be patient.

There is nothing more important in this world than preaching the gospel.
Nothing. And no man's secular job should stand in the way of this calling.

"Sorry God, I can't preach the gospel today.. I am in SC and that would be politically incorrect" Would you actually say that to God?

What if someone would come to Christ because of this?...
What if someone got closer in their relationship to Jesus because of this?...

I will admit I am a little biased here on two reasons...

1. I like Huckabee.. and hope he wins the POTUS... because he is not afraid to let his faith show.. and
2. I am a preacher, and NO ONE will ever tell me not to preach for any reason... The rulers in Jerusalem tried that tactic on Peter and James... and they preached anyway...

What I am hearing here, is Christians trying to tie a Preacher's hands.. just because of his secular job.

If you are a Christian in Michigan today, what would you do if you were a preacher and running for president? Could you tell God that you would not preach the Gospel? Or would you stand for what you believe in no matter what?

Don't you think we need a man in office that stands for what he believes in?

Tim, I have the uttermost respect for you. I can fully understand where you're coming from.

I am not trying to tie his hands, I just feel like he shouldn't be preaching in the state he is stumping for. How many other churches are there in this country that would have him preach, my main point was why in SC now?

The option is always open for him to spread the word. If he is the man you say/think he is I hope he wins. If he is really out to set this country straight, as a Christian he can do more behind the desk of the WH than behind the pulpit for one sermon.

With this, I am going to bow out of this thread. I respect you and your opinion too much to continue to beat this. We both have different opinions.

We all have good reasons to be suspicious of anyone looking for our vote.

However, whether his motives were right or wrong or a little of both, there is no question that now, in SC, Huckabee's message attracted listeners it would not get anywhere else at any other time.

And if the message was faithful to God's Word (I haven't heard otherwise), that has to be a good thing. I pray God's message was planted in many hearts and will bear fruit.

Jamie, I respect you too... and one thing you must know about me is, I rarely get upset with someone who disagrees with me... especially in a political forum...

I love to discuss politics..
A good political debate is always fun...
Don't bow out because of me...
I was having fun... not being upset.

I don't get mad, and upset over politics.. because I know ultimately, God is in control... and He already knows who is going to be the POTUS.

To me, politics is the adventure in finding out God's will for governments...

I can respect what you are saying about him not stumping....
And if he had been stumping behind a pulpit.. I would not have only condemned him, but the church that allowed him to use it for political gain as well..

But he was in SC.. they asked him to preach... he preached...
That is all I see...

BTW... thanks for the respect bro... your statement made my day.

In the article, referenced in the OP, the organist played a few notes of "Hail to the Chief". IMO, totally inappropriate. If Huckabee wishes to be a preacher/evangelist, be one. If he wants to be a politician, stay out of the pulpit during the primary season.

It is wrong for the democrats to politic in predominately black churches and the same applies to republicans in predominately white "mega churches".

FTR, I do not support Huckabee and would never vote for him for any office. At this date I support Fred Thompson, with Giuliani and Romney runner-up. Huckabee and McCain will never receive my vote.

Also, did not Huckabee preach in Hagee's church in San Antonio recently and Copeland spent a week of programs devoted to interviewing Huckabee. I'm not too impressed with the company Huckabee keeps.

I am not a fan of the Huckster, but I see nothing wrong with him preaching in SC (or anywhere else). Why didn't he preach in some other state? Cuz he was in SC. Is he looking for votes? Of course. Does that mean that since he's a preacher he should speak at schools, union halls, etc, but not churches?

Perhaps our nation wouldn't have slipped so far in so many ways if Christians had been more active/informed/involved in our system all along. it'sdefinitely the precedent of our early years as a nation.

AMEN brother! Preach it!

What i like about your view brother is that it is from God's word. I see MANY opinions declared on these threads and VERY LITTLE scripture to back up the views.

We are Christians. Why don't we all try to align our thoughts and views with the Bible we "claim" to believe??

God Bless! :jesus:

Interesting view. What scripture have you applied to come to this conclusion here?

I can not know Mike Huckabee's heart so I can not speak as to what his motives were for preaching at this time in SC. He seems to be trying to speak what he believes in his heart where ever he goes. In doing so I do not believe he will win the nomination much less win the general election. If we pass judgement on Mike Huckabee, we sin, the Lord tells us very clearly through His servant James.......

Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge. There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another? James 4:11-12

We need to pray for him.

Why is it always assumed his motives are bad? Why is it hard to assume that just MAYBE he is using his presidential campaign to focus attention on Christ, and THAT is the reason for preaching Sunday?

WOW! What a concept! I for one am thrilled to see a man stand up so clearly and humbly for the Gospel when the media forces him to answer such questions. And for the guts to actually get up and preach without any mention of politics. Wouldn't it be great to have a man not ashamed of the Gospel in the White House? Instead of trying to keep it under wraps for fear it would offend someone?

I understand the temptation to apply this to the post, but it cannot be applied this way. This would mean that since I am a cabinet maker I am not allowed to preach the gospel. This would conflict with many other passages of scripture such as this......

1Pe 3:15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and [be] ready always to [give] an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

When Huck is asked about Christ he gives them the Word of God and this is biblical.

2Ti 4:2 Preach the word; be instantin season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

No Chrsitian should check his relationship with Jesus and his work for the Lord at the door of politics.

Sounds like you think that it is okay for a preacher to turn his back on full-time ministry(to which he has allegedly been called to by God) to become a politician.

It would not be okay if God has impressed upon the man's heart to devote one's life to "full time" ministry.

I don't know the man's heart nor what he has heard from our Lord. But I do know that anyone can preach and work other jobs at the same time.

WOW!!!

Talk about being judgemental!!

How do you get this from: " No Chrsitian should check his relationship with Jesus and his work for the Lord at the door of politics."

Would you be as condemning if "POLITICS" were replaced by "ENGINEERING, or ACCOUNTING, or DITCH DIGGING, or whatever"?

And this snide parenthetical epithet: "(to which he has allegedly been called to by God)". You really questioning a servant's commitment to his Master?

Your brotherly love is overflowing Ken. Take two aspirin & go to bed.

Just what is considered "full time" calling by God?

I feel that the bible teaches that all Christians are to be in full time service to God and this does not exclude activities but rather fully includes all that we set our hearts to do.

The Apostle Paul wrote scripture for God yet he also made tents. So i see the "Preacher or Politics" , "one or the other" as a total non-biblical view.
