Just material things... but some families those material things took a lifetime or even their parents lifetime to accumulate. Are we so selfish to say "just material things" when in actuality it is lots and lots of hard work to acquire. What may not seem like much to you, may be a lot to others.
The other day a fellow gave a warning shot, he was killed. Not a big fan of warning shots.

I agree. The warning shot is a Hollywood contrivance. Often a deadly contrivance. It just gives the bad guy more time to attack you.
A man with a knife can cover 20 feet and stab me in the chest in the time it takes me to draw my pistol and put a round on target.
If I fire a warning shot I have draw the pistol, to take off the safety, point the pistol either in the air or in another safe direction, then bring the pistol back on target and hesitate while I decide if I have to pull the trigger. That brings it up to 50 feet that the bad guy can cover in that time.
No thanks. Double tap to the center of mass if there is one assailant. If there is more than one I use the Boarding House rule. Nobody gets seconds until everybody has had firsts.
I train several hours every week. I train for the double tap, for the Boarding House option, and for the triple tap in the event the assailant is wearing body armor.
I train others several hours every week to do the same. So far so good. We are all still alive. It is well worth the time, effort, and expense. My family is precious.
I was in Biloxi during and for some time after Katrina. One of the people I worked with was sitting on his porch (no power), when a truck with Florida plates drove into his cul-de-sac. Three men hopped out. He hollered over at them, "Can I help you?" They laughed and said, "No, we're just looking to see if there's anything to loot." He picked up the shotgun he had next to the door and unloaded a round into their tailgate. They jumped in the trruck and lit out. He reported it to the police. They called him back a couple of days later and told him they'd caught them looting another neighborhood. He asked if they needed him to come file a report; the policeman laughed and said, "No, we've got them under homeland security rules; they're gonna sit in jail and not see a judge for about three years."
I've had to deal with armed intruders on my property (turned out to be coon hunters trespassing); and with suspicious incidents just off the driveway. Idjits have messed with my south gate more than once; and thieves have stolen or messed with my game cameras on more than one occasion. I never walk the property without being armed.
I've also sat in rooms knowing that I was the only American in the building, and have calculated every escape route and everyone I would have to shoot on the way.
It's easy to say you'd shoot the looter or intruder. And I'm 100% for protecting that which God has given me, which includes my wife and children. But I think Clint Eastwood said it best in "Unforgiven": "It's a <terrible> thing, killing a man. You take away all he's got and all he's ever gonna have." To add to that: you also take away everything he is, and everything he could be.
Pull the trigger if you have to...but not because you can. And if you have to--HAVE to--pull the trigger, don't fire warning shots; you're just wasting ammo and you'll have to re-acquire the target. If you fire once, fire twice, because the first one's gonna go wild. The second one will hit what you're shooting at. And, if you suspect you're gonna fire more than twice, find something to get behind, because they might start firing back (it's even better if you're behind something *before* you fire the first shot).
But the *best* scenario is not having to shoot at all. I'm gonna tell ya, folks; racking a pump shotgun at 3:00am is one of the loudest and most distinctive sounds you'll ever hear.

A shotgun makes too much of a mess of everything. Take weeks to disinfect and repair. 1911 ACP with police rounds all the way.

Less than five minutes googling has turned up no less than four examples. If 'liberty' means the risk of accidentally being shot by someone else's child (let alone an adult) then knock yourselves out (or, should that be, 'shoot yourselves') with it.
I'm referring to our minds: are we governed by the love of Christ or fear of the world as Christians?
Hopefully we are governed by the words of Christ, including Luke 22:36 and Revelation 18:6.
We've been down this road before and you know I don't share your interpretation of those verses which, for me, have to be viewed through the lens of 'God is love' and 'Perfect love drives out all fear '.
If defending ones family is hate sign me up. However in the current political atmosphere extreme language such as "hate" gets bandied about simply because one does not agree. Apparently this radical far left buzz word tactic is not isolated to the US.
I don't nullify the passages, just interpretations which are at odds with the revelation of Christ shown to us by the whole counsel of Scripture, His Incarnation as the Word of God and His Body the Church.

Well, first off I don't think it can be read as an instruction to us as Christians. Look at the context: in Rev 17 it is the false Christ and his minions who destroy Babylon and therefore it is reasonable to conclude that they are the addressees of the command. I really don't think it is something that we as Christians should take on board or try to emulate!
1 Are they attacking you? If so that would be self defence, perhaps.
2 If hey are only stealing your goods that would be murder.
3 Would any action you take be likely to prosper the propagation of the gospel?
1. if they are coming into my house I am not going to take the time to determine if they are simply wanting my stuff. If I and my family are home I will assume my family is in danger. I will not wait to see if they will attack me or not. They will be dead and no that is not murder.

3. If my family is in danger from looters my concern is the safety of my family. I think liberals like your self are prone to pull the love of God, and the salvation of others out as a debate tool to support that they would want done regardless of those issues. I find it insincere, cowardly, and just an excuse.
