The point is that no man can accomplsih what one can do by continually discipling another who disciples another who disciple another, etc.
Only a braggard and egotist would mention about how many have been baptized and all the other accomplishments. I heard the same thing from the current pastor as I listened to him speak about his accomplishements in a sermon. He mentioneed about how they want their students to know how to build a large church. Jesus never built a church let alone a large church. But His kingdom is still growing. Ever read about Jesus brag about what He accomplished. He is God too.
Take a look at what Paul writes about his righteousness and compares it to Christ. There is absolutely nothing we can brag about.God can snuff our life out in an instant. He can take away everything we own and everything we are in one sweep. It is not about us but about Him. It is not about how many we baptize and drawing attention to us or any church, but about Christ and what he does. It is about His glory and not ours. It is about us decreasing and He increasing.
2 Cor. 10:17,18, "But he who boasts is to boast in the Lord. For it is not he who commends himself that is approved, but he whom the Lord commends."
2 Cor. 12:9,10, "And He has said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness." Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ's sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong."
Gal. 6:14, "But may it never be that I would boast, except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world."
James 4:16, "But as it is, you boast in your arrogance; all such boasting is evil."
Prov. 27:2,3, " Let another praise you, and not your own mouth; A stranger, and not your own lips."
Jer. 9:23, 24, "Thus says the Lord, "Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom, and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches; but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the Lord who exercises lovingkindness, justice and righteousness on earth; for I delight in these things," declares the Lord."
I am repulsed by any man who would credit God's work to himself. Any man who preaches should know it is not his preaching that saves. Boasting about those who come forward when he preaches should know that the scalpel cannot boast. The only person who could have any reason to boast would be the operator of the scalpel--the master.
Charles Spurgeon came to Christ when a laymen preached who couldn't preach. Spuregeon went on to become a great preacher. Never once have I ever read his sermons and how he boasted about how great of a preacher he was and how many came forward. Never once have I ever heard Billy Graham ever talk about how great his preaching is and how many come forward. I cannot ever recall a single instance where Billy Graham ever talked about how to build a great evangelistic organization. God blesses those He chooses and we must remember who is the master and who gives the gifts. We are responsible to humble ourselves and be His servants about His work. It is not our work but His. It is His kingdom not ours.
