If God chooses, why does He ask me to believe?

Jhn 10:38

But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him.

Mar 1:15

And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.

Why is it up me to believe if I was chosen? If chosen, why would salvation depend on my belief? or my actions at all?
Simply because it is God's will that we believe in Him. He knows if we don't believe He cannot save us. Faith is the key to Salvation.

You have a choice. Salvation is offered all through the Bible and not once is there anyone who was saved with out faith. Faith is also a choice, and we receive faith by hearing the gospel.
Election never saved anyone. The Jews were elect and they rejected Christ do you think they were saved anyway?

I was being devils advocate to the Calvinists.

They should explain and answer the questions. My right honorable friend from Kentucky is banned,...so

Debate has a way of being frustrating. I just turn my computer off and do something for a while to calm down some times. I hope Kentucky isn't banned for good.

Ephesians 2:8-9
Salvation , because of His Grace is the gift
Rom 6:23

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God iseternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

We use our faith given by God to believe it or not,

Salvation is not merited, we believe it is necessary and He is willing and able to save us by Faith which we can exercise properly or not

It is not like we are being asked to believe what is not true.
There is then. Now we have now. Our problem is accepting the ressurrection from the dead, let alone all the other claimed miracles. But once one understands the gift and the forgivness it provides, we can believe. The lost do not yet know of it or refuse to hear to understand. (2 Corinthians 4:3-) And there are some real historical elements.

One cannot believe what one does not hear. And if we willing to do God's will Jesus promised we can know (John 7:17).
