Is pedophilia permissable?

The Pope sounds as if he doesn't doubt their guilt.

"I too have been deeply grieved by the fact that priests and religious, whose vocation it is to help people live holy lives in the sight of God, have themselves caused such suffering and scandal to the young.
Because of the great harm done by some priests and religious,
The abuse which has caused this crisis is by every standard wrong and rightly considered a crime by society
People need to know that there is no place in the priesthood and religious life for those who would harm the young.
Now he needs to address the purposeful cover ups to hide those guilty, and why the church would cover up at the expense of more child victims.

I think the Pope did address the issue, at least somewhat, by saying that Homosexuals have no business in the Priesthood in the first place. That is one of the things that I would think any Catholic would really be upset about, along with the abuse itself of course.

How in the world does an active, practicing homosexual make it all the way through 8 years of college and seminary and be ordained and people don't know what is going on?
According to Catholic theology, if a priest is a practicing, active homosexual, that means he is a practicing, active priest in mortal sin, which means he is lost and headed for hell. That means that the leader of the whole local parish is in no position to "lead" or protect the flock. THAT'S THE PART THAT WOULD REALLY BOTHER ME!

No James, I don't think he did. He talked about the wrongness of the abuse, but did not address the cover ups. He did not condem the coverup of child sexual abuse by knowing RC officals(is that the right word to use?).

I think we are both right. He did say that homosexuals have no business in the priesthood and he didn't say anything about the cover-up. I think he better tho, or that fact would be very, very damaging to the church as a whole.

Every single person that knew someone was molested and by whom, then sent them somewhere else to cover it up, needs to be drummed out of the core. They need to be banned. Period!!

Finally...James and I agree on something. This is what I have been saying all along. Actually, action should have been taken a long time ago and it is the RCC's dragging of the feet that has already damaged the credibility of the Church and the Pope. Not only should these pedophiles and those who covered up the crimes be fired, they should also be convicted and thrown in prison with the cooperation of the Catholic Church.

Would someone like to share what the one commandment Jesus gave us is and what his admonition concerning judgment and condemnation is?

I was reading Scripture tonight, and this struck me as contrary to our common experience and personal action.

God bless,

Carson

Not to get off topic or anything, but after you explain it to us, then maybe you could explain it to the Pope who condemns Israel for defending herself against terrorists (Palestinians) while overlooking true sins within his own Church. BTW, I don't want a big discussion of this here. If you want to discuss the Pope's hypocrisy alongside with President Bush's, then please start a new thread. Right now, we are really discussing the lack of justice within the RCC when it comes to covering up sin and criminal acts against God.

I'm sorry Joseph, but that isn't it.

Would you pray for my ministry this summer?

God bless you,

Carson

Yes I will pray for your ministry this summer as I know it has to do with the Pro Life movement which I am a strong supporter of. BTW, I found a link to an article with some guy named Donohoe who is the president of the Catholic League who is supposedly a strong defender for the Catholic Church. You might be surprised that he seems to agree with me about the cover up. Finally, a Catholic who doesn't make excuses and try to defend the indefensible:

Attention Members:

We are reaching the 10 page mark which means that this thread will soon be shut down. If you have anymore comments to make concerning the pedophilia among the Catholic priests, the cover up by the Catholic Bishops, and the lack of action from the Vatican, please make them now. I will shut down this thread when it reaches 10 pages.

Thank You,

Well I guess we agree then. I am glad he has addressed the fact of what has gone on. Now I hope he will address the cover ups. I also hope everyone involved will be thrown out of the church, because they enabled the abuse to continue.
I also agree with Mr. Curtis, they need to be in jail. What they did was not just a cover up within the church, but a crime.

I'm glad to see that you are coming around and agreeing with me. (Just kidding). But, seriously, I do think that like anyone who covers up a felony would be subjected to criminal charges, these cases should be no different.
Curtis: I agree. Jail works for me!!

There are so many disturbing facets to this whole sordid affair, one other part I would like to comment on. I mentioned, that if I were Catholic, I would be very upset with a system that allows homosexuals to go through 8 years of college and seminary being homosexual (a grave moral disorder according to Catholic theology) and then, in spite of it all, being ordained to the priesthood instead of being dismissed from the whole process.

To follow up on that, the statement by Law that he was just following the "advice of professionals and "behavior scientists", is one of the most disturbing statements he has uttered. It's the psychologists and other "professionals" that decided who is fit for the priesthood in the first place, and alot of those people according to the National Catholic newspaper "The Wanderer" has reported that alot of those "professionals" REJECT candidates for the priesthood if they are NOT homosexual.
For Law to base ANY decision on what these psychobabblers think about ANYTHING is a disgrace to reason. How on earth did these modern-day witchdoctors gain such influence in the church and society, the schools and, it seems, in the work place?

As the issue stands now, the Vatican supports a sort of modified zero-tolerance policy for America's 47,000 priests: call it "a couple of strikes and you're out." Priests who are found to be "notorious and guilty of the serial, predatory sexual abuse of minors" will automatically be defrocked by the local bishop. But the fate of priests who "are not notorious" (i.e. first offenders) will be left up to a local diocese. The Vatican's relatively conciliatory approach disappointed some American Catholics who feel betrayed by the Church, and it has left some American Catholic clergy feeling that more should be done.

It is too bad that the Catholic laity can't do anything about the evil being perpetrated by the RCC leadership except go to the secular media and with-hold their tithes. There is a lack of trust inside and outside Catholicism. There is a lack of accountability in the RCC leadership. This is why we have local control of the church in the Baptist denomination: so we can expel the immoral pedophiles from our midst.
