...and if it was a true profession of faith, is he in Heaven?
If it were, is he in Heaven?

Philip, I cannot answer your question other than through the Word of God. No adulterer will enter heaven.

If you willfully commit sin after coming to the knowledge of Christ and do not repent of it before death, God must be true to His Word, else God is a liar.

The true child of God will not commit that sin without feeling the chastening hand of God in his life until he or she repents of that sin. God chastens whom he loves. Is is fair to say he chastens those who do not sin? No, he chastens those who do sin.

Yes, I know Jesus Christ is our lawyer, our advocate (see 1 John 2), but if we do not feel that chastening hand, we need to realize our profession of faith could not have been a true profession before God the Father.

As I said before, God knows the heart. God knows if we harbor sin in it and He will not hear the prayer of one who hides sin in his heart, even a prayer for salvation.

    Utter nonsense.

You're trying to say that a lifetime of devotion to and love for God could be wiped out by failing to confess a sin in time?

Nobody knows the moment when they will die. If this were actually a requirement, God would be asking the impossible. God is not capricious or arbitrary.

Amen! Standing Firm is standing firm in something, but it sure aint Christ if an unconfessed sin at death negates your salvation.

I am standing firm on the Solid Rock Jesus Christ and His inerrant Word. Is God going to negate His Word if I go out intentionally and kill someone and don't repent?

His Word says no murderer will inherit the kingdom of God. His Word says 'Sanctify them through Thy Word, thy Word is truth. The word 'sanctify' means to 'set apart.' The Christian is to be set apart, different from the world. We are not to sorrow as those that have no hope. I know that verse speaks of the resurrection of the saints, but there is application in this area as well. The world gives up in despair, the person who is without Christ commits suicide because that one does not have Christ. The Holy Spirit, when He is come, will guide you into all truth. The truth is God would not have His children to commit suicide, else it would be in the Bible. When you have done all you can and still can't seem to shake the devil, can't seem to shake the depression, kill yourself. No, the Scripture says 'Having done all, stand.

I have been saved by His marvellous grace because I put my trust in His Son Jesus Christ for my Salvation. His Spirit will not allow me to intentionally sin.

Do I sin? Sure, everyone does. Paul sinned, but not intentionally. Romans 7:19 Teh evil that I would not do, that I do.

If one has intentional sin in one's life and claiming to be Christian, one is walking a unstable life. Paul wrote 'Ye cannot serve God and mammon. 'No man can serve two masters' was how Jesus said it. One cannot claim to be a Christian and truthfully say they can intentionally commit sin and enter heaven without repenting from that sin. Else Christ's death on the cross would not have been needed. Repentance is needed in a person's life.

Too many people try to lead someone to the Lord with just a 'All you have to do is call on the Lord and you will be saved.' But the Word of God says if we are not given over to Christ completely, but want to hold onto a sin, be it adultery, lying, murder or any other of the works of the flesh, that person will not inherit the kingdom of God.

You can baptize them, put them on your membership roll, slap them on the back and make them feel good, but if they are harboring intentional sin, they are as lost as the one who is a rapist or serial killer who never heard of Christ's love for mankind.

It's not often I see somebody contradict themselves from one sentence to the next.:wavey:

Isn't sin defined as willful disobedience to God? If so, what part of disobedience isn't intentional?

You say you believe that a Christian can't lose their salvation, but then you say that unconfessed sin at your death can't/won't be covered by the blood of Christ. How, exactly, is the latter consistent with the former?

Paul thought it was like that.

    Romans 10:9
"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved... For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."

It seems like you want to see some good works in the life of the Christian so that you know whether he/she is saved. Am I correct?

Oh, you believe in "Lordship Salvation" too? Is there any room in your theology for sanctification? I'm actually very happy that when you got saved, you stopped sinning. Unfortunately, not all of us have.

    Kindly answer this question, please.

Can a lifetime of devotion to and love for God be wiped out by failing to confess a sin in time?

I keep saying that this is NOT an issue of someone who is not really saved. The problem with your entire statement relates to the fact that you are throwing once saved always saved out the window based on a single unforgiven sin.

I also keep repeating that if you will read your Bible carefully you will realize that it is clear that nobody is allowed in heaven with ANY sin. The ONLY way for this to be the case is for the blood of Jesus Christ to cover that person's sin and wash it clean. God is not a liar, but you are twisting His words around.

Answer me how can a person enter heaven without sin? NOBODY but Jesus was or ever will be a perfect person, therefore you have just kicked everybody out of heaven.

Let me ask you a question. It says a murderer will not be allowed into heaven. It does NOT say a murderer who asked for forgiveness will be allowed in heaven, does it? If not, then you are adding your own words and therefore a murderer who has asked for forgiveness is no different than one who has not if you wish to read the scriptures the way you are interpreting them.

This also has nothing to do with whether or not a Christian is punished for unrepentent sin. You keep adding to the debate by discussing punishment for unrepentent sin and questioning the person's salvation, when I have specifically asked for a question to be answered with the assumption that the person is truly saved.

The bottom line? You obviously do not believe in once saved always saved and your belief is very similar to that of the Catholic faith where repentence is required before death if a trip to heaven is desired.

Do I sin? Sure, everyone does.

No contradiction there CC. I did not say I intentionally sin. Try again.
It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out that if one intentionally sins and dies in that sin, then that one did not know Christ in the first place.

Many will Matthew 7:22-23 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Many will have walked doing many wonderful works claiming to have been saved and still lost. Jesus did not say, 'I knew you once, but you slipped up,' or 'I walked on one side of you and the devil on the other,' but 'I never knew you.'

John the Baptist taught repentance Mark chapter 1. Jesus taught that if one did not repent, he would likewise perish. Jesus also taught Repentance in Revelation 2 or He would come and fight against them with the sword of His mouth.

Can a lifetime of love and devotion to God be wiped out because of unconfessed sin? Certainly. Paul said, 'Ye cannot drink from the cup of the Lord and the cup of devils.' James wrote, 'Whosoever therefore is a friend of the world is an enemy of God.' One unconfessed sin can keep a person from entering heaven. If one claims to be a Christian and never gives up a certain sin, let's say for the sake of an argument, the sin of adultery.

A man who sleeps around goes to church and hears a message preached on hell and is scared. He goes forward and makes a profession of faith. The next day, he is with his mistress, leaving his wife at home with the children. He goes through life acting pious in front of the community and the church, becomes a deacon or even the pastor of that church, yet still sees that same woman all along, or possibly another or more than one.

Now this man made a profession of faith and the only sin that he has against him is that sin of adultery. He will still die in that sin and go to hell.

When a man is saved, the Word of God teaches us that we take on a new nature, we do not want to sin. We want to do that which is pleasing to the Lord. We take on a new nature, new creatures in Christ Jesus. We no longer have the want to do that which is contrary to the walk in Christ.

    Wrong, Philip.

When a man truly repents of his sin, the book of Micah says God takes those sins and casts them into the sea. 'And their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.'

One who has truly repented has the slate wiped clean. But God can see what is in our hearts. He knows those that are not sincere in their professions. He knows the one who will continue in sin after the profession of faith. That one, never got saved, for faith, without works, is dead.

So, you don't "intentionally" sin. Interesting, you are certainly a better person than I am.

I keep reading this thread and wondering if I'm reading what I think I am.

SFIC are you saying that if I am sinning -- whatever that sin may be -- and I'm hit by a truck, a plane smashes into my house, or an earthquake opens up the ground and I'm swallowed up, that because I die while I'm sinning, I'm not a Christian and I won't go to heaven?

I agree with you completely. This one is a hard one to let go. "Let God and let God...." One can not argue with someone that believes he/she has all the answers. Sadly, someone of such nature seems to be not seeing the forest for the trees. Life must be nice in a glass house.

I am a transparent person when it comes to my faith and my beliefs. I share in hopes of helping someone else...not that I enjoy sharing the tribulations of my life. Our God is an AWESOME GOD as Rich Mullins used to sing. :Fish:

As for Standing Firm, I wish you well. I agree to totally disagree with you.

It is not helping when one tells another 'The Lord understands if you commit suicide.

I never said that so don't put words in my mouth Standing Firm. You are quick to judge others. Too bad we're not all perfect. As I recall...there is and was only one perfect one....Jesus himself.

Again...I agree to disagree with you. Are you sure you aren't Church of Christ? I was for 18 years and you sound an aweful lot like a COC.

SFIC, please answer McDirector's question at the top of this page. I asked a similar one several pages ago that you never answered.

If Christ forgives all our sins when we are saved, how come He can't forgive a sin we might be committing as we die?

When I was into Tibetan Buddhism, I was nervous about thinking negative thoughts because I was taught that if you were thinking something evil at the time of death or were clinging to the illusion of this world (I'm simplifying here), at the moment of death, then you would pay for it after death. This is probably why Gandhi (Hindu but there are similarities) called out the name of the Hindu God when he was shot. What you say reminds me of this. We better not be sinning at the moment of death or we go to hell even if we are saved!

I do not understand why it is so hard to believe that the Holy Spirit will keep the true Christian from committing suicide. In our weakest moment in life, He is not able to keep us safe? to comfort us?

The Psalmist wrote in Psalm 91:3 Surely He shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler and the noisome pestilence. Yet many do not have the faith that He is able to do that which He promised.

The Psalmist also wrote in Psalm 34:19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous but the Lord delivereth him out of them all. If one commits suicide, apparently the Psalmist was lying in that verse, because the Lord did not deliver that one out of his afflictions.

SFIC, you aren't answering the question.

On the one hand, you admit you sin but then you say the HS keeps us from committing sin.

Also, are you saying that no Christian can possibly be committing a sin at the moment of death?

    Marcia,

The Holy Spirit keeps us from willful sin, or tries to with many. Those whom belong to God, when there is a temptation, there is also the Holy Spirit there to tell us that we had better not do it.

I choose to listen to the Holy Spirit.

What do you do with the verse in 1 John that says, 'Whosoever committeth sin is of the devil...'?

I reckon until we truly repent, and stop sinning altogether, not one single one of us is truly saved.

You might say, 'Oh, but wait, the Bible teaches us that we are sealed, from the moment we believe.' Yes, it does say that. But we must also remember belief (faith) is an action word. I can say all day long that I believe in Christ, but unless I repent of my sin and turn to Him, those words were just empty words; vanity.

James wrote that 'faith, without works, is dead.'

We cannot just say, 'I believe in Christ and expect to continue living in the same sinful lifestyle were say we were saved out of. Nor should we have an attitude that if I am committing a sin that God says those who do such shall not inherit the kingdom, that we will somehow bypass His Holy Word. Trusting in Christ is the only thing that will get a person in heaven. And to commit suicide would negate the fact that no murderer will enter heaven.
