As you acknowledged you are not sinless, the couple have also acknowledged they are not sinless. Moreover, they acknowledge their live-in relationship is also sinful. Why would they lose assurance if they continued their relationship? No, but as long as I refuse to acknowledge and deal with my known sins can cause me to lose assurance!

Not saying lose all assurance, but failure to agree with God by forsaking sinning will whittle away on it!As you acknowledged you are not sinless, the couple have also acknowledged they are not sinless. Nope. but one cannot claim that if refusing to deal with known sinning! You mean to say faith in Romans 4:7,8 is meaningless?
3) How to gain assurance of salvation?
they may experience the opposite and be very well assured (assuming they are indeed His children) God is their father because of His wrath/discipline for their sin (God is not mocked). As you acknowledged you are not sinless, the couple have also acknowledged they are not sinless. 1) Which forgives? Law or grace?
2) What is unrepentant sin? Are you sinless?
Nope. but one cannot claim that if refusing to deal with known sinning!
Law is like a mirror that shows you your condition.
If you have not shaved, the mirror does not cause it but reveals it to you.
Grace enables us to repent and believe all lawful commands.
Unrepentant sin is active present sin that has not been turned from of mortified.
I am sinless in Christ. That will not be fully realized until glorification.
We all sin here .

1 John 2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
if we smugly go our way flippantly "confessing" our sin with no desire to be rid of the sin even when we face the awful price He paid for our sin then:
1 Corinthians 11
29 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body.
30 For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.
31 For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged.
32 But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.
the couple needs to be put forth from the assembly until there is true repentance which would be verified by their marriage for one thing.
But even then they are not blameless because the "LIVE-IN" situation will always be their for the wagging tongues in the local churches to set fire of hell.
Even in his old age, John MacArthur doubted his salvation. He said if he ended up going to Hell, he’d be a weeper instead of a gnasher.
I didn't say it the scripture did.I know you wouldn't say you are sinless. But then how do you say "sin not"?
In looking over page one of this thread, Steven_15, several helpful answers have been given, but I missed where you acknowledged the validity of those answers, instead you asked additional questions.According to John MacArthur & Phil Johnson...
1) what should a christian do if he sins?
2) What is the meaning of repentance?
3) How to gain assurance of salvation?
4) When does a person have salvation but loses the assurance of salvation?
I would like to know the above.
if we have a sin area that God is convicting us about, but still refuse to deal with that issue! Why?
What do you mean by "deal with known sinning"?
One of your best posts ever.In looking over page one of this thread, Steven_15, several helpful answers have been given, but I missed where you acknowledged the validity of those answers, instead you asked additional questions.
1) What should a Christians do "when" they sin? First they need to recognize their thought or action missed the mark. And this awareness comes by prayerful contemplation of our daily life, and the thoughtful study of God's word. Once we understand where we went wrong, because of our commitment to strive to be Christ=like, we must strive to alter our lives to reflect the perfection of Christ. And this process continues from the time we were born anew, until we meet Christ (either in the air or in heaven.)
2) Repentance first means we become aware of our miss of the mark, and then our response such that our life changes to be more Christ=like. To be "granted" repentance means we are allowed to understand that we have missed the mark, and to understand God's word that provides our course correction.
3) If we do not believe in God and Christ we will lack assurance that their promise has been fulfilled in us. At communion, we are to consider (examine) ourselves to see if we are "of the faith." Does our sin cause us pain, are we striving to help rather than hinder the ministry of Christ, do we see the fruit of the Spirit growing in our lives? The short answer is the love of Christ controls us, and if we love Christ, that constitutes our "blessed assurance."
4) Which is more likely according to scripture, to be born anew and indwelt, yet unaware; or to be a professing Christian to whom Christ will say "I never knew you?"
5) Born anew Christians miss the mark, both as acting individually and acting as a Christian fellowship. Scripture provides a series of steps you are to take, if within the fellowship, you believe actions (including relationships) miss the mark. Google church discipline for various takes on this off topic issue.
6) Which forgives, the Law or Grace. Since by the Law, no flesh is justified, you should know the answer to your question.
7) What is unrepentant sin, and are born anew Christians sinless. If you are not aware of your miss of the mark or if your effort to correct your course lacks actual conviction, you have unrepentant sin in your life. Our life "in Christ" provides us with fresh insights as we grow closer to Christ's image. We do not fix everything at once, and our fixes do not always work. But the road to success is paved with partial victories.
Are born anew Christians sinless? Yes and No. From God's perspective, we are sinless, because all our sins, past present and future have been forgiven. However, we continue to think and do the things that would store up wrath against us, had we not been covered with the blood of the Lamb. These are the thoughts and actions that miss the mark, that we need to work to become aware of, and to strive to alter our course such that we do not do them (or do them as much), so we can be effective ambassadors of Christ in the ministry of reconciliation.
Removed from leadership and enact church discipline. So what about a christian couple in a church, in a leadership position, in a live-in relationship? What should be the response of the church committee towards them?
They are not fit to lead anything living in rebellion to God.So what about a christian couple in a church, in a leadership position, in a live-in relationship? What should be the response of the church committee towards them?
I am just as troubled by the local church allowing this to happen without any intervention! They are not fit to lead anything living in rebellion to God.
