Why do I care. We each will answer before God. I leave John MacArthur to answer to our King, not to me.

So, both you, me, and J.M. have stuff we don't need.
    We all have excess.

I dont know how it is where you live, but here in the Empire State and I am sure in Calif - A house does cost a tad a more than a flashlight!

As Christians we are to be above reproach.
Are we willing to sacrifice for Christ?
Not saying we must live dirt poor, but is excess really necessary

I am reminded of the posters who offer slanderous asides, rather than address the thread discussion issue. Mr. Mac Arthur has probably taught on giving to the Lord's ministry, as opposed stock-piling treasure here on earth.

Is owning more than one Bible a sin?

After all, an individual only needs one Bible, correct?

And owning more than one Bible is an example of "excess," isn't it?

Furthermore, "a sin is a sin is a sin," right?

Isn't that what we preach and teach in church?

We all stand condemned if we are to love our neighbor as ourselves. Money is always the measure of our failure and sin in this matter.

The early church got it right according to what Jesus teaches.

“And all that believed were together, and had all things common; And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.” Acts 2:44–45 (KJV 1900)

“And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.” Acts 4:32 (KJV 1900)

That is, in Acts the church practiced "Jerusalem Communism". Abraham Kuiper explains that Jerusalem "communism" says "what's mine is yours." Modern communism says "what's yours is mine."

So sharing in love is good. But giving reluctantly and legalistically yields nothing.

“And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.” (1 Corinthians 13:3)

I don't want ya to feel mudholed, but I agree with Reynolds.

When we start focusing on what others have we lose focus on what we have.

    Because what we've failed to remember ... it's ALL God's; Psalm 24

I'm sure there were those who thought Pops was living in excess with that little airplane ... overlooking that is how he kept his place where we were raised ... that it really didn't cost more than the fancy trucks the farmers would get (write off) because he did his own maintenance as a licensed A&P. It also availed opportunity with the Texas Baptist Men as well as Keith Hull's "Wings For Christ" outside Waco back in the day.

So there's always more to the apparent situation in these things.

Accountability is necessary for all of us ... let's just keep it at accountability rather than judgment because we do not know the heart of another man, but only the fruit of their spirit.

You have a big house but a pastor should not have one?
A million dollars not what it used to be. You own a house and a couple tracts land, you there.

I think most of the attacks on Mac by other pastors is simply jealousy. "I preach good as he does. I preach better than he does. I do this, that, the other....... and I only have 30, 40, 100 people etc.".

    This is what Jesus says

    Luke 9:3
And he said unto them, Take nothing for your journey, neither staves, nor scrip, neither bread, neither money; neither have two coats apiece.
