From start to finish you seem to be in a feeling offended mode. The assessments were something Hillary will never live down, not that she cares. As progressive leftists, she, Bill, the Obamas, and even Carter, are all still active political menaces, and may be till they die. Obviously, being glad Trump is now in office instead of Hillary is about as current as you can get. I suspect this will carry over to his next term, which would put it fairly into the future.

The reason you cannot understand the general attitude is that you don't discern the incessant deep state and Dem media attacks against Trump and even his supporters. Of course he occasionally comes back at them with some flare and not a little force and this apparently offends your sensibilities, but siding with the extremely morally corrupt fake news bullies does you no credit. When you convince them to cease and desist, we can revisit whatever it is you think is so bad about Trump. Until then, it just sounds like sour grapes, hypocritical whining.

I think that you are correct that age has not mellowed Carter, surprisingly. President Harry Truman recognized Israel from the first moment but President Carter is actually against Israel. One doesn't expect anything from a playboy like Clinton or a smart alec like Obama but one wishes that Carter would be as gracious as he sometimes is all the time.

Not so much offended, but simply calling out personal attacks and lies.

The assessments were something Hillary will never live down, not that she cares.
I thought Ms. Clinton was absolutely wrong to say such things. But that doesn't seem to matter to people around here. CMG was happy to suggest that I had that attitude and agreed with her about people here, and I simply pointed out that HE was the one who was pinning that label on himself and others, not me. That's when you jumped in to tell me I was wrong, when I was not wrong at all.

The reason you cannot understand the general attitude is that you don't discern the incessant deep state...
I don't believe in the "deep state" conspiracy cooked up by Alex Jones and brought into the mainstream by the President's media mouthpiece, Sean Hannity, so you are correct. I don't deal in fantasy.

...and Dem media attacks against Trump and even his supporters.
I see the mockery, but my issues with Trump go way back to the birtherism hoax that he milked -- he was always on the verge of revealing something big about Obama, but never produced anything but rhetoric. There was simply nothing to birtherism. Then his campaign began, with its racist, nativist, and anti-Constitutional rhetoric and campaign promises, as well as the rampant dishonesty. Then he became President and continued that pattern, and worse.

I opposed Trump because I listen to what he says, read his tweets, and see what he does. It has very little to do with Democratic attacks or partisan politics. I was a third-generation Republican until Trump received the nomination, now I am completely independent.

Of course he occasionally comes back at them with some flare and not a little force and this apparently offends your sensibilities...
No, the dishonesty, corruption and the damage being done to "the least of these" offends my sensibilities. As a disciple of Jesus, I can't and won't ignore the clear teachings of Jesus to kiss up to political leaders who might give me some sort of political advantage. That simply results in a corruption of the gospel, the cynicism of unbelievers, and dragging the name of Jesus through the dirt. I work with teens, college students and young adults, and they see clearly that most of the "conservative" church in the United States is now really the "church of Trump," not of Jesus. That's appalling.

...but siding with the extremely morally corrupt fake news bullies does you no credit.
The President and his supporters like to slap the label, "fake news," on everything they don't like, while at the same time, creating an alternate reality that does not have much basis in truth. I don't let media pundits think for me. Remember, I pay attention to what the President says, writes, and does. I don't embrace the spin from any angle.

When you convince them to cease and desist, we can revisit whatever it is you think is so bad about Trump.
So you won't deal with the issue until I somehow get the worldwide media to shut down criticism of the President? I haven't heard the conspiracy theory that "Baptist Believer" controls the media. You may not believe it, but I have no power over the worldwide media.

Until then, it just sounds like sour grapes, hypocritical whining.
You are not connected with reality if that's what you think this is. People who call themselves "Christians" have abandoned most of what they believe for the sake of what they think is political power, and you think my grief and concern over it is "sour grapes."

Wow.

Yes, we obviously have very different outlooks. Like I said, I will be glad to deal with any little issues, if there are actually any left, after the Deep State and Dem MSM are cooperating to head this country in the right direction. Right now, the President has a job to do and is handling it amazingly well, even while up to his neck in “swamp creatures” that need the progressive leftism choked out of them. Siding with their outrageously false, hypocritical assessments of Trump does you no credit and no one of good conscience should join in.

PS I'm with you on the independent part--just never could join a political party. I don't even like defending Trump, but his opposition is clearly far too anti-USA and embraces too much evil with no end in sight.

Please give us specific's where the President has exceed his constitutional authority? Ad-hominem attacks based on liberal Trump hating talking points is not the basis for a serious discussion of this particular issue.

That's a misrepresentation.

I voted for the person most likely to defeat Trump. I voted AGAINST Trump, not for Ms. Clinton

No, you didn't. Texas is the same as other states, you pull the lever, check the box, whatever FOR a candidate. It's not a misrepresentation to say you chose who you perceived to be the lesser of two evils because that's exactly what you did. But this:

.I assumed no matter who won, Clinton or Trump would likely get impeached and removed from office before the end of their first term. I wanted to do what I could to ensure that Congress would hold the President accountable.

Why would you assume any such thing? Impeachment and removal has NEVER happened in this country's history. That's a dailykook strategy.

Of course, I lost that bet -- Mr. Trump became President and the Republicans are too cowardly to hold him accountable.

LOL, you really think the Democrat Party would have held Hillary accountable? Are the House Democrats "too cowardly" to hold Trump accountable for his collusion with Russia you bought into lock stock and barrel?

Of course, I have written all of this before on several occasions, but I know that presenting my position fairly doesn't serve your purposes to try to discredit me.

"presenting your position fairly"? Either you voted for Trump or you voted for Hillary. You voted for Hillary, and that's only what I said. Is it still Mueller time?

Your use of the expression, "Deep State," shows that you have embraced the Alex Jones/Fox News conspiracy delusions. Our perspectives on reality and truth are so different, I don't think we can have a productive conversation.

I don't even like defending Trump, but his opposition is clearly far too anti-USA and embraces too much evil with no end in sight.
If you stop looking at the extremists and look at your Christian brothers and sisters who oppose Trump and his enablers BECAUSE WE LOVE THIS COUNTRY, maybe you would feel comfortable not defending everything that Trump does.

If you had not noticed, I wrote "anti-Constitutional rhetoric," not 'exceeded his Constitutional authority.' I was referring to his campaign speeches where he regularly attacked religious liberty and freedom of the press.

In terms of exceeding his Constitutional authority, he has consistently rejected Congressional oversight, illegally ignoring Congressional subpeonas and obstructing justice by trying to undermine the Mueller investigation and the House and Senate investigations.

Ad-hominem attacks based on liberal Trump hating talking points is not the basis for a serious discussion of this particular issue.
I don't think I have ever made an ad-hominem attack against Donald Trump. Moreover, my viewpoints are not based on "liberal Trump hating talking points," but actually listening to what the man has said, what he is saying currently, and what he has written in his Tweets... in a word, reality.

I'm sure you are smart enough to know that I am talking about motivation, not the mechanics of the voting process. If we are going to play the game of assigning motivations based on the limited choices in the voting booth, then I can make the accusation that you voted for Trump based on your approval of his "Access Hollywood" comments, since you obviously approve of him grabbing women and trying to force himself on a married woman. But of course, that would be a stupid argument.

It's not a misrepresentation to say you chose who you perceived to be the lesser of two evils because that's exactly what you did.
I voted strategically for the better result. I won't quite say "lesser of two evils," because I cast a ballot for some Republicans that I don't care for to hold Ms. Clinton accountable. I lost all the way around.

But this: [reference to my conviction that both Clinton and Trump would face impeachment and removal from office in their first term]

Why would you assume any such thing? Impeachment and removal has NEVER happened in this country's history.
I assumed such at thing because I knew the character of both Ms. Clinton and Mr. Trump. I know you wrote this a couple of weeks ago, but impeachment is about to happen for Mr. Trump, and there is a possibility that he might be removed from office since he has turned into a huge liability for Republicans. They have painted themselves into a corner with Trump. If they get rid of him, that probably won't remove the stain of three years of defending Trump's abuses. If they keep him, they will likely be annihilated in the next election.

That's a dailykook strategy.
I don't know what you are trying to say here, but it is not a strategy. It is a recognition of the sad state of American politics.

LOL, you really think the Democrat Party would have held Hillary accountable?
You apparently don't understand what I wrote... I voted for Republicans to hold Ms. Clinton accountable.

Are the House Democrats "too cowardly" to hold Trump accountable for his collusion with Russia you bought into lock stock and barrel?
Some are, but most are not. We can see that now.

"presenting your position fairly"? Either you voted for Trump or you voted for Hillary. You voted for Hillary, and that's only what I said.
No, I voted against Trump.

Is it still Mueller time?
That part is over. Mueller demonstrated Trump's crimes of obstruction, and that may come into play in the coming weeks.

This is where you are going way wrong. I don’t defend or intend to defend every little thing Trump may or may not have done or said. Not my job. I’m looking at the big picture, not at my Christian brethren who just like to nitpick (cf. “strain at a gnat and swallow a camel”) or allow themselves to be deceived by the twisted rhetoric of the Progressive Left media.

One now has to work very hard indeed (with closed eyes, fingers in ears, & screaming) to deny Dems (and RINOs) are conspiring at all levels to maintain power at the expense of the country. Obama was the wakeup call that turned on the light. But Trump has brought them out of the woodwork for all to see.

It just seems like Trump supporters defend everything he does because the left's constant attacks on Trump fail each and every time, wonder why that is so?

I assumed such at thing because I knew the character of both Ms. Clinton and Mr. Trump. "Mr. Trump". "Ms. Clinton" . . . it was you. "Mrs. Warren", how politically correct. Impeachment and removal will NEVER happen and the RNC have raised twelve million dollars in just a few days. Trump is NOT unpopular with the GOP base and he's going nowhere. He will also win a second term, "Mr. Biden" and "Mrs. Warren": can't cut it. Try try try again, Trump is always several steps ahead of them.

Pelosi is the one in the painted corner. But a neverTrumper will never believe that, Trump is the great white whale and they are Captain Ahab.
