Yes, it does not make sense that Jesus would marvel at his fellow countrymen's unbelief if faith is a gift. Would Jesus not know these person's were not given faith? The verse implies that he expected them to have faith, many miracles had been performed before their eyes.
God provides to the sinner the "salvation process", and once saved by hios mercy and grace, we can also 'grow up" and build up our levels of faith, as that is based upon reading/hearing the Bible, and acting upon that accordingly!
and the Romans faith at that time not 'saving faith" in Jesus as messiah, but was that he saw He had authority/power to do miracles, and believed that he could do same for Him as a healing miracle!
Likewise, it does not make sense that he marvelled at the centurion's great faith if faith is a gift. Did he not know or forget the centurion was given great faith?[/QUOTE
See above, again NOT saving faith in Chrsit the messiah, but believed what he saw Jesus perform, and belived could do healing for him!
]So, these verses, plus the many verses where Jesus said "your faith" or "thy faith" show faith belongs to the person expressing it.
That said, no person could believe without God's grace. If we did not have God's word that reveals Jesus to us, no man could possibly believe in Jesus (Rom 10:14, 17). So, if we have faith, the credit goes to God who enabled us to believe.
So you agrree with us that man does NOT have inherit within him faith, that God has to enable man to respond to Gospel to be saved?
