Look at it logically. Would the officer intentionally kill Floyd in front of video and witnesses?
That is a good point. But then again, why would he stay on Mr. Floyd’s neck for 2:45 sec after being told a pulse could not be detected? If he testifies, maybe he will shed light on his motives.

Peace to you

Because he is stupid. If stupidity was a crime, he deserves a life sentence. I honestly would like to see him found guilty of a crime because what he did was so stupid, BUT I do not see a crime. I see a civil suit with a 5 to 7 million dollar payout, but I dont see a crime.

When this first happened, I posted we should give the LEO’s the benefit of the doubt. That is my “default setting” in these kinds of incidents.

When I saw the video, I saw a crime. Whatever else you say about Mr. Floyd and his life, that man was in police custody. The LEOs had a legal obligation to take care of him. They had a legal obligation to cause no harm.

I understand the impulse to stand for law enforcement, because I do it too. But to call this an act of “stupidity” is an attempt, in my opinion, to excuse an act of pure evil.

Those men are not stupid. They had to know that staying on top of Mr. Floyd for 2:45 secs after he was unconscious, unresponsive and with no detectable pulse, would cause great harm, and put his life in jeopardy.

I’ve said all I can, probably more than folks wanted to hear. You said I’m appealing to emotion and maybe I’m too emotional about this incident.

I sincerely appreciate all the comments and the back and forth conversations.

I’ll take a break now.

peace to all

....I understand the impulse to stand for law enforcement....

This is fake news. Nearly every conservative on TV and everywhere else condemned this act right on the spot. The most adamant police supporters were horrified at what they saw. There was no pro cop impulse anywhere on this case. Most believed this was some kind of murder.

Then we learned he was dying from a fentanyl overdose. Many now, including yourself, see this was not a murder, but likely just reckless stupid behavior that wouldn't have killed, nor even injured a healthy man.

I think there was a crime, but if they overcharge, he'll walk.

So what does the DA do ?
Charge the LEO to keep the public happy - and possibly loose the case?

OR make a lesser charge - that would stick

Assuming that he is quility

This a baseless charge. I didn’t mention the media or how this was being reported. I was speaking of myself and those who had the impulse to stand for law enforcement, and yes, he had that impulse and I’m sure I wasn’t alone. I changed my mind when I saw the full video.

Since this is clearly a baseless charge, I expect you to recant the statement or add it to your “top 10” list.

peace to you

I was using fake news in a more figurative sense, not regarding media reporting. And saying you changed after seeing the video is a little strange. The video was the first thing we all saw on this. If you hesitated after seeing the video, you'd be very unique.

When this first started, the video I saw was only a few secs and just showed Mr. Floyd being restrained. Only later did I find a link with the full tape.

And using the phrase, “fake news” to refer to anything other than news is strange indeed. You then gave as evidence of my statement as “fake news” by referring to news reports. Baseless charge. Recant or add to your “top 10” list.

As far as being “unique”, as I stated, my impulse is to stand with law enforcement.

peace to you
