It is a fact that holding another's hand is an act which effects the heart rate. That shows it distracts one more, so that his concentration is taken away and towards that person holding his hand.

It's also a fact that stroking your pet cat or dog affects the heart rate and lowers the blood pressure.

I have often prayed to God while petting my cat or dog. I didn't find it distracting at all.

I also don't find it distracting to hold my Christian sister or brother's hand while praying. If that makes you uncomfortable, then you shouldn't do it. But you should not judge others for it. That's when you step over the line from Christian liberty to judgmental Pharisee.

That's a stereotype. There are gay men who look like lumberjacks and wipe their noses on their shirtsleeves and spit tobacco and wouldn't know how to tend to the needs of other if you wrote it out on a piece of paper for them.

I think some here are confusing sensitivity with femininity. Those two words are not synonymous.

The word sensitive and sensitivity are not in the Bible (at least, not the the KJV and that's the only version that I looked in).

But femininity is described in the Bible. Here's the description of how women should act and be:

• Proverbs 31:30 - “Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting, but the woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.” (Our most important feminine attribute is our fear of the LORD)
• 1 Peter 3:3-4 - “A woman’s adorning of herself shouldn’t be outward. Hairstyles, jewelry, clothes….this doesn’t make the woman. It should be the hidden qualities of the heart – a meek and quiet spirit – which greatly pleases God and He considers to be a high price”(Self-explanatory - and by-the-by, "meek" means to be like Jesus. He said Himself for us to "Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart..." in Matthew 11:29. And according to Strong's concordance, the word "quiet" is better translated as "peacable." It has nothing to do with keeping one's mouth shut.)
• Proverbs 11:22 - “Like a gold ring in a pig’s snout is a beautiful woman who shows no discretion.” (Superficial outward appearances are not what constitute the worth of a woman as the world would have us believe......it's character and integrity)
• Proverbs 31:25 - "Strength and honor are her clothing...." (self-explanatory)

Sensitivity is not a girly thing. It's being wise enough and selfless enough to ascertain the needs of others and to meet them. And in a man - that's a very attractive thing.

I was merely replying to your mixing up the words sensitivity and femininity. I'm not defending anyone.

You don't understand sexuality if you think that one's attraction to another is based only on the outward appearance.

Understand that not only is deviant sex condemned in the Scriptures, but feminine, or soft, tendencies in men, 1 Cor. 6:9.

Angry and insensitive I think would be more fitting. I never realized the anger that extreme fundamentalism arouses in its participants. Although I can imagine the frustration that must be associated with trying to meet the standards and with trying to force everyone else into their mold.

Insensitivity would be the opposite of sensitivity and would mean that you are a jerk, male or female.

Sensitivity simply means you take the feelings of others into consideration and act accordingly.


So you can either be sensitive (a considerate person).

Or you can be insensitive and be a jerk.


Sensitivity is not just a feminine quality. I think Jesus was extremely sensitive to the needs of others and there was nothing feminine about Him.

Aaron, I think you need to be careful when you insinuate such things. I know you enjoy making outrageous postings to get attention, and often you have excellent input and insight. But, this time you are pushing the envelop too far.

I attend a mens only Sunday school class composed of mostly elderly men. In fact, at 58 years old I am the youngest member by at least 10 years. We have a wonderful teacher, and I wouldn't trade classes with anyone. At the end of our class we all stand and form a prayer circle and one man closes in prayer. For anyone to even remotely suggest deviant behavior connected with this act of worship is akin to blasphemy! A couple of you posters need to be careful in your assumptions concerning acts of worship and fellowship among God's people!

I insinuated no such thing. There is, however, an effeminacy in the church that needs to be addressed. Proper decorum in worship means that gender differences are observed. The compulsory requirement in some churches to join hands or engage in other forms of softness are neither spiritual nor Scriptural.

(When the guy in the pulpit says, "Let's all join hands," then it's compulsory.)

Sorry, some cannot tell the difference between a bible mandate and a creature preference. Why would any Christian try to suggest what you did is beyond Christian charity in your quote before. The laying on of hands is not the same thing; one is towards the other and from a presbytery to show approval to the one receiving. The other, holding hands, is a joint action from one to another and back. Not quite the same is it?

If you want to show affection to your cat that is your business, but when you call others a pharisee it gets reported. I won't waste my time reporting it because I don't want to be seen as being so childish

Come on guys... if you lose your manly feeling by holding a man's hand while praying.. maybe you didn't have it to begin with!

How many here see that the same bunch of men that is afraid of becoming gay if they hold another man's hand is the same bunch that thinks a woman's place is at home, barefoot and pregnant?

I say these men are sissies!... they are not secure enough in their manhood to touch another man's hand.. and at the same time are scared of the women becoming equal to them...

And this time I am not trying to be extreme...

IF You are afraid of women so much you have to "keep them in their place"... and you don't feel like a man while holding another man's hand while praying...
