I was At Ft Rich when you were at Elmerdorf
I never made it to Fort Richardson. I worked rotating shifts and had small children so I didn't go very many places. I remember being pregnant ALL of the time! (I had five children in 6 1/2 years!). :)

Do you remember the Christmas star that was placed on the mountain side at Alyeska or girdwood? I always knew it was time for Christmas when they turned it on. I still look for it to this day, even though it's only in my memories -- especially since I live in the lower 48 now.

Take care and God bless you.

Alaska was nice -- most of the GIs said they extended because of the great hunting and fishing - well I don't enjoy either of those activities. Otherwise, due to other circumstances, (which I will not go into) I did not really enjoy it.

I understand. I don't hunt and fish either and as for eating Salmon -- well, that's a no go. I'm sorry that other things were going on at the time. I hope they've been favorably resolved or that you have healed from them.

Take care and God Bless you!

I have two young 18-year old twin nephews that are in the Air Force that are in boot camp. As they love to do things together. While one is embracing it , the other is having such a very hard time. Please be in thought and prayer for them. As hopefully it will all work out. In it for four years.

I'm sorry to hear that one of your nephews is having a difficult time. When I went through boot camp, it was only six weeks long and I didn't have the big warrior test at the end of it. However, I was 18 at the time and had a knot in my tummy for a week after I arrived. I finally settled down when I realized that they weren't going to hurt me. LOL. I guess I had watched too many movies.

What is your nephew's name? I'll add him to my prayer book.

Take Care and God Bless!

Heard he is getting used to it. Not easy but he is getting used to the hang of it. As he is just both twin sick and home sick. Praying for him and Brady as they graduate July 29th!

I'm glad to hear this! Will they be allowed to come home for leave after they graduate or do they go straight to tech school? When I graduated boot camp (1979) we had to go to our tech schools. there had been too many people who went AWOL after boot camp when they went home on leave!

I remember my time there. It was difficult, but worth it. Once he gets to tech school, it should be easier for him. He'll have time to himself and freedom to do what he wants and go where he wants. There will still be responsibilities and class, but the evenings and weekends will be his.

still praying for him!

I’m sure this has been asked more than once, but the landscape has changed on the BB. I was just wondering how many military (current and former) we have here. What services are represented?
Enlisted in US Army reserve in 1978. Had basic training and AIT at FT. Bliss (16R), but surprise, there were no ADA reserve units near to me. So went to Chem School at Ft McClellan and was a 54C in reserve. Later enlisted in active Army, was in Germany two years and was later with COSCOM in the states. Fortunately was never actually shot at!
I have never used VA services at all.

I would at least check on your eligibility. When my wife lost her job and our insurance, I started using the VA for all my health care. Depending on your location, the VA health system can be good or horrible. The San Francisco and Palo Alto VAs are good to excellent.

If nothing else, I get my meds and refills through the mail for free. CPAP supplies for free.

I'm glad VA worked out for you SR. Some people have really depended on it. I was fortunate enough to have healthcare from my employer after I got out. But am looking forward to that free headstone someday :Wink
