My husband and I both served in the Navy. He served for 22 years and I served for just over 20 years We are both Desert Storm vets who served in country. Part of me still misses shipboard life.

I served in the Navy, was a Jet Engine Mechanic stationed in Sicily, mostly VR-24 (decom now....), am a Beirut Veteran our squadron having supported the operations going on at that time. Flew from Sicily to the USS Independence which was off Beirut, took a cat shot and was then routed to Cyprus where I had to swap out a fodded motor in a H-53 that was grounded. When in Cyprus thought it was pretty awesome to hear the "Battleship New Jersey" shooting its 16" guns in part of the shelling of Beirut, Lebanon.
Most of the Gunners Mates were twice my age as the Navy recruited them back in service because no one knew how to operate the big guns. I was not in the Marine Barracks when it blew up, however arrived in Frankfurt the same time as the wounded Marines, was put on same floor, wing, etc. of the hospital and heard first hand what went down. Went to Physical Therapy with many of them as well.............those Marines were tough as nails.
Am 100% disabled, retired from US Navy, am in a chair- but no complaints as good Lord sees fit to take care of me.
Got saved in 2001 and have been trying to serve the Lord ever since. Was ordained a couple years ago, am a Volunteer Chaplain at a local State Veterans Home and am County Chaplain for my American Legion District (am also Commander of my Post). I don't say all that to gloat, but am endeared to our fellow military brothers and sisters and to serve them as best I can- not to mention get the gospel in there where some have accepted the shed blood of Jesus Christ and are now counted as part of the elect, body of Christ........many having departed are now with the Lord.
Philippians 1:23 For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:
2 Corinthians 5:8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.
Years ago was humbled that the Lord allowed me to lead a 101 year old veteran to Jesus Christ- talk abt mercy and long-suffering! Have a weekly Bible Study, but the younger guys today mostly are not interested. They want to be entertained, made to feel good, want food-drinks provided for them............and any preaching on sin they mostly get up and walk out- thin skinned.

You forget to mention the old C-1 Trader and the venerable C-2 Greyhound.
I thought I put a pix of a C-1 Trader in there? Was most dependable plane we had?
Yes sir I have thousands of hours working on the C-2, not so much the C-1.
I was an ADJ vs ADR (reciprocating) where the 1820 Pratt and Whitney’s mostly had older sailors who worked on them?
Being an airdale sailor was fun. I got thrusted into H-53’s and their T-64 engines. The good ol Navy shipped out everybody who was qualified on them and guess who was picked to tackle them? I loved working on them though. Our helicopters were left over from Vietnam and once inside you could see where they were patched from receiving ground fire. Ours were the older 2 engine delta’s bs the newer 3 engine echoes that could haul a lot more weight.
I hear they are doing away with the C-2’s......[emoji30]
Also worked on E-2’s and P-3’s and was QA
Went to Embry Riddle Aeronautical University after they retired me, but my disability held me back from working in the industry. Was hoping to get a position with the NTSB.......however since I had hand damage and wobbly on my legs at the time they could not use me.
Lord had other plans anyway......

No but did see one hang off the angle deck saw one almost go down in the water from taking a cold cat. Thankfully they were pretty much empty.
We had a LCDR who supposedly inverted a C-2 and his Navy career was pretty much done.
Many of our C-2, C-1 pilots were flunkies who couldn’t fly a fighter.......
Of course they would never admit it.

I was stationed at MCAS Eltoro in the 80's. As an MP we often pulled flight-line duty. Out in southern cal every once in a while the santa ana winds would kick up. I guess they forgot to tie down the chopper. Those things weigh almost nothing and leaked hydraulic fluid like a sieve. Any one night here they come and there it went upside down and gallivantin down the flight-line like it has somewhere to go.

Get out of here and no kidding! Very familiar with El Toro.....spent time at what was NAS Miramar for a time- Fighter Town USA.
That had to be a sight? I was going to ask you if the flight line you were talking bout was land based or aboard ship? Regardless someone got in someones grits for sure
Mostly went to Navy schools there[emoji848] Loved it out there, tried to stay and go West Pac, but was unable.
Before I accepted Christ and when I was in California I was a chemical engineer unfortunately[emoji43]
That was one partying town for sure. Got my first tattoo there, which I am not proud of.
Just an old hippie preacher that loves the Lord, his book and bleed red, white and blue.

I went in lucky. I got the MOS of my dreams- 19D in 1992. Sadly my knees couldn't handle it, and through the pain and garbage by the CO and NCOs, I ended up getting chaptered out. That was the worst time of my life. To finally reach a dream, and then lose it all while in arm's reach. When I got out I asked about a medal they have listed, National Defense Service Medal, and I was told I got it because I served during a declared war even though I did not serve in combat or complete training. I asked about other guys in my unit that I knew were chaptered out as well, but they didn't get one. Couldn't figure it out until I was told by JAG that those that get it had dismissed under honorable conditions, those that didn't get it were dismissed under less than honorable conditions.
And still to this day the VA says I never served because I didn't serve a minimum of 180 days or 90 days in combat. SMH.

Hey everyone. New to this forum. I was active duty Air Force Security Forces for sixteen years. Stationed at Seymour Johnson, NC; Lackland, TX; Camp Bullis, TX; Osan AB, Korea; Hickam, Hawaii; Kunsan, Korea; Elmendorf, Alaska. I retired in 2017 after being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. I currently live in New York (upstate). Also attending Liberty University Online.

But I did serve awhile in Military Police when I returned to the states at MCRD in San Diego and at USNB Long Beach both in Southern California from 1966 to 1969 when I got out... Hi -
US Army - worked in Supply and also had a Admin MOS as well. Stationed in USAEUR twice, Ft Hood twice and finished up in Alaska. 6th and 8th Inf Div, First CAV Div, Second Armored Div.
When were you at Elmendorf?
And I was always very nice to the MP!
I was at Elmendorf from 2014-2017. Now Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson.

My youngest now been a marine for past year, soon to be a Corporal, and must be into punishment, as after serving his obligation to the Corp, wants to become a navy Seal!
