Military Service

[Eternally Grateful]

I joined the navy in 1983, Went to boot camps at Great mistakes, Spent 4 years as a hospital corpsman. The congress turned Reagan’s request for 600 ships down. So they cut off most reenlistments. So I ended up getting out. But could not find a job, So I re-entered in the United Stated Coast Guard. Where I spent 11 years before I was medically retired for an injured back. Retired in 1996 after 16 years.

I'm retired Army (91F/68W, 12B, and 79R) and AGR in the TNARNG (79T). You know, it just hit me that while I enjoy talking about the military and being around military people, I don't miss it. This amazes me (I loved the service, and after 23 years I really thought it would be a difficult transition to civilian life, but it wasn't). I do, of course, think about my military service every time I climb a latter or have to ask people to repeat what they just said.

Huh? Almost everyday the wife of 46years tells me I need hearing aids. I tried em once and hated them! Uncle Sam's Misguided Children, 0311. Rifleman.

Yep I need them. Lost a lot of my hearing hanging around too many Jets on MCAS Eltoro. The very reason I am now on disability with the VA. I was 5811 Station MP's.

Yeah I was Marine MP at the US Naval Station in Long Beach and if its true Marines according to Chesty are in the brig... Then I guess our bad conduct by helping to put them there should be in question... Which bears the question... Was Chesty ever in the brig?... Brother Glen
