N.Y. Hospital To Stop Delivering Babies After Dozens Of Staff Members Quit Over Vaccine Mandate

New York hospital said it will be forced to stop delivering babies after dozens of staff members quit over vaccine mandates. In a recent announcement, the Lewis County General Hospital said the number of resignations received in the maternity department has left them with no choice but to pause delivering babies.

This comes after at least 30 employees quit in protest of the facility’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate. In the meantime, health care administrators are reportedly working on what they called “contingency plans” in the event of future resignations.

Chief Executive Officer of the Lewis County Health System Gerald Cayer said he hopes this will just be a temporary pause on operations in the maternity ward. “If we can pause the service and now focus on recruiting nurses who are vaccinated, we will be able to reengage in delivering babies here in Lewis County,” said Cayer. However, many have stated they will continue to go against the mandate.

I think this is a contingency the nanny state could not foresee in their mandate plan.

And the point is what, exactly?

Nothing here constitutes an argument against vaccine mandates for health care workers. If enough workers refuse to get vaccinated then, of course, services will be affected. But, and of course the OP remains silent on this, if workers do not get vaccinated, they pose a threat to patients.

I would think you left out the word "potential"
ie: if workers do not get vaccinated, they pose a potential threat to patients.

Several police Unions are refusing to comply as well.

This is strictly true, but perhaps misleading.

If, repeat if, you are trying to imply that if healthcare workers do not get vaccinated, they might not be a threat after all, I think you are up against statistics. Yes, a particular unvaccinated worker may never get covid. Or, if they get it, they may never transmit it.

But over large numbers, it is basically a certainty that, on average, the unvaccinated healthcare worker is more of a threat than the vaccinated worker.

Evasive and irrelevant.

The answer is "no", but readers will surely notice that you are evading the point - that, as a group, unvaccinated workers pose more of a threat than vaccinated workers.

In another place, Lewis County Health System CEO Gerald Cayer is quoted as saying, “We are not alone. There are thousands of positions that are open north of the Thruway and now we have a challenge to work through, you know, with the vaccination mandate.” In general in our area, the workforce is depleted and businesses are continuously advertising “Help wanted.”

How am I implying that they will NOT be a threat..

I was careful in my wording - I asked if you were implying they were not a threat.......

Clearly, one could try to imply that since an unvaccinated worker is only a threat once they get covid and transmit it, that it is premature to say they are a threat in the present. My point was that such a line of reasoning does not work.

The unvaccinated worker with natural immunity is the smallest threat. Maybe you should require all healthcare workers to get Covid.

I am getting more and more confused. When I tested positive for Delta my doc said" get vaccinated 30 days from now and you will be bullet proof against Delta. Well, you probably bullet proof against Delta now anyway. I heard this morning that G and MU have been confirmed in Athens. I have been told vaccine is very ineffective against MU. Do whatever you want."

My doctor never turns paying customers away. Sometimes they stay until 9pm.
We have to be close to hitting herd immunity against Delta variant.
