New Doctor Who

Both Derek Jacobi (Professor Yana) and John Simm were brilliant as the Master.

Don, if you can, find a way to see Last of the Time Lords the way it was aired in the UK. They chopped quite a bit out of the story in order to fit it in Skiffy's timeslot. Here's a list of things you missed.

Tom and Martha had more to say, including the fact that she was seen as a legend around the world.

The Master entered the command deck of the Valiant singing and dancing to a song called "I Can't Decide". If you ever hear it, it's very catchy. I couldn't get that song out of my head for like 2 weeks after LotTL. The lyrics are very fitting. Here they are.

I can't decide whether you should live or die
Oh you'll probably go to heaven
please don't hang your head and cry
I wonder why my heart is dead inside
cold and hard and petrified
Lock the doors, pull the blinds we're going for a ride

Oh I could throw you in the lake
or feed you poisoned birthday cake
I won't deny I'm gonna miss you when you're gone
Oh I could bury you alive but you might crawl out with a knife
and kill me when I'm sleeping that's why
I can't decide whether you should live or die
Oh you'll probably go to heaven
please don't hang your head and cry
I wonder why my heart is dead inside
cold and hard and petrified
Lock the doors, pull the blinds, we're going for a ride

You also missed the Master kissing his wife when he first came on deck, and he was singing that song to her. You also missed the fact that she's a battered wife (she has a black eye). Unless you know she's a battered wife, it doesn't make sense for her to chant "Doctor" when he starts being restored.

BTW, I don't think I mentioned it when LotTL first aired, but the relationship between the Master and Lucy was written and acted brilliantly by both of them.

Another thing you missed was where the Doctor was forced to live for a year. He had a tiny little tent on the command deck that had straw on the floor and a dish labeled "dog" outside the tent.

You missed Jack's line about his "hotel accommodations". "That's the last time I book over the Internet." Snerk.

Somebody on Skiffy's Doctor Who forum, who didn't like LotTL and was complaining about it, said that he would have liked to have seen some of what happened during the year that the Master was in control. I have to say that I couldn't disagree more. We had enough of a glimpse as it was, and it was more than enough for me. The Master had beaten the Doctor and spent the year humiliating him. Who wants to see more of that. I saw enough as it was, thanks. BTW, why did the Master make Japan burn?

"You're the only one to get out of Japan alive."

Anyway, I'm sure it wasn't hard for Martha to figure out that she needed to stay. I'm sure her family had nightmares about the year that wasn't. I was so into the story that I had nightmares about the Toclafane in the week between SoD and LotTL.

Now, it's time for some speculation about Voyage of the Damned.

Kylie Minogue plays a waitress on board the Titanic. Do you what the name of her character is? It's Astrid. What's that an anagram of and what do you think it all means?

In my last post, I linked to an article about the Sontarans coming back in S4. As you may or may not know, the Sontarans are an all male race who populate by cloning. Here's something to think about. Is there a more perfect way for Davros to recreate the Dalek Empire than to steal the Sontaran's cloning technology and clone Dalek Caan? I doubt this would happen, but it's an interesting idea, no?

Did get Jack's line about the hotel accomodations.
Would have liked to have seen the song-and-dance.
Due to no background, I assumed that the telepathic link through Archangel influenced the wife; or that somehow she had finally seen how evil he was. The background on that one would have been appreciated.
Agree with you about the scifi whiner. It's called "being asked to use your brain"; unfortunately, some people prefer not to think on their own.

Astrid. Sorry, no anagram I can think of makes sense.

By Don:

The actor played the Master much more gleefully (and maniacally, I might say) than in the older series with Pertwee and others. He had fun with the role.

Derek and John! Best! Masters! Ever!

By Don:

But I absolutely loved the line: "they called me the face of Bo." Beautiful.

UG! I have to pass on that one...After New Earth and Gridlock I was hoping for more back-story on the Face of Boe, but since THAT line I've just been curled up in a corner whimpering....

Billie Piper to Parkinson re Rose reprise:

“I don’t think it will happen any time soon but the door is slightly ajar....It’s such a lovely part but I tried to do it the other day and I couldn’t do it - I can’t do Rose any more! I was having a go the other day, I saw David Tennant the other day in fact, and we were just having a laugh - and yes, Rose wasn’t so good!”

Can't link to web-page, some iffy photos there.....

ok, I'm a big Rose fan-boy, but bringing her back after Doomsday would be "BAD" (...that's the Ghostbusters definition of "BAD" - Try to imagine all life as you know it stopping instantaneously and every molecule in your body exploding at the speed of light. for those of you who missed the year 1984.) Just leave her pining for (the Doc in) the fjords.....

If there's Daleks in that episode I hope Kylie is first to go....I saved emoticons just for now :praying: Actually it would be the perfect occasion to feature the first ever time the Doctor fires a gun... :praying: Or can we get Blon Fel-Fotch Passameer-Day Slitheen back in a bad mood? :praying: ...or...oh just sink the thing and be done with it ;)

For that episode I'm mainly interested to see how they explain R.M.S. Titanic breaking into the TARDIS after so many other things have tried and failed over the years. Perhaps the TARDIS was as weakened by LAME (Love And Monsters Episode) as the rest of us? *wink*

....and bed time here, big day ahead tomorrow.

nite all.

Astrid. Sorry, no anagram I can think of makes sense.

How about this one? TARDIS

I think it was S2 where the Doctor stated that the TARDIS was grown, not made. This makes it a living thing and it was in distress in the last 2 episodes. I believe the anagram this time is deliberate and I think Voyage of the Damned will be about a TARDIS in distress after The Year That Wasn't.

Not weakend by LAME, but weakened by the Master turning it into a Paradox Machine. Remember the cloister bell going off in Sound of Drums? I think the anagram, coupled with the sickness of being a paradox machine did a number on the TARDIS.

I think Rose coming back would be a huge mistake. Considering how time passes quicker in the Age of Steel Universe, I think she's had enough time by now to get over the Doctor. Also, the Doctor lived an entire year in a pup tent, and I think he's over Rose.

This site, the one Pete linked to recently, has a bit of rubbish on it. For example, 403 is listed as Planet of the Ood. That is the right title for the story. However, it won't be the 3rd story of S4, but the 2nd story.

BTW, here's some good news for S4. Steven Moffat will be writing a 2-part story for it. He wrote the following stories.

The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances
The Girl in the Fireplace
Blink

Wiki says Astrid = "Divine Beauty"...Kylie = ??? NAHHHHHHH

cc, I love the Astrid/TARDIS idea, but after "That's a bit Ood..." and "Judoon on the moon..." I'ld be expecting more an "Astrid/APHID" thing

When rumours started about 10 leaving going back a bit I started noticing all the damage he was doing to himself in last couple of seasons and wondered when the regeneration would come.....but now you have me doing it withe the TARDIS hahaha

I recently realised something else has been majorly bothering me too....I'm too young for Sarah Jane, too old for Rose, and they both have a big thing for the Doctor anyway :BangHead: :tonofbricks: :wavey:

So I'm here updating my sim racing spreadsheets and enjoying some of my music and what starts playing but the Doctor Who theme for 5, which is one of my favorite renditions of the theme. I got to thinking and remembering something that I think you guys will think is very cool.

I don't remember exactly what we've said about Peter Davison as the Doctor, but I think we're in agreement that whatever sins were committed during that time were the fault of John Nathan-Turner. It was hard for me to warm up to Peter because he followed Tom Baker, but Davison was very good as the Doctor. Even though the TARDIS was a bit crowded during his time, he still carried the show quite capably.

If you liked Peter Davison as the Doctor, get ready to see him reprise his role during the Children in Need special, confirmed here. I think this is pretty cool.

Then there's this, which is even more incredibly cool.
Source

Christopher Ryan, best known for playing super-cool Mike in the classic comedy series The Young Ones, is set for a guest-starring role in an upcoming Series Four adventure.

Ryan will play a Sontaran leader in the story, due to begin filming in the next few weeks.

Welcome back old "friends"! ......Even if newbies will think you are Judoon.....
Peter Davison....Poor old 5. After years of being spoilt with 3 & 4 I just couldn't handle him. Only watched a few stories and gave up on him....then when heard another Doc was coming - and his name was Baker - I turned it back on again...for a story or two again ;) I think I looked at McCoy once and that was enough.

Next time Auntie ABC screens the old Whos here I'll try and give 5-7 another chance...they can't help not being 9 I guess... :)

I already linked that item about the Sontarans in S4. :D

Only watched a few stories and gave up on him....

I know. Peter's 1st season was rather lackluster, except for Earthshock. His 2nd season was much better and the 3rd season was a bit below S2, but better than his S1. I don't know if ironic is the right word, but it's weird that his best story was his last story.

Colin Baker's tenure was the low-point of DW. Mark of the Rani was decent, but don't get me started on the awful Twin Dilemma and Revelation of the Daleks. Trial of a Time Lord was, in the end, completely pointless and they even managed to screwup the theme song for the season. Bad all the way around.

You should give a few of 7's stories a go, except maybe Delta and the Bannermen. Remembrance of the Daleks and Silver Nemesis are pretty good and if Davros does come back in S4, Remembrance is useful for seeing what happened the last time he was on-screen. I didn't like Survival at all.

The less we say about 8's "half-human" comment the better. :tonofbricks:

Oh, I don't know. Davison was a bit of a mixed bag for me. His S1 typifies it: Castrovalva - OK; Four to Doomsday - rubbish (especially the bit where he 'jumps' to the TARDIS); Kinda - good, even though it has the awful Nerys Hughes in it; Black Orchid - rubbish; The Visitation - good; Earthshock - good (if nothing else because Adric gets killed at the end); Timeflight - OK I guess.

Oh, and I agree that The Caves of Androzani was his best.

Colin's Doctor was rubbish and Sylv's stories were largely just weird eg: Ghostlight and The Curse of Fenric have more holes in their plots than a fisherman's net. No 7 was also ruined for me by having the awful Bonnie Langford (a walking and - sadly - talking advert for contraception if ever I saw one) with him for quite a bit of the time.

We knew about this already, but this article has a pic of the TARDIS crew and the new Sontaran look. Considering how the Sontarans reproduce, I don't quite understand the giant codpiece.

Also, Doctor Who and DT won awards at the National TV Awards (called the National Trash Awards by a Skiffy poster) last week. When are the BAFTAs anyway? As I understand it, those are the most coveted awards.

I had the same thought, but there still needs to be a reason within the show for the way they look. Maybe RTD is reinventing them like he did the Cybermen?

That's Ok, Pete, I have a thing for Freema Agyeman. :)

Matt, did you see the Children in Need special? Thoughts? I understand it was fairly short, and speculation on Skiffy is that we'll see it posted on youtube today. Whoever finds it first, please post a link. :)

Not yet - it's not due to be screened until this evening (it is currently 3-20pm here) but I understand it features Davison as well as Tennant. Will let you know what I think on Monday.
