New Doctor Who

I had simply assumed that River giving her regenerations to save him was how he was able to have more than 12 regenerations. It seems perfect reasoning to me, but everyone who I said that to says it makes no sense.

I disagree. While I never shared it, it's a perfectly reasonable assumption to make.

I just had this epiphany.

I changed my Chrome theme yesterday to one using the crack in the wall as the background. I was just thinking that we still don't know what caused the TARDIS to explode. I had thought for a long time that it was Omega, and it still could be, but try this idea on for size.

It was Rasillon.

Furious with the Doctor for foiling his plan in The End of Time, he's the one who initiates the explosion before Gallifrey is sent back. Or, perhaps he did it between the time that Gallifrey returned in The End of Time and was shunted off to the pocket universe in The Day of the Doctor. The TARDIS explosion caused the cracks in the universe and he thought the Doctor would be naive enough to answer the Time Lords, thus giving them their way back.

He may have even been the one who sent the Artron energy through, so the Doctor could have another regeneration cycle. It would have had nothing to do with love for the Doctor and everything to do with self-preservation, since the Doctor is the only one who would be able to bring them back.

Oh, btw, I don't believe the explanation that the Silence caused the explosion. Or, to put it more correctly, maybe they actually did, but they were used by Rasillon to do the job.

Didn't the Tardis explode in The Big Bang? So how could it happen between EoT or TDotD? Maybe the exploding Tardis in Big Bang caused the crack in time? Like the Dalek bomb in Pertwee's Day of the Daleks. Or the crack in time caused the Tardis to explode which caused the crack in time. Or something.

Anyway, the cause of the exploding Tardis is another dangling plot point left by Moffatt. I think he finds the crack in time useful as a place to stuff his unresolved plots.

It exploded at the end of The Pandorica Opens right after the Doctor is forced in and The Pandorica closes.

What I'm trying to answer is what caused it to explode? Are we to believe that the Silence somehow snuck into the TARDIS and caused it to explode? Neither the Doctor, nor River, ever leave it unlocked, or the door open, so how did the Silence get in to blow it up? I don't think so.

I think Rassilon started a countdown in the TARDIS, likely once the Doctor shot the White Point Star and Rassilon knew his plan had failed. If he can throw the White Point Star out of the Time Lock to Earth, then starting the countdown to the TARDIS exploding is certainly within his power.

It's also within the character of the man in The End of Time and it advances his plan. Remember, he wanted the collapse of all creation and time to initiate the Ultimate Sanction. If he couldn't get it by bringing Gallifrey back, then getting it by causing the Doctor's TARDIS to explode would have been just fine by him.

What he didn't count on, nor could ever count on, was River Song being in the Control Room at the time of the explosion. I think the TARDIS had a vague idea of something going on and that it was going to happen on June 26, 2010, but she didn't know exactly what was going to happen. She tried mightily to avoid landing at Amy's house that day, but River forced her to. Once River then took off again, the TARDIS worked out what was happening and when she landed, she landed in such a way so that River couldn't get out, which was the only way the TARDIS could keep herself alive.

Anyway, the cause of the exploding Tardis is another dangling plot point left by Moffatt.

You're probably right, and mine is probably just a typical crackpot theory of mine, but I like it. I think I just closed the plot point.

I actually think he used the crack in the universe brilliantly.

On an amusing note, we had a coffee mug with a Tardis on it, which disappeared when you put something hot in the cup and came back when it cooled.
Hand wash only.
My child put it in the dishwasher.
It now appears to just be a mug.
Sad, sad moment when it was discovered.
However, I couldn't help but bust up laughing and point out to my husband that we can't blame anyone for the mishap.
The TARDIS is SUPPOSED to disappear.
Maybe it will come back in ten years?

I have one of those mugs. Washing it by hand does not help much. While the TARDIS hasn't totally peeled off, it's in the process. Nowadays it's just a decoration piece.

Not bad

Evidently, this is what the new Doctor will be wearing.
Not bad. At least he's not a twenty-bopper wearing saggy shorts. I prefer a tie, it lends a bit of dignity and gravitas to a very old man who has never really grown up.

Today, I'm watching The Time of the Doctor for the 2nd time, the first time since it aired.

When Tasha Lem describes the slaughter when the Daleks attacked the Papal Mainframe, she said, "I died in this room screaming your name."

Doctor (talking to the Dalek): She never would have told you how to break through the force field, she would have died first.

Dalek: Several times.

After the Doctor baits Tasha into suppressing the Dalek inside her and coming back, she destroys the Daleks. The Doctor kisses Tasha and they flirt for a bit.

Doctor: I need to get back to the TARDIS, can you do that?

Tasha: Yep, but quickly, the Dalek inside me is waking.

Doctor: Fight it.

Tasha: I can't.

Doctor: Listen to me. You have been fighting the psychopath inside you all your life. Shut up and win. That is an order.

I don't remember if it's been mentioned in this forum or not, but I know there's been questions about who Tasha Lem is. If you were wondering, we've been told who she is. She's River Song. River got out of the library somehow and regenerated. Clearly, she did not use up all her regenerations to save the Doctor in Let's Kill Hitler.

Oh boy. If true, I don't like it. It does explain the flirting and banter. But must Moffat's scripts always connect with his other stories? It's to the point where it's getting so bad it's akin to inbreeding. It's unseemly and pathetic.

As I've said before, I like these kinds of things and Moffat isn't the only one who's done it either. RTD starting setting up the return of the Master in Love and Monsters. I think it's smart writing. Unseemly and pathetic seems pretty harsh, but now we're just talking personal preference and there's no need to argue about personal preference. Especially since I'm clearly right.

I think it all stems from the idea of Moffat wanting to give the Doctor something to do, to give him a purpose. He feels there has to be a purpose in his travels, otherwise the Doctor is, as he puts it, "just farting about the universe."

The reason the Doctor stole a Tardis and left Gallifrey was essentially to "fart around the universe". To see what was out there. Have some adventure. Nowadays almost every adventure he has is tied to some story arc or recurrent character(s). I'm certain you know that Madam Vastra, Jenny and Strax are back. Whatever for? What's wrong with a one-off story?

Because Vastra, Jenny and Strax are awesome.

Nothing wrong with a one-off story. S7 had a bunch of them and I liked them.
