Obama Endorses Mosque Project Near Ground Zero Site

Yes, these people have a right to a worship center. But to build it near ground zero is INCREDIBLY insensitive. And people who don't see that - I don't get it.

Bingo.

How hard was that to put into words?

Is Obama too stupid to formulate a cogent policy such as above--or too in love with muslims and/or PC to care?

Not just Obama -- how can the mayor of New York City be so supportive?

How can anyone in any level of our government be so supportive, unless they are so completely out of touch with the majority of the citizens of this country?

Or is it that they believe they know better than us, and that we need to be "educated"?

Or would you assert that the fire department responding to a fire in the church building is some sort of government intrusion into religious freedom too?

Religious freedom? No. But "separation of church and state?" Yes. Especially with the additional word Absolute put in front of that term, as a presidential candidate once did before the Houston Ministerial Alliance and is commended for it still today.

I'm not objecting to it. I want to know from those those who object, relative or not, how far is far enough in their minds.

I doubt you'll answer this, but I'll try:

What do you think is the intention of those building the mosque?

You don't seriously think this is about "peace, understanding, and tolerance," do you?

I really don't know, and I really don't care.

I support private property rights. I thought that conservatives did, too, but apparently I may be mistaken in that.

Now, can you answer my question?

I agreed with an earlier quote. You must have missed it:

I would think that from my agreement you would understand that the RIGHT is there to build. But it is INSENSITIVE to do so from what is considered "ground zero."

Muslims are known for building buildings at the sites of great conquests.

From Neal Boortz: SOURCE
I understand the organization behind this $100 million dollar Mosque is called the Cordoba Initiative. The Mosque is to be called the Cordoba House. Where did the name come from? The Cordoba region of Spain, that's where. When the Muslims conquered Spain they took a huge Christian cathedral and turned it into the Cordoba Mosque. So the very group planning this Mosque at Ground Zero is named after a Mosque built at the scene of a pervious Muslim conquest.
There are other such mosques:
  • When Muslims conquered they built the Al-Aqsa Mosque
  • When Muslims conquered Constantinople (now Istanbul) they transformed the St. Sophia Basilica into a Mosque
There are reports that our wonderful Muslim friends plan to open this Mosque next year on September 11, 2011? The 10th anniversary of their murder of 3000 people. Now that's some rather incredible timing, don't you think? Wait for another 9/11 and open a Mosque.

I think the truth is pretty self-evident here...

For all who do not oppose the mosque in the vicinity of Ground Zero - would you object to the Klu -Klux Klan from opening a headquarters next to the NAACP esp if their public stated purpose was to promote harmony

By the way, some have brought up freedom of religion - this has nothing to do with religion - it has to do with terrorism.

Likewise if you oppose the KKK from being next door to the NAACP, they could say "This is freedom of religion as we believe the Bible teaches slavery and segregation".

I think Ken is just showing off how "enlightened" he is.

It's not about private property rights: several of us admitted that they have the RIGHT to build there. But that's not enough for Ken, I don't guess.

I suppose if we're "enlightened" enough we will celebrate with the wonderful, loving, peaceful religion of Islam as they build a better world...one mosque-overlooking-a-musilm-terrorist-site at a time...

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/08/12/imam-at-center-of-ground_n_680513.html says the Imam is a real deary.

http://www.nypost.com/p/news/international/imam_unmosqued_0XbZMwCvHAVdRZEKgx29AK may give a different picture.

In our fair city you can't build a church building/addition unless near all of the neighbors, planning commission, and other boards give it an okay.

Can't imagine NY is much different. The powers that be work through all that and the world continues to go round.

Since the thing is morphing as the people involved speak I hope NY officials are wise in their decision. With the morphing this week another week might bring us a terrorist training center, but not to worry, it will be for peace in some perverted way :tongue3:

No, I would not object to such building. Private property rights are private property rights. I don't base my support for private property rights based on the views of those who want to place a building on their property.

Can't you distinguish between someone having the "right" to build, and someone having sensitivity to build somewhere else?

Very few folks here are asking for government infringements of their right to build. I'm not.

But come on...a mosque? Where it happened? Opening on September 11?

Give me a break. That's bad form, and everyone knows it.

It will not be on the ground where "it happened".

Okay, so you folks complaining know you can't stop it from being built, and you don't want to stop it from being built because you believe in property rights. Right? If so, then we agree.

Ken .... your in Arkansas right? Could you give them a great deal on Arkansas property because we few in the NY area don't want to see it here. If that "Type" killed your mother, father, sister, brother, husband, wife, son, daughter, neighbor, friend, business associate etc, would you?

The point is clear. It is not a matter of whether or not they have a right to do this - they do,and freedom of religion is sacrosanct. I would defend their right to build this with my life if need be.

The placement and the timing are the issue

It is bad form, as some one said.
It is cold.
It is insensitive
It is hurtful
It is knowingly offensive
It is 'in your face'

This is hardly what we hear about how wonderful American Islam is. This shows the true face of a religious group who pretend to be part of mainstream America.

Shameful. Let them go ahead and build, but don't cry when Americans don't fall in line to support them.
