..... Would you drink in front of a brother who did not approve? Would you tell the brother you drink and he is wrong for opposing you?...

Well said. That is the precisely the attitude that Paul is admonishing us not to have. Which is more important, your belly or your brother?

Nowhere does it indicate in John Chapter 2 that the wine Jesus made was intoxicating. you have to read that into the text.

For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon.’ The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’ But wisdom is proved right by her deeds.”[Matt. 11:18,19]

If they were accusing Jesus of being a drunkard, I'd suspect he was not drinking Welch's Grape Juice.

Does unregenerate Pharisees accusing the Lord Jesus of being a drunkard really prove that he drank alcohol?

The better question would be why it doesn't bother anyone else to see evangelist6589 constantly bullied?

I feel a bit bad for the guy, but...

Conduct a Google search on his Screen Name. You will find multiple Sites where the same thing has happened. He seems to enjoy the confrontation.

Question. Do you consider correction to be bullying?

They accused Jesus of many things to include being a glutton. The accusations do not means Jesus made fermented wine at the marriage feast.

I believe He did make fermented wine. Also being good doesn't mean being strong. It just meant it was a better tasting wine.

I do not believe scripture says that it is a sin to drink alcohol. Scripture does say to be sober minded. One cannot be sober minded and have more than one drink of alcohol by today's standard. Buzzed is drunk. Buzzed is not sober minded. Buzzed is less drunk but still drunk. If it is illegal to drive because of the amount of alcohol one has consumed then you are not sober minded.

What would be the difference is drinking a glass of alcohol to settle one's nerves than taking a zanax or valium? Both alcohol and benzodiazepines(valium and xanax) are drugs.

Also, better not take any Nyquil...it has 10% alcohol by volume.

They never had mechanical refrigeration (but there were wine presses everywhere). There would be only a short window of a few weeks out of the year in which they could have straight up non-fermented 'grape juice'. Fermentation sets in within hours of the grapes being pressed. Fermentation was a method of food and drink preservation.

Reminds me of a TV show that made a joke about locking up the Sucrets (or another cough-drop brand).

The difference is one is for medicinal purposes and the other is for recreation.

But they both still effect the body with injestation. Even caffeine can been considered a drug...and I am a coffee-junkie. But taking a prescribed drug or a drink of alcohol at home are both within the rules of the law. It is when one drinks in public that it could cause them trouble. Even when one takes a valium or xanax, even as prescribed, it can get them a DUI. Imagine your pastor getting a DUI.

I haven't had a drink of alcohol in almost ten years. Just wanted to let you know my stance is not to justify my drinking. But to castigate a Brother or Sister for drinking an alcoholic beverage with some common sense is foolish.

What about caffeine, which also affects one's mental state (as a stimulant)? Altered is altered, after all.

Ed. To add- Sovereign, did not see your post mentioning caffeine.

Altered is your word not mine not scripture. Be sober minded, Caffeine effects people differently. I can drink a pit of coffee at 11 pm and go to bed and sleep like a baby. If one becomes drunk and are no longer sober minded from caffeine that is an issue. stimulated from coffee and drunk from alcohol are apples and refrigerators.

Is being in a drunken state not being in an altered state?

We are not meaning drunkenness...but consumption only of a drink or two. The bigger a person is, the more they can consume.

In regards to caffeine, I can drink most times and sleep like a baby and sometimes I can drink one cup and my eyes will not close. I drink at least 4 12 oz cups of coffee(leaded and not unleaded :D ) each night I work. Sometimes six. But most times I sleep well, but sometimes...

You can take valium or xanax in accordance to Dr.'s order and still get a DUI. Why? There is a sticker on pill bottles that state to not operate heavy equipment while taking them. Vehicles fall under heavy equipment.
