These statements aren't attributed to Rick Warren...Did you even read who wrote the article/devotional? Get real, bjonson. With an organization as big as Saddleback and PDL, do you think things can't come through that Warren doesn't agree with?

    AVL,

THEY ARE ON HIS PURPOSE DRIVEN WEBSITE!!

I'm sorry for shouting, but don't you see that it is a complete endorsement if it's on his website?

And, no, I don't expect anything should ever get through to his website that he wouldn't personally agree with.

It seems rather obvious that you aren't going to allow facts to get in the way of what you believe...

You have no idea what I believe, bjonson...so you might want to watch what you accuse me or others here of.

    AVL1984,

Why don't you let us all know "what you believe" regarding the devotional article that I posted on this thread? And, the context of my statement is that of Rick Warren's "Purpose Driven Life". I did not refer to any other aspect of your belief.

That is awesome. The Pope should be given positive comments and many of U2's songs (being Irish Catholic) are inspired by biblical passages, many from the psalms of David, both praise and disorientation psalms.

No, it is not a complete endorsement. Rick Warren may simply have an administrator that takes care of the website for him.

Well, if he has an administrator he trusts and something gets through, it just shows that he (Warren) is not perfect - neither are any of us, so get over it.

You have also ignored facts. The main one being that the devotional was written by John Fischer and is the opinion of John Fischer not necessarily that of Rick Warren.

Do you agree with everything your pastor says? Does he agree with everything you say?

bjonson, in case you haven't noticed..neither I nor anyone else is accountable to YOU personally for what we believe. Continue to spout your opinion all you like. Like they say, opinions are like noses...everybody has one....it's just that those who lie about people like Rick Warren should have theirs grow like Pinnochio.

Sorry guys...the fact that a "devotional" praising a rock band and gushing over the Pope should never make it's way to a Christian's website. And, I think you both know that to be true.

AVL1984, you have a particularly rude attitude and I'm sorry that you feel that you have to respond the way you do. It's sad.

Further, AVL1984, please let me know how I "lied about" Rick Warren in this post? You accused me of that and I'd like to see the evidence.

I am never afraid to critique theology that I find to out of line (KJV only, word of faith) but I can't remember being critical of methods, which PDL is. It is a method that worked really well in Southern California. Your getting all bent out of shape up about a method? If you don't like it don't use it!

Did you read the devotional article? The main idea was about the spiritual interest of young people in todays culture. The fact that you don't see a U2 concert as potential place for a worship experience is simple indicator that you don't get it!

But how many pastors, leaders or whatevers of any type of baptist church or denomination have you heard talking about the poverty of Africa and trying do do something about it? What do you think is motivating Bono to such things, perhaps a relationship with the Lord?

No, guess it couldn't be a believer he doesn't blindly vote for Republicans, didn't support the war in Iraq, probably hasn't sang "Nearer My God to Thee" with a droaning organ in quite awhile or have baptist on the church he attends. No, it couldn't be relationship with the Lord.

Right, goto. Evil Southern Baptist Church, in full agreement with the BFM2000. Using SCRIPTURE verses to support their doctrine? No wonder they are hated.

Hey they don't do things the way I do. That is really not my problem.

I did not specifically address YOU as a liar, so you must have been convicted about something, eh? Attributing the devotional as something that Rick Warren personally endorses might or might not be the case. I'll give Warren the benefit of the doubt and say he probably does not agree with everything that is written in that particular devotional. And as far as rudeness goes...Brother, your Pharisaical attitude towards others here takes the cake. Maybe you should try removing the beam from your own eye first.

Yep, Dr. Bob..I have to remember everything I was taught about the SBC when I was an IFBer...just how evil and wicked they were and that they are false believers! NOT! LOL Glad the Lord LED me to them and out of that IFB bondage!

Not me, i was the opposite.. I was in Canaan and went BACK to Egypt.
Consider myself the definitive opinion on SBC-IFB relations and comparisons.. been there on both sides.
I tell folks all the time, go where you feel led. Most people are going to prefer an SBC church and they are growing faster than IFB. Many towns do best to have one IFB church rathern than 10 like in Baton Rouge.
Brainwashing goes on from both sides. Too many folks listen to what others say and cement their thoughts in their mind. I had to correct my IFB hearing pastor before on comments he made about the SBC and had to correct my SBC seminary professors for comments the made about IFB.
I hate the legalistic attitude in the IFB and the liberal attitude in the SBC. Cant say all IFB's are legalists and all sBC-ers are liberal, but the prevalent attitude in some churches is ridiculous.
How about forbidding a BUS KID come into the church to hear the gospel because she is wearing tight pants???.. or a shirt with rock and roll advertisement on it???? Or how about a pastor and his wife that wears Speedo's and two piece bikini (respectively.. of course)at the church barbecue?

Go where God leads and move when He tells you to.. nobody can criticize you for that.

Anyone can say they agree with a doctrinal statement - but if they do adhere to the BFM then why do they not warn against the false gospel espoused by the Pope?

That is the issue - the ministry says one thing but doesn't seem to hold very firmly to it.

You did insinuate that I was lying about Warren but you aren't able to show that I did. That's fine - my point was made.

I believe (and this can't be confirmed) that Warren would be in complete agreement with the devotional because he doesn't seem willing to stir up any doctrinal division. In fact, he once said (and I can provide the citation) that he wasn't interested in straigtening out anyone's doctrine (in reference to Mormons).

Hey, it's all about loving Jesus, right? Finding one's purpose, right?

All right - you all have a great week. I'll be offline for a couple of days.

    God bless,
    Brian

Evidence of that? My son is Director of PDYM (Purpose Driven Youth Ministry) for Rick and he shares what is preached and taught and you are SO FAR WRONG that you are embarrassing yourself on this forum.

Have you sat thru Christianity 101 basic course at Saddleback?
Have you been there each week and listened to the sermons, the teaching, the 2,300 small group meetings last week?

If you want to shoot, have some ammunition. I sure don't agree with Rick and all they do, but you are making a laughingstock out of your hatred by spouting ignorance.
