I was off today, from my job as subway train operator. If I had worked on the A, C, E, N or R lines (they move me all around), I may have been right under it(though I don't know the condition of the 3 subway station and PATH station under the complex). Or I might have been trapped somewhere, as train service halted (I even listened in on my radio). But instead, I was awaken by a phone call,and then was shocked as I turned in the TV. It wass still just flaming at the top at that point. I never would imgine what was yet to come.
My next door neighbor, who is a blessed Christian sister, works IN the WTC. She got out OK. (not sure where she is now, though) Another close Christian friend of mine (and also RevKev) works in the World Financial Center acros the street. He was jus coming up out of the subway, when he saw one tower on fire, and thought it was just a fire. He tries to pass through the area to get to his job, when the 2nd plane hits, and he realized it was something bigger than that. He says he as almost hit by a piece of falling debris. He made it home, and is here with me (The trains were still runng at that time).
I can see clearly the smoke and reduced skyline from my roof.
I have an aunt (also a Christian) who works at the Pentagon. I have not been able to make calls, so I couldn't even reach my parents in Manhattan. But my brother just IM'ed me. our aunt is OK.
Well, I guess with all the unrest in the world, I knew we couldn't expect to get by untouched forever. I know people think we were so great and "Christian", that's why God protected us for so long, but now we are losing His protection because of "judgement" of our "sins". But we were never innocent, as a nation. We wee always proud and sinful, but we happened to be strong, so we averted this for some time. But this shows that we are still frail, vulnerable humans, subject to the fallen state of the world. We were never invincible. Not even people who are truly on "God's side" are.
What annoys me the most is the people we're sure who did it. How they like to take innocent people out with them (not the govt. leaders who did he things that angered them.) Almost all of those people going early to Hell, and the people who did this smugly thinking they are going to Heaven, with the highest rewards! Imagine, people who think pleasing God means killing people, to spread your belief system, or get revenge. They claim to be the true religion the Bible (while claiming the written Bible is tampered, justifying everything they believe that contradicts it, such as Ishmael, not Isaac, being the child of promise, who God ordered Abraham to sacrifice). Yet their 'gospel' is pure self-preservation! They call us "the Great Satan", yet they compete with us for power, rather than waiting on God to bring down the evil system of the world. (I guess they feel they are God's soldiers, but like with any other legalist feeding upon works-righteousness, they have no concept that they have sins that offend God and bring them under His judgement as well. Their leaders are just as rich as ours. Then they call us "materialistic" or "earthly" becaue we are not willing todilike they are. But doyu know what motivates tham to die like this-- what one of their heavenly "rewards" is? 70 MAIDENS IN HEAVEN! Can you get any more "earthly" or "fleshy" than that? Imagine our Bible promising us something like that. We'd all be wiling to die fo Christ. (But what do women get?) I hate such hypocrisy, (just like when we called the USSR "materialist") This just shows that no matter how righteous man thinks he is, and how much on God's side he thinks he is, he is still a wicked self-serving sinner who will do anything to get his way, whenever the right buttons are pushed. But we'll all see when they are resurrected, what kind of "reward" they get. We argue with them on the Sonship of Christ, the Trinity, whether Allah is a name for the Biblical God or just an idol chosen out of a pantheon. But we really need to like as at no other time stand up in one accord and trumpet the true Gospel, (and not just as a tool to pacify them.)
