Not all Christendom. Just your state run church. Even Jesus tells us to do this in remembrance of him (the Lamb who was slain to save his people from their sins). If Jesus has been speaking literally, he would have cut off some of his actual flesh and bled out some of his actual blood and said "drink and eat up because it gives you magic power." So, why did your church pervert what Christ said? Simple. It was a way they could enslave the ignorant masses within the Roman Empire. Tell the masses that they had to take communion or they would die in sins and go to hell. Then, if the masses ever thought about revolting, withhold communion and frighten them into thinking they will die in their sins. Then, to add more fear, tell them that if their infants weren't baptized their children would go to hell. Use this fear tactic to enslave them. Next, don't let the masses read the Bible and give the mass in a language that was dead so they could never know they were being lied to.

Are you aware there are thousands upon thousands of married Catholic priests in the Eastern Rites of the Church? I'm not referring to the Eastern Orthodox Church. The only rite of the Catholic Church that has celibacy as a discipline is the Latin Rite.

Now as for the “One mediator between God and man” bit, that is absolutely true,
except I would use a capital “M” to indicate that Christ is THE Mediator, that we
put all our faith and trust in Him, but as we can observe so easily in this life, we
all prayer for each other, hence we are all (with a lower case “m”) mediators to
God (even Jesus) on each others’ behalf.
That doesn’t mean we on Earth or saints in Heaven are in any way Mediator as
Jesus is the Mediator to the Father.
